Didn't Know What To Expect...

Saw the trailer but I wasn't familiar with the television show therefore I wasn't sure I would like this. Since I initially caught it on rental, I gave it a chance and I enjoyed it. Seeing the different dynamics of Henry Cavill's and Armie Hammer's characters were enjoyable. I really didn't expect the connection b/t Hammer's character and Alicia Vikander's character. There's a scene I call the love or like/hate scene that I really enjoyed between them and that was good enough for me to buy the film. Definitely give it a chance. Did I mention that the fashion style is also great!

My wife and I went and saw this in the theater, not really knowing what to expect. The TV show was popular a little before our time, so we weren't really sure who the characters were or what the premise of the movie was, other than that it was a spy movie. I found it a little more lighthearted than a 007 film with some good elements of humor. I have to say this movie was well done. We enjoyed it immensely enough to own it on Blu Ray, and now we're trying to find an internet service where we can watch the re-runs of the TV show. Also, before seeing this I had not known who Alicia Vikander is, and after seeing this I must say she is a very talented up and coming actress. She was wonderful in this movie.

I really enjoyed the TV series. I appreciate the fact that the movie is set during that historic period instead of moving it into modern day. Since the series never explained how they came together, this is a plausible back-story. . . the only problem with this direction was the ending reflecting a four-person operation instead of a large international force.
Truly T.H.R.U.S.H. like villainess.
Not too sure about the casting Superman and the Lone Ranger, but it was a fun movie.

To be candid, I have loved Guy Ritchie films for nearly 20 years now, and if you feel the same, will also love The Man From U.N.C.L.E. the dialogue and character interactions are a joy, and the setting (locations and time period) and sound design are excellent as well.
This is a movie that doesn't take itself too seriously, much like an older Bond film. If you're looking for something fun, entertaining, and filled with witty repartees, I can't recommends this film highly enough.

This is a fun movie to watch. It's a Guy Ritchie film: so you know it's fast paced and likes to have fun with itself. It has nods to the TV series on which the characters are based: you have Napoleon Solo, Illya Kuriyakin and Mr. Waverly. From there you have all new characters who populate the tongue in cheek spoof on James Bond. Alicia Vikander is here to add glamour, and Armie Hammer and Henry Cavill do a nice job of playing the Russian spy vs American spy. I found this movie to be very funny in parts, and bears several viewings to catch all the details.

I remember watching the TV show in the 'sixties (it started out in black and white - anyone else remember that?) and enjoyed it. But, they never really explored how Solo and Kuryakin first met... If you remember the 'sixties glamour and glitz, this is a fun movie - Guy Ritchie did a good job with the script he was given, and the leading men (Cavill and Hammer) played the characters well. If they create a sequel that's a little tighter, it could be another franchise...

Hollywood's been trying to bring this classic TV series to the cinema for years! Many directors, like Quinton Tarrentino, have all failed.
However, that's a great thing because they waited for the right director - Guy Ritchie. He works the same magic here as he did with the RDJ Sherlock Holmes series.
The story is excellent, not slavishly devoted to the source materials, yet still has that same cool swagger. The casting is spot-on!
In short, this isn't Bond or Bourne...and that's a good thing. It's not supposed to be! It's UNCLE!

I loved the old Man from Uncle TV show and I loved this movie even more! They explained how Illya (Russian) and Napoleon (American) started working together during the Cold War. The characters were perfect and the story amazing - it all came together and even the ending was great. I'm hoping for a sequel soon. The original TV series was a little ( okay, a lot) silly at times. This movie had a lot of humorous moments, but the characters and the movie plot were anything but silly. This is a great movie!

Spouse wanted me to repurchase this due to he wasn't aware that I had returned the first copy @ movies release date. I rented the DVD the same day I bought it so that I may see if it was good. However, it was late when we watched it initially and the parts I did see I didn't think I really got into it. But I have to say, after a good nights rest, weeks later and re watching it I gained a new insight. I was impressed.

A very good spy film that harkens back to old school espionage films from the 60s and 70s. Performances are very nuanced, especially from Alicia Vikander, who wowed in 2015's Ex Machina. The only downside, at least from my perspective, is that the digital copy only corresponds to Ultraviolet, and many Blu-ray/DVD combos include an iTunes compatible code. All in all, though, I am very satisfied with my purchase.

They did a great job of bringing the time period back to life for the characters to jump around in. All of the preformances are up to par for what I wanted and I loved the bantor / humor between all of the main characters.
Now I did watch the tv series in the past before seeing this but even just meeting the characters and not having that backstory should make this any less fun. You see the characters really grow as the movie goes on and get just bits of their past. Might explore that some in future chapters.

While lacking in a truly intimidating villain and any of Guy Ritchie's signature visual stylings while also slightly thin on action, The Man From UNCLE succeeds largely on the chemistry of its three leads, with Henry Cavill and Armie Hammer matching testosterone with Alicia Vikander more than capably bouncing between them. Surprisingly Tarantino-ish in its pacing, dialogue, and use of stylized fonts in its subtitles.

As one who grew up in the 60's watching the Original TV Show, I was interested to see how it came out. In summary: THEY GOT IT RIGHT! from the sets, props, costumes, all the way down to even the dialogue and "attitude", the makers of this movie SUCCESSFULLY captured "the 60's" in all its' past glory. It would've been nice if David McCallum (the original "Illya Kuriakin") could have had a small cameo. I'm looking forward to the sequel, which was obviously "hinted at" in the closing credits.

Guy Ritchie does a great job of resurrecting the timeless 60's era television series. Well cast with Hugh Grant playing a cameo role. This is really the action packed setup for what could be the beginning of a franchise or series of movies based on the U.N.C.L.E. theme.
Excellent recreation of Cold War friction with spot on period wardrobe, props, and cars!
Fun and family friendly.

This is based on one of my favorite tv shows and I very much enjoyed the remake. Henry Cavill makes a good Napoleon Solo and seems to occasionally channel Robert Vaughn (the TV Napoleon Solo). My only disappointment was they did not use the original theme music anywhere, not even during the credits but maybe they could not get the rights so no big deal as it did not affect my enjoyment of the movie.

Was a great throw back to the 60s spy movies. The lead actors fit the part so well and the creators used costume, location and story to make you both feel the era, yet it felt contemporary as well. It was a story full of action and great humor as the male leads from different countries and view points were at odds with each other, but begin to build a friendship there as well. Vikander was both hilarious and entrancing also, so it is definitely a movie I will watch more than once.

I never seen the original show the movie was based on and the only thing I really recalled of the show was that the main character was Napoleon Solo so needless to say, I more or less going into the movie knowing next to nothing. With that said, I was pleasantly surprised with how good the movie ended up being. Plenty of action and a nice dose of humor made this movie an entertaining watch!

I was a big fan of The Man From U.N.C.L.E. when I was a kid and I was excited when I heard that they were making it into a movie. Of course when you are used to one set of actors playing characters on a show, it's a little difficult to accept other actors in those roles (like the revamped Star Trek, Wild Wild West, etc.). All in all it was a good film and I enjoyed all the extras as well.
