This review will focus more on the packaging than the movie. Just know that the movie itself is 5 stars — a classic with humor, gore and great performances. The steelbook is part of a Dia de los Muertos themed wave from MGM for Halloween 2018. It’s an ambitious concept that lends itself to very colorful designs. Of the 12 or so tiles, the RotLD steel is one of the few successful realizations of the design concept. We see a striking image of a single zombie with the title artfully worked into the creature’s mandible and throat. It’s not overly done and you don’t lose the identity of the movie to the design concept and vice versa. If you’re lucky like I was, you’ll find this on the shelf without any dings, dents or spine slashes caused by boxcutters that can do often plague steelbook releases. I highly recommend this movie, and this steelbook design!

This is one of the true classics out of the 80's horror genre that still holds up today. If you love zombies and comedy, this is your flick. This edition is the one that we ROTLD fans have been waiting for! The extra's are great, especially the old trailers that really take me back to that time in my teens. The picture is great and the sound is awesome, especially when on surround. That soundtrack was the best (they had to insert one song to replace another due to copyright's I guess ) The tar man zombie ia "alive" and well in this edition, and this is a must buy for zombie fans !

This film has never looked better, and it's still as fun as ever to watch. Scream Factory has gone all out and produced a fabulous edition of this 1985 classic with a plethora of extras including "More Brains: A Return to the Living Dead - The Definitive Documentary," previously sold as a stand alone disc. Other stand out special features are "Horror's Hallowed Grounds," where Sean Clark revisits some of the filming locations, and "Party Time: The Music Of The Return Of The Living Dead" which covers all of the excellent songs that were used in the film.

This movie has everything a zombie film can give you, zombies, humor and outrageous fun! I loved this movie when it first hit theaters and bluray is a better movie experience to say the least! They give you a cool cover art for your bluray case that is so cool. At this to your 80s cult film collection, you'll enjoy 80s fun!

    Great Zombie Movie

I really enjoyed this movie, the zombies can real move. I mean these zombies are really running at the people in this movie, plus this is the movie that coined the phrase, "BRAINS!" in a zombie movie. And then there is TAR MAN, he freaks the heck out of me, but makes the movie that much greater. The acting was okay for the most part, but it is the zombies you really want to watch, all different types and sizes ( there is an actual midget zombie, no other zombie movie that I have seen ever had a midget zombie). I would recommend this movie, to those who enjoy a great zombie movie, it would have been a 5/5 but like I said the acting isn't the greatest. But this movie is really enjoyable.

This is my all time favorite zombie movie. It's funny, sexy and is scary. I highly recommend this movie to any horror or zombie fan. This is one of those rare horror movies that has everything going for it; punks, zombies, the Tarman and many memorable lines. The fact the main character is portrayed by the same actor that played Tommy Jarvis from Friday the 13th is a nice added bonus.

Brains, Blood, & Boobs: Essential Horror/Comedy

There is no question that George Romero has the zombie market cornered. However, when it comes to zombie horror/comedy, Dan O'Bannon's The Return of the Living Dead can't be beat. It contains the perfect mix of likable characters in comedic circumstances and horrific situations. The Video and Audio on this disc are excellent and it contains plenty of Extras. BRAINS!!!

This is one of those movies that’s so saturated in its time that’s its great. Not to mention, the blend between comedy and horror is near perfect. And we have to also talk about the practical effects which always a welcome sight to see. Also, as always, Shout Factory as out a great deal of special features that are always great to watch.

A Classic of the Living Dead!

Dan O'Bannon's writing pedigree is much longer than his director's filmography (ALIEN, DEAD & BURIED, HEAVY METAL, etc), but this golden nugget of 80s cinema proves his genius. Based on a book written as the original sequel to George Romero's classic NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD, ROTLD has a killer soundtrack, great cast, dynamite lines & perfectly grotesque special FX. A must-see!

Best Blu-Ray of this zombie classic!

The initial answer is YES...this is worth the upgrade for those who have purchased previous Blu-Ray's of Dan O'Bannon's zombie classic. There is so much on this set including a rare work-print version of the film, a feature length documentary and so much more....not enough space to do it justice here. Suffice it to say Return of The Living Dead fans NEED this!

remember seeing this movie in the 80s--- great zombie movie funny and gory had it on dvd - bought it on blu ray to get a better picture slipcover plus reversible artwork cult movie from 1985 spawned many sequels most of them not worthy of this classic( maybe except part III) looks like - rigormortis is setting in *_*

Unlike Romero’s half of the LIVING DEAD franchise, which is, well, dead serious about its social commentary (and very good at it to boot), the half that Dan O’Bannon got to work with in this film heads straight for the satirical end of the spectrum and nails it. Gross, sloppy, sometimes genuinely scary, and hilarious. But don’t expect to sympathize with many of the characters—most of them get what’s coming to them!

This movie if you ask me was the first great zombie movie. Thats saying alot even though this film came out over 30 years ago. Rather you like horror or not you have to watch this one. This by far the greatest zombie movie of all time it's not even close. You laugh, jump, and scream it's make you do all those things.

I've not seen this movie look this good since first seeing it in the theaters back when I was a teenager, but as we all know, there are some soundtrack issues (ironically, like have plagued one of my favorite TV shows, W.K.R.P. in Cincinnati as well). Some of the original tunes simply weren't re-licensable, but there isn't much that the studio can do about that. It's still enjoyable and one of the best horror movies of the 80s, and at the great price I paid at Best Buy, I was glad to get to enjoy an old favorite again.
