Watched this when I was a kid, glad to have it on Blu-ray.
Anything with Sophia Loren in it, I'm in.
No CGI, exciting and well done.

An unjustly neglected, intelligent spectacle

With every frame looking like it was painted by Goya, the music sounding as if it were written by De Falls (it was composed by George Antheil), The Pride and The Passion is an intelligent spectacle. Marred, perhaps by an inevitably episodic structure, it nevertheless boasts serious, committed performances by Frank Sinatra, Cary Grant and Sophia Loren. This is quintessential Spain and perhaps the best film directed by Stanley Kramer (otherwise more notable as a producer). The Napoleonic wars in Spain, now lost to history, were nonetheless of crucial significance to millions - and you see those millions - thousands, anyway - and no CGI!!
