    'The Soft Bulletin' by rock band the Flaming Lips was released during a lull in the band's career, post-'Transmissions from a Satellite Heart' success. While considered a critical and fan-success, the album hadn't been able to duplicate the sales of 'Transmissions'. An apparent concept album about the possible destruction of humanity after the sun approaches 'red giant' status before going supernova, the themes reflect environmental concerns as well apprehension about the long-term survival of planet earth.

    Clearly one of the leading contenders for best rock album of the nineties, this album was departure from the lips more psychedelic acid rock days and sees them expanding their horizons into more melodic and heartfelt territory. An album of extreme beauty. Get this now!
