I already knew I loved the movie from seeing it at the theater. What I really liked was the quality of the Blu-Ray disc and the audio reproduction (sound effects especially) were awesome. Too bad it wasn't released on 4K but this is still really good!!

Good movie, given you didn't read the book.

Here is another attempt and turning a Young Adult (YA) novel into a successful brand. However, this was not near as successful as that of other YA novels (Harry Potter, Twilight, Divergent etc.). If you've never read the book then it can be very enjoyable, but probably limited to the younger generations due to the use of "teenage angst". It has some decent actor/actresses involved with the project, but they can only carry it so far. There's a little bit of action thrown in, but I think there was more warranted than what we received. If your a fan of the book.... well you might want to pass. Not that it doesn't get some of the things right, they just probably change things for the worse in this case. The book is much better than this attempt (I'd say it's true for the follow up that they are making for television as well, but that's a different time and place). It stinks that they didn't do better, because they could have made a good run of movies, granted that they had a better direction and delivery on movie 1. Recommendation: Have NOT Read the book: worth a watch. It's a fun stand alone movie that can be enjoyable. Just don't think too much into it. HAVE read the book: you may not want to bother, because if your like me you will mentally (or maybe verbally) pick the movie apart from what all you know from the source material.

The movie arrived earlier than anticipated, and it was in perfect condition; no marks from being banged around during shipping. Thank you, Best Buy! My issue lies with the plot of the movie, not something Best Buy can fix. If you've read the books, then you know they left out important information in some areas, and gave away secrets that weren't supposed to come out til later in the series in others. They should have listened more to Cassandra Clare, I believe. It would have made her fans a lot happier to see things play out more like the books. If you've read the books, be prepared to be slightly disappointed. If you haven't, you'll enjoy it more. Still a good movie. Great visual effects, great acting, great plot...just poor interpretation on the part of the screenwriter.

A hilariously messy mishmash of YA fantasy tropes.

The Mortal Instruments, based upon a young adult book series, could more aptly be named "Young Adult: The Movie." The plot is vapid and full of tropes and concepts from just about every other popular fantasy property out there; don't go into it thinking it's going to be any sort of revelation for the genre. However, the film is well-casted, the actors work really well off of one another, and despite the lack of depth, it's very entertaining. It's great if you're into b-movies.

I really liked the movie. The special effects were good, but not over the top. The story had a good balance of love story and action scenes. My only issues is I think if the story would have been better if they would made this a 2 part movie vice trying to get everything in 2+ hours. Considering it's a book series, hopefully a sequel will follow to fill in some of the blanks.

If you can overlook the fact that it is different from the book (and get past Jase's hair) and watch it for enjoyment purposes without any preconceived notions... It is quite good. It is a coming of age story about a girl who's not only learning where she really comes from but finding out who she is, and falling in love for the first time. Yes, it all happens in a world of half-angels who hunt demons, vampires, werewolves, warlocks, etc. but still!

Enjoyable movie and story; if you're looking for it to be exactly like the book/series, you'll be disappointed but if you want some entertainment then you won't be disappointed. If you're not familiar with the books, then this is a good intro to see if you'd be interested in reading them.

Really liked this movie. Only thing I didn't like was the actor that played Valentine. I just wish they would continue putting movies out for the rest of the books! But I don't think they plan on it since it didn't get great reviews. If you enjoyed the book you will enjoy the movie though!

I personally really liked this movie. This was to be a series of movies based on the books so ending left you wondering. This did not do as well as expected so instead of making the remander of the movies this was turned into a 5th show "shadowhunters" I do really like the show.

I enjoyed the casting of characters. Jamie Campbell Bower and Lilly Collins were great as the lead characters, Jace and Clary. The sets and costume were really exceptional and Johnathan Rhys Meyers really brought intensity to the last third of the movie. Overall it was a moving love story amidst the backdrop of Angels and Demons. No profanity or inappropriate scenes, so young Tweens and up will enjoy.

I love the action in the movie and kept me in suspense. There is love and some sadness when the lovers find out that they cannot go out anymore because of what the main vilian told them. I wanted the movie to continue. It is a little different from the books but it was good.

For a movie made from a teen book series I thought it was entertaining. I must have if I bought it! Clary is way less annoying than Bella but not nearly as great as Katniss. Jace is hot and I love Simon! I hope they make the others into films!

I enjoyed this movie which had warriors and demons and good FX. What more can you ask for. Yes, a Blu Ray combo pack with a Blu Ray and a DVD and a Digital Copy and the price was just right. Get some popcorn and enjoy.

I really enjoyed the Mortal Instruments City of Bones, the plot was great, new and different. I am hoping for a sequel as we all want to know if they are really brother or sister. I personally think not, but who knows what movie writers have in mind. I just hope number 2 will be coming out sometime this year or at the latest next summer.

I like to read the books before I watch the movies too see how close they are, there are always details left out but this I've seemed to miss some key things. If I had not read the books I probably would have given a 5 star review.

It has a very good storyline and potential to be great as they make more, but I think they could have picked better actors for the lead roles. But overall the movie was pretty good and I will see others if they are made
