I'll admit, I was worried when reviews came in that this game was bad. But I took the plunge and wanted to play it anyways. Glad I did. Excellent cinematic experience from start to finish. Overall, it's on the shorter side in length, but it's filled with action sequences that are memorable. Story is good, weapons are good, graphics are incredible. Definitely recommend this game.

Goood But Short

The game is very short but I found it to be a great cinematic experience with incredible graphics and attention to detail. It is a great game to show off the PS4's graphical ability. I felt the game universe was very interesting but unfortunately it was largely on rails with little exploration possible. The action was good but oddly there was not a lot involving the main nemesis the werewolves. That said, the battles with the the werewolves were tense as you felt you were indeed battling a much stronger and dangerous enemy. This is one of those games where you feel like your playing a movie but with some "normal" game action sequences mixed in. I was able to beat it in 6 or 7 hours taking my time. I would recommend a purchase at a discount with a trade in after beating it as it does not have much replay-ability.

This game has great graphics, and great voice-acting. I don't know if I want more of the story, the narrative in this game is slow, but will serve as a great intro to a sequel should the developers get the chance. Many improvements can be made to the gameplay, but as a total package, I enjoyed plodding through the game. More variety in weapons would also be welcome.

One of the best looking games to ever grace a console has an interesting, well written and well acted story. Third-person game play is average, reminiscent of "Gears of War" but lacks originality or new ideas. Relies too heavily on QuickTime style events throughout the game. All in all I enjoyed the game, however maybe best purchased once it's price has dropped.

I enjoyed playing 1886. It has gorgeous visuals, great gunplay, and a good story. I just feel that for that for the length of the game the price should be lowered . I beat it on hard in about 7-8 hours. I had to retry a few fights multiple times so the game would have been shorter like 5-6 hours. Pick this up when its like $30-$40 and you won't be disappointed.

When I saw the teaser for The Order 1886 I was immediately drawn in. I love steampunk. I love alternate history games. I love werewolves (as long as they aren't the angsty, emo teen variety). It seemed like this game was made for me so I pre-ordered it and excitedly shredded open the plastic wrap on release day.
For a shorter game, I frequently found myself saying "hurry it up already!". That was the first thing that struck me in the intro. The next thing I noticed was how slow Sir Galahad walks in certain sequences. As soon as I was done with the intro I tried to sprint (since I learned how to sprint during the intro) and it forced me to keep walking until it gave me another hint on how to sprint. It's kind of hard not to feel annoyed by how restrictive the game is at times. You can't draw or aim your weapon unless enemies are about to attack you. You can't run unless you are in an area where it is allowed. Etc.
I finally got to draw my weapon and was excited to get in to some action. In your first fight, every baddie is the same exact character model. It is oddly distracting given the wonderful attention to detail in other aspects of the level design. Next up there was a section where somebody shoots through a closed door at Sir Galahad and I attempted to fire back at them. My bullets didn't even make marks in the door. Apparently they disappeared. The opening chapter really doesn't do much to impress, but, the game luckily gets (a little) better from there.
The graphics and character models truly are great. There are a few sections (like when you repel on to the airship) where the game looked so good I was shocked that it was rendering in real-time. Though the expressions on the characters' faces are monotonous and rarely convey any emotions, movement is well done and natural. There is a smoke/haze over the entire game that, mixed with the blurring effects to make it look like film left me squinting at my TV a lot. I have a 1080p TV and I don't like the black bars at the top and bottom of the screen because there is a ton of wasted real-estate. The decision to go with 2.40:1 aspect ratio was obviously to make the game more cinematic and your results may vary depending on your tastes.
When you pick up audio bits (journals, etc.) you have to go in to your archive to play them. The problem is: you can read them faster than it takes the voice actors to read them and they stop as soon as you exit the archive screen so the audio is pointless. It seems sub-par that they don't automatically play while you are playing the game as soon as you pick them up (not unlike Diablo 3).
The stealth aspect of The Order seems like an afterthought and it doesn't really fit (I mean, you are a Knight; why would you sneak around??). Luckily, there aren't too many stealth sequences. There are also a few sections where you are supposed to "get to x location unnoticed" and the characters do things like walk in to a "crowd" of 15 people wearing uniforms only to then say "we've been spotted". Well, yeah. That's what happens when you stand in broad daylight wearing an obvious uniform in a crowd of only 15 loosely-spaced people.
When you fight werewolves the general formula is: they run at you and you shoot them. When they get close, you can press "x" to dodge their attack or they attack you and retreat only to run at you again from the same direction. Repeat until they are wounded and you press triangle to finish them. It's not a very satisfying experience and I found myself getting through the fights with werewolves to get to the more enjoyable battles with humans. Boss battles consist mostly of QTEs.
There are some points where, if you die, you have to replay the whole scene even though you made it past a wave of enemies or another event that would have been a logical checkpoint in most other games. The stealth sections where this is true were especially aggravating. Sneak around, dispatch some enemies, get spotted by the final enemy, inexplicably die instantaneously, repeat the whole thing from the beginning. In-game deaths are also kind of an odd experience. The screen just goes black. The first couple times it happened I thought I had made it to a custcene or something.
The lock-picking mechanism in this game is a highlight for me. It is fun and it showcases the awesome vibration capable with the DualShock 4.
The plot is pretty average. It starts with a flash-forward (somebody has played the Uncharted series...) and you will smell every twist from a mile away, but, it's not horrible. For a game with such emphasis on being cinematic the plot should be a lot more compelling.
So, should you buy this game? As much as I hate to say it and reinforce some of the sentiments in the 1-star reviews by obvious fanboys, $29.99 or lower seems like the "right" price point to me and it's not that because the game is short and linear. There's just not a lot here and the gameplay isn't fun enough for me to want to replay any of the chapters. But, it's still a semi-enjoyable experience and the eye-candy is impressive. Plus, it's an easy plat (if you care about trophies). Don't trust any 1 or 5-star reviews. This game is not a 1-star game by any metric, nor is it a 5-star game by any metric. It is solidly middle-of-the-road.

Excellent graphics & story, limited replayability

The graphics are excellent on this PS4 game. I don't want to spoil anything, but I knew very little about the story line when I got the game on sale. Basically, you will be fighting some monsters in some bad people. There are other parts of the story that open up to some interesting fictional historical references that I was not expecting and I found to be a pleasant surprise. I don't want to spoil any details here...
However, the only real downside is the fact there is very little replayability with this game. There is no online component, and nothing to really make you want to play it again. Also, do not waste your time scavenging for there is very little replayability with this game. There is no online component, and nothing to really make you want to play it again. Also, do not waste your time scavenging for what a few random artifacts you can find, as they do not seem to unlock anything nor do they help in anyway with your progress in the game. It felt like a waste of time.
But overall, I did enjoy playing the game and found it very interesting and fun. I would just recommend renting it or something.

The game has the best graphics out there. The story in refreshingly new, and the action is amazing when it gets going. The game feels like you're playing a movie. Sometimes the controls feel a bit tight, and bound like there should be more freedom in movement.

I am thoroughly enjoying my play through of The Order. I'm really at a loss as to why this game has been criticized so harshly. Is the game without its flaws? The short answer is no. Are the flaws as bad as they've been made out to be? I would again have to go with no. I've been reading about the perceived lack of value this game has. I for one, value single player experiences and enjoy games with a good story. So for me, this game has lots of value. Some may say that the lack of co op or multiplayer severely hamper it's replay-ability. I agree with that wholeheartedly. My only issue with that is, the developers never once claimed that this game would have either of those things. So the game being knocked for not having it seems ridiculous. There are plenty of games that offer that experience if that's what you're looking for. There should also be a space allowed for games that want to focus on delivering a cinematic single player experience as well. Not quite sure why it seems that they can no longer coexist. I'm almost finished with my 1st play through and can't want to go through it again.

I strongly believe if this game had been released when the Playstation 4 had come out, things would have gone very differently.
On the positive side, the game is truly beautiful, with seamless transitions from cut scene to game play. Throw in some interesting weapons and some cool atmospheric settings and you have what good.
As many have said, the game play gets too repetitive, with the same type of enemy and cover, shoot, cover, shoot mechanic. Plus the ending leaves much to be desired. Plus no new game plus or any other reason to play through again.
Having said that, if you plan to pick this up, wait for a price drop. It's worth at least one play through, just to show the promise of what the PS4 is capable of.

Dont believe the negative reviews on this game and play it yourself! I bought this game at a great sale price and if you can find it cheap its worth it. I wouldnt spend full price on the game because its short and linear. But its an interactive movie with amazing graphics and a great story made for cinema!

The Order has compelling characters, a good story line, and nice graphics. Smooth game play and challenging monster/boss sequences. As someone that mostly plays open world games (AC, Far Cry), this feels a little limited but I still enjoy it. If you like anything steampunk or monsters, you'll love it.

A lot has been said about The Order's lenght already. While shortness is not a negative to a guy with limited time who likes to finish games, the one thing that bothered me more was the lack of meaningful things to do in that beautiful world. The Order looks great, and it also plays great, but it feels very limited and doesn't offer many possibilities. The premise is amazing and unfortunately the game doesn't quite live up to it, but the mechanics are solid enough that I'm left hoping they give it another shot.

If you are someone who enjoys single player games that tells a story (like the Last Of Us campaign) then you will love this game. The story isn't the best but it's a lot better than most video game storylines and kept me entertained.
Some have complained about the short length of time it takes to play a game. Personally, I don't care for games that are long "just to be long". I thought the game was an appropriate length of time for what it is.
The graphics are killer. Definitely one of the best next gen games to date. The game fluidly moves from scene to scene and the closeups on the characters faces contain great detail. Except for the FPS action and cutscenes, there is a lot of QTE or quick time events, similar to games like the Walking Dead. For me that's the only downside to this game.
I look forward to the sequel.

If you're looking for a long action packed game look elsewhere, this game is short but the visuals are beautiful. The pacing is pretty slow at times and way too many cut scenes, game play very similar to gears of wars which is fine with me. The game is still enjoyable but should have been longer.

The Order is an amazing looking game. In fact, it is one of the best looking, true next-gen games out. It plays well, has great voice acting, and looks incredible by realtime standards. However, once you look past the graphics, you're essentially left with a game that has more cut-scenes than actual gameplay, and very little enemy variety. The werewolves in the beginning of the game look very similar to the final boss.
Couple this with the fact that the game has no co-op or multiplayer, can be beaten in a single sitting, and you have a game that will not be worth $60 for most people. I'd recommend the game at a discounted price or as a rental.

The graphics in the game are insane. If you're looking for a great cinematic game, this is for you! Only problem is that there is not much actual game play. It reminds me of a game like Heavy Rain, where it is more video than actual game play. Great story and great graphics though!

This game is designed to blend an entire chapter's game play with the cut-scenes to give it a movie-like feel. This was RaD's goal, they've mentioned it in the past. And with that in mind they did an amazing job.
No. This is not an open-world game. It's not 40 hours long. This game deserves to be in a genre that's only starting to develop: interactive experience, I like to call it.
It's smooth sailing one way through, much like how it feels to sit in a theater or in front of a TV show on a Netflix binge.
The Order 1886 has fantastic game play segments, awe inspiring music, a deep story, great acting, and phenomenal graphics and mechanics.
Welcome to the new world of Interactive Experiences, where film and games make sweet love to our imaginations.

Picture yourself standing in the center of a favorite candy store only to discover your feet are shackled to the floor and you are wearing a straightjacket. This describes the frustration with The Order. There is so much gorgeous eye candy and with it's great story, so many avenues of possibility to explore--if only you weren't stuck in a narrow, predetermined path with almost no freedom.
So, great graphics/story spoiled by gameplay so restrictive only the narrowing of the vertical sight lines (letterbox format) could make it more confining. Many may argue it's too short for $60. Poor use of the many new features of the PS4 controller.
