The Silence of the Lambs finally debuts on Blu-ray with an MPEG-2 encoded 1080p high definition transfer, presented inside a 1.85:1 frame. The image is fairly grainy, and black backgrounds generally see a spike in the level of visible noise. The film has a bleak, depressed look about it through much of the runtime, setting the tone for the feel of the film and the grisly characters that inhabit it. Colors, too, are slightly dulled in some scenes but a bit brighter in others. They are always stable and strong and never too harsh and overblown or underdeveloped. Fine detail is adequate but not stunning. The rough textures of Lecter's cell walls and the pit where Bill keeps his victims are fairly well defined, but there are no earth-shattering levels of fine detail seen here. Other objects look better under the right conditions, a tape recorder and several drawings seen in Lecter's Tennessee holding cell, for example, offer higher levels of visible detail than do those in darker, danker, grimier locales. Flesh tones look good throughout. Blacks, aside from seeing a rather heavy level of noise, are dark but not always deep and inky, and there is occasionally a slight loss of fine detail in the darker corners of the image. The Silence of the Lambs offers a bland visual style that will never sparkle on any format, and it is reproduced fairly well on this Blu-ray release.

Movies at a bargain!

We were looking around at another retailer and couldn't find the movie we wanted and happened to stop in to Best Buy wondering if there was a collection of movies that were of similar bargain prices like the huge retail store we came from. Sure enough, after looking at the available movies we found what we were looking for and could view it that evening, and at the same price as the other retailer! Sometimes it is nice just to be able to drive around somewhere instead of having everything come to you. There are movies galore at this location and surely they will have others. Now there is an alternative to the red machine at other shops or the collections at other big retailers. Best Buy has them on shelves and not in bins!

Great movie, classic for sure. rock solid performances from all the actors . Anthony Hopkins as Hannibal steals the show for sure, while Jodie Foster gave an empowering feel to Clarice .
The Goodbye horses scene towards the end is certainly something that will stick with you. As far as the 4k transfer goes, id say its rather excellent all around sound, and picture both come through with great clarity.
Only complaint is theres no digital copy with this cut .

By now, most of you will be familiar with this film. Jodie Foster and Anthony Hopkins are both excellent in this thrilling and dark adaptation of the Thomas Harris novel.
It has now been over 5 years since this film was release on Blu-ray, and this adaptation stands above any of the DVD or VHS versions that preceded it. However, it is by no means perfect. The picture in this film, while sharper and more detailed than the DVD release, still suffers from inconsistent black levels and a fair amount of noise in the picture. It isn't terrible for a 23 year old film, but compared to modern films on Blu-ray, shot with digital cameras, the age definitely shows. This movie could benefit from a remastered edition, but currently I don't believe one is in the works.
On the audio side, the score is haunting and engaging, but the Lossless 5.1 audio track has few discrete surround effects, and makes little use of immersive surround elements in general.
Overall, the movie is excellent, and I would recommend it. While still flawed, it is the best transfer of the film to date. As a reference disc for what Blu-ray can do on the technology side it still falls woefully short. At the current price of $4.99 at Best Buy however, I would recommend it even to those unfamiliar with the film. You won't be disappointed.

I have loved this movie since I was a child, however I always remember us watching it on a VHS player and a 32 inch color screen Television with Stereo sound. Now that i have upgraded to a 50 inch flat screen 240hz LED TV with 3D capability... my movie experience has completely changed for some films. After buying this BluRay, I was able to enjoy one of my favorite movies with so much more clarity and better sound quality that previous technology lacks. Also a plus, theres not a ton of advertisements on this BluRay! I'd recommend this to anyone who wants to see a great cult classic.

I saw this movie at the theater, on DVD, Blu-Ray, and now in 4K. I can say, without a doubt, this is the best this amazing film has ever looked. Glad they kept some film grain in. And picture detail is stunning. Especially with the additional Dolby Vision. If you're a 4K physical media enthusiast, definately add this to your collection.

A brilliant adaptation of the book of the same name, The Silence of the Lambs depicts a young FBI recruit talking too a convicted serial killer. She is searching for a current serial killer that is taking women all over an area in the mid west.. He helps her but she has to help him as well.. Anthony Hopkins and Jodie Foster are outstanding in this. The suspense and paranoid fear searching for an answer is awesome to watch. A great crime thriller!

If you haven't seen this movie before, then what are you waiting for!?! Ntm, it's now in 4K! There are some issues with the transfer, but that's mainly because of the print that was supplied to Kino Lorber. So there's a few hiccups with this release. Still worth owning nonetheless!

If you do not have this one in your collection, you might as well stop collecting. Sir Anthony is the epitome of a bad guy. This is the movie everyone should study if they want to start a career as a thespian. I'm a huge Jodie Foster fan, so this movie is in my top 3 all time classics.

I've seen many, many movies, and while 'Silence of the Lambs' may not come up in my discussions with friends about our favorite movies, this film is without a doubt one of the best movies ever made. It's suspenseful at the right times, it's uneasy, and it features one of the most iconic evil characters of all time (Anthony Hopkins as Hannibal Lecter is a legendary performance). All of the sequels failed to live up to the expectations set forth by the original...but how could they?

One of the films to sweep the top 5 at the Academy Awards. Oscar for: best picture, director, actor, actress, screenplay. Only the third film to ever do this.
The film is fantastic. Now presented in 4K blu ray for the best home viewing experience.

The film is obviously an all-time great, but the 2021 Kino Lorber 4K is fantastic. It uses the same transfer as the Criterion blu-ray, but this disc is in true 4K and the HDR makes it just slightly a nicer picture than the Criterion Blu-ray.

Having read the book, this movie pulled off the same feelings of suspense, horror and anticipation that I had when I read it. The acting is fantastic all the way around and how could you not like Anthony Hopkins iconic portrayal of Hannibal Lecter? The plot is dynamic and I have to hand it to the director, Jonathan Demme, for pulling it off. Too bad the other movies associated with this one were not as impressive.

Silence of The Lambs is one of the greatest psychological horror movies of all time, but it is also one of the scariest. This movie deals with some incredibly mature and sickening subject matter that will undoubtedly make your skin crawl
