It's rare for a big movie studio to trust the future of a potential blockbuster franchise to a brand-new director. You'd imagine that there would be just too much at stake when it came to translating James Dashner's series of best-selling dystopian novels to the silver screen. But it's easy to see why Wes Ball got the job - with this one film, he graduates from short films to blockbuster movies with flair to spare. Indeed, The Maze Runner is such a cool, confident and thrilling blend of action beats and character work that it's hard to believe Ball has never before commandeered a full-length feature film. It's true that the narrative gets a little away from him by the end, making less sense as more secrets are revealed. But this is more a problem with the source material than Ball's own skills as a director.

The film is very-well paced, and has an understandable hero. He makes mistakes, but unlike his complacent friends, Thomas is determined to leave the Glade they are trapped in. The film throws around ideas of logical versus morals, and safety versus truth. The only reason it isn't five stars is because I heard that there are certain twists in the book series that requires more character time not seen in the movie in order to feel the emotional impact. However, since this is only the first movie, and because if one wanted the book, one should read it (as said by Neil Gaiman), we have yet too see what the following installments have in store. I am eager to see the sequel in fall, and I recommend this movie to anyone who wants action as well as a deep story.

This movie makes me think of Fringe, lost, with just a little bit of Jurassic Park and just a little bit of Call of Duty 4 Video game - depends on how you look at. I was waiting for the big T Rex to jump out lol. I like this movie up wished they had a true ending. Can you say sequel - lol. Also this movie could of shaved off about 30 to 40 minutes and still gave us the whole movie. In it to win I will go see the sequel hope they give us something more cooler than cheap looking spiders with scorpion tales, and boys on the verge of being me with secret pent up feeling towards one another. They throw a girl into the mix three years of what. She should of been in real trouble, and I'm not talking about from the spiders with tails.

"The Maze Runner" was overall a good movie, it wasn't great, but it was good, and, in my opinion, worth buying. There are some differences between the book and the movie, but because the movie was well made these differences can be overlooked, and the slightly altered story can still be enjoyed. "The Maze Runner" is an action packed film that's enjoyable for adults and teens alike. However, it is not an ideal family movie as it might scare young children. In short I would recommend "The Maze Runner" to anyone who enjoyed the books, or just wants to watch a good destopian thriller.

After I read The Maze Runner book, I just knew I had to see the movie and have a Blu-Ray copy that I could watch at any time. No regrets! This movie is awesome!!! Very little was changed from the book, which is always a great thing when you find a book so good that you can't put it down. The cast in this movie played their parts so well. The casting was definitely perfect. Everyone fit their roles perfectly. I don't like to write reviews that might be a spoiler for anyone so I'll keep this simple. This is a movie I am so glad to own on BluRay because it is definitely worth watching again and again in flawless Blu-Ray quality.

Good, tense story. Got this before I saw the movie and glad I did. The movie didn't quite do it justice. The book seemed complete and the sequels didn't seem too interesting, but I eventually bought the next books after reading some reviews about them. Glad I did. The Maze Runner is a strong start to an exciting series. I didn't expect the ending to this book, but then this story is so unusual that the usual predictions for this type of story didn't work. If you've seen the movie, you should get the book. There is much more to the story than in the movie.

Good movie - action, suspense, unexpected ending with a cliffhanger for the next chapter. BUT, the Blu-ray disk wouldn't play in my Sony BD player! At first, I thought it was a defective disk, but it played perfectly in a Samsung BD player. Even though my Sony BD player has the latest firmware, this disk is the only one that won't play and neither Sony nor 20th Century-Fox can or will provide an answer as to why. So, beware the BD version if you have a Sony BD player!

This movie is a cryptic piece of suspenseful work. I'm not a reader so I didn't go in with any strong expectations. Most of the movie will have you asking the question why? It answers some things but leaves most of it up to the viewer to answer for themselves. Some parts of the movie reminded me of Lord of the Flies. The only thing I felt wasn't fleshed out well was the arrival female in the movie which felt more like a random diversion than something that drove the plot forward in a meaningful way. - Errantsquire

I enjoyed this movie. I didn't have expectations, but enough people told me that they enjoyed the movie, for me to take a chance. I like the casting, the location was Unique to this world and the look was right for the subject. The visual effects were handled very well. I don't know the budget, but nothing feels incomplete or rushed through. I've only had experience seeing only two of the actors but the others didn't disappoint. it's good to get fresh new talent out there

As expected from the reciews this was a good movie, my children have blue ray i am stuck in dvd so having both and digital allows me to have a copy for the entire family and when i am on the computer thanks best buy for price matching this item with Targets sale. PS: Walmart is still my favorite black friday place, because people wait for weeks to get to BB, so why don't you have a second black friday during the Christmas break, walmart created the first black friday now its your turn to invent black friday too. good luck

I will begin with: I have not read the books. As a result, my impression of the movie are not impacted by considerations like "how closely did it follow the book" or "did they leave things out/add things". I found the movie fun to watch and engaging. In some ways, it was like a post-apocalyptic version of The Lord of the Flies. Visual effects were good, and I didn't have any complaints about the acting, which is an area I often struggle with in adaptations like this. I am already looking forward to the next installment.

This was a good family film, appropriate for pre-teens and older. My 12 year old daughter has read the series so we had high hopes for the film. It was a good solid film with plenty of action and drama. Purists beware - It is NOT a carbon copy of the book so be prepared for some changes. However, having not read the books myself, I can say I enjoyed the film and look forward to probable sequels. My daughter enjoyed the film as well. It reminds me of Hunger Games and Lord of the Flies combined. Enjoy.
