Decent horror/thriller

Wes Craven tries his hand at supernatural horror once more. The end result is more Nightmare on Elm Street than Shocker. It’s not as good as Nightmare... mind you, but it does have quite an original concept that is executed well. The picture and audio from the blu-ray is very pleasing. I thought grain was lacking a tiny bit but detail was still pretty decent. Overall, I’d recommend it for horror fans.

This movie is based on the novel ''The Serpent And The Rainbow'' by Wade Davis, which is based on a true story. This movie however exaggerates the events that happened in real life.
It is about a man named Dennis Alan who is doing research in Haiti. He learns about a powder called the ''zombie powder''. It is called that because of the zombie-like effect it has on the body when it is blown in a person's face. Throughout the movie, he is being tormented by a Haitian man named Peytraud. Peytraud uses Voodoo magic to give Dennis terrifying nightmares, because he wants Dennis to leave the country. He even warns Dennis in person at one point to leave the country and stop butting in to their business. Dennis ends up falling in love with a woman in that country named Marielle. At one point, Dennis steals the powder, and goes back to America. During dinner with his employer, Peytraud uses Voodoo magic to possess the wife of Dennis's employer. She grabs a knife and tries to kill him, saying to him in Peytraud's voice ''You're going to die''. She then slashes him in the face. Dennis is freaked out and flies back to Haiti to try to stop Peytraud.
I like this movie a lot. I like the style and I find it is cool and well made.

Creepy, Scary, Wonderul Horror Film

What can I say about the work of one of my favorite directors that hasn't already been said? Wes Craven was one of the genre greats and he left us all too soon. This is easily one of the most effective films in his canon. Creepy, disturbing, terrifying, and not for the faint of heart. See it...but maybe leave the lights on? The Blu looks pretty good considering the age of the film. The special feature documentary about the making of the film was a little odd because the book's author appeared in a very small window as a picture in picture on the screen. I'm assuming he phoned in- literally! -his interview. That threw me a bit...as did the fact that we never actually see Bill Pullman in his present-day form. Instead, we simply hear him talking. But, these things considered, the feature was fun, informative, and a nice addition. Scream Factory almost never fails to please with their releases of old classics and this one is no exception. I definitely recommend this genre gem with this release!

Always liked this Wes Craven film about voodoo, which is an early effort from Bill Pullman. I think it has some silliness about it in that 80's sort of way. It is a fun movie and has Bill Pullman featured in the commentary. I like that Shout Factory brings out these collector's editions of films that have a cult following. Given the age of the film it has some great special effects. These editions are always a bit pricey so it all depends on your tastes.

Underrated Wes Craven Horror Film!

This is an under appreciated film of Wes Craven’s. It isn’t perfect, but it’s never boring. Bill Pullman plays his role with an intensity that showcased early on that his range was great, seeing as he played in Mel Brook’s Spaceballs not long before this. The PQ and AQ are up to Scream Factory standards, which are always good-to-great. This movie could only really look better in 4K (which I would be shocked to ever see released.)

The Serpent and the Rainbow isn't your normal zombie movie, Rainbow puts the voodoo back in to zombies I found it enjoyable but it's not for everyone. Kind of gives off the vibe "I Walked with a Zombie" if you liked that movie you should enjoy Rainbow.

Excellent for an 80's TV movie. Not quite the quality of Kolchak the Night Stalker, but a very entertaining television show.

My SIL requested this as a holiday gift, she wanted to upgrade from VHS to DVD. I've seen the movie (long ago) and it wasn't my cup of tea -- but hey, that's what she wanted and she's looking forward to it.

A Wes Craven Classic. Filmed in Haiti and based on true life experiences of Wade Davis. See the deadly world of voodoo in this terrifying story.
Bill Pullman is great as Wade and so is the supporting cast.
