Not like the short story at all

It was a cute movie for a Saturday night at home. I read the original short story that this movie's title is based upon but this movie is nothing like the short story. In the story, Walter is a middle aged man with a nagging wife. He is plagued by extreme low self-esteem and spends his time day dreaming of being someone else with clout and professional respect. It is a sad little story of how a man dreams of being more than he is but is belittled by his wife. This Hollywood variety is, of course, a sweetened version with a happy ending and lots of travel scenes. The original has no photographer friend, no girlfriend to hook up with at the end and no downtown high-rise job. The character's name, the movie title and the fact that the main character is a day dreamer who is belittled by another are the only common elements to the short story. It was still a cute movie that I would recommend as a rainy Sunday or Saturday night home movie night.

    Ben Stiller at his best.

The movie is beautifully done. The shots on location in some of the most remote areas on the planet are breathtaking in blu-ray. It is a tale of a man who is uncomfortable in his own skin and has done the same things every single day. Finally one day he snaps out of his own imagination and starts living. Something we all should do. The movie has action, suspense, drama, and comedy.

This just might be Ben Stiller's best movie by far. This movie has everything comedy, romance, action, excitement & some tender moments as well. With beautifully shot scenes from all over the world, Ben really out did himself on this one. I love this movie and can't get enough of it. He should have won an Academy Award for his role in it. BTW Sean Penn is hilarious!

I got this film since I didn't feel like violence or craziness - it was a cool calm film with comedic moments mixed with genuine emotion. It's good for those that like to day dream and want to escape reality for a bit - great ending too that binds the whole film together - good watch if you want a break from the typical action violence.

I was a big fan of the old Danny Kaye version of "The Secret Life of Walter Mitty" and was a little reluctant to even see this film. However, I did buckle and now feel it's bound to become something of a cult classic. Not just a feel-good movie, it has a time stamp on it for our age and should be popular for a long time to come. Such a beautifully crafted movie!

Missed this movie when it came out in the theatre. Just recently bought it when it was on sale. Was a little slow when Ben Stiller (Walter) was having a mental flash, so would have to stop & wonder if he was seeing stuff in real life, or a fantasy, otherwise-I felt it was a good adventure/fantasy movie. Good for adults, a little slow for the kids.

This was a truly pleasant surprise! I bought The Secret Life of Walter Mitty to watch with my family and everyone of us enjoyed it in our own way. Filled with action, humor, and beautiful scenery. Ben Stiller has come a long way since directing Reality Bites all those years ago. This was a surprisingly thoughtful and well done film!

This movie was a bit of a sleeper at the box office, but is one of my favorites. It's one of those rare movies that is both funny and touching. The soundtrack is great. (I bought it too.) It will certainly resonate with anyone going through a midlife crisis who's weary of the rat race and longs for adventure. Fantastic cast. Watch it!

Secret Life of Walter Mitty Grows on You

This movie doesn't grab you the way you might be used to -- it sneaks up on you. Images and sequences get stuck in your mind. The musical score is fantastic, especially as you enter the trailing credits. Each character picks up a special consideration from Walter's workmate to the drunk pilot to Sean Penn (and all the rest) -- as they each became etched in my mind.

    Not quite the book, but...

Not quite the book, but a great adaptation of it. The book was written when most of the items/stuff used in this movie were not invented. However, the makers of the movie do a wonderful job of putting the twist of the modern in a not so modern book. Although the story line is somewhat different (and that is a good thing), the movie flows really well throughout. Enjoy it.

    Daydreaming

This is a love/hate sort of movie. There are so many parts of it that I love and relate to but sometimes the dream sequences can be sort of cheesy. The parts I love override any of the cheezyness I feel about the dream sequences. The soundtrack is great. Love me some Jose Gonzalez and you get the video for "Stay Alive" in the bonus features.

This was a great movie filled with excitement and intrigue. At first I thought it would be simply about a guy who daydreams about things he wishes he could do, but I didn't realize that there was so much more substance to this movie than I had initially imagined. It's a great feel good movie that won't leave you disappointed. I would highly recommend it.

    What A Surprise!

This is my new favorite film! Ben Stiller gave a sublime performance & Sean Penn, even though he didn't get much screen time, is the metaphorical "puppeteer" for Walter's transformation. Watch for Shirley MacLaine's magic as his mother... Everything just seemed to work, including the chemistry between Stiller and Kristen Wiig. BTW it's nothing like the original.

Overall this was a quality movie from Ben Stiller, not to say it was his best movie ever of course but for the most part its a movie that a whole family can enjoy. One of the things I liked about this movie is that there was great scenery shown through out, made you wish you could of been there with them in some of the locations.

I went into this film with no preconceived ideas as to what to expect and I left satisfied. This film mixes beautiful settings, humor, romance in a way not crammed together. I enjoyed the overall tone of the flim that the main character had to just live life to the fullest. This is totally a watch for anyone looking to have a good movie experience.

I had no idea what to expect from this movie. It had gotten good reviews & Best Buy had it on sale for a great price so I gave it a whirl. The whole family enjoyed it! (Ages 15,12, & 8) We laughed. We cried. Ben Stiller did a great job going from a nobody to a somebody. And the phone calls from the guy in LA with the dating agency were a fun addition.

I own my own photography business on the side as a landscape and wildlife photographer, I must admit after watching this film that I have definitely added some new places to my photography 'bucket list'. Some scenes are simply incredible and the storyline while cheesy at times, really can touch the soul if you can identify with Walter in some aspects.

I didn't know what to think when I first watched this, but it is surprisingly good. It stars Ben Stiller and Kristen Wiig and that jerky boss. It has a very different story line about a man who never does anything exciting and he keeps having visions of him going out and doing dangerous thing and has lots of fantasies about Kristen Wiig's character.

This film quickly joined my top favorites. Especially as a feel good film filled with breath taking visuals, fun quirky characters, and inspiring messages. I was surprised to find the regular DVD version in the discount bins, but I ultimately decided to purchase the Blu-Ray mainly for the visuals. Definitely worth it in my opinion.

For years, my favorite movie was "princess bride" While this movie doesn't knock that one out of first place, it could be second.. A very interesting, feel good movie which leaves you very satisfied. The landscapes are amazing. While it has little to do with the story it is named after, it is still wonderfully written. Great movie
