Scream Factory a division of Shout factory has been releasing collectors editions of horror films for a few years now and gives us fans, movies, otherwise ignored or not featuring any special features from the main studios, tons of bonus features and remastered audio and picture. i had the original barebones the thing blu ray for awhile but when i saw they were doing this one, i was like sold. the main selling point for me was the insane amount of bonus content including new interviews, new making of segements, commentaries, outtakes, network version and more. The thing is prob the scariest movie john carpenter has directed since halloween. it is very claustrophobic as it takes place in a base camp in antartica with no escape. the atmosphere is scary, the paranioa is scary and real and the ending is perfect. highly recommended

I wanted this classic movie on Blu-ray for awhile and found it at Best Buy for a great price. Had it delivered, watched it, and enjoyed it!!! This collector's edition also has a few behind-the-scenes special features of footage when they were originally filming... along with discussions about the practical effects they used at the time. The HD picture quality and sound were both great for this Blu-ray edition.

The Thing - Collector's Edition finally!

Classic Sci-Fi Horror from the 80s finally gets a proper bluray release by Scream Factory. It looks better than ever and is packed with plenty of great extras including a lot of vintage footage and commentaries. The Thing is truly one of John Carpenter's original classics. It's worth a watch for the excellent, early days of practical effects alone. The story takes place in a remote station in Antarctica in which the crew encounter 'something' that quickly spreads an extreme sense of paranoia.

One of the greatest horror movies ever gets a facelift and has a ton of new special features included. New interviews from the cast, a fans documented trip to the shooting location, even the TV version altogether for the first time. Only thing that would have topped it all off was if they added the alternate ending somewhere on there. If you have ever enjoyed this movie before, get it and be prepared to spend a good majority of an afternoon to go through all the special features.

The story of the discovery of an alien creature found frozen at a destroyed Norwegian Antarctic science station. The American team that find the creature soon find out that it's not dead, just in hibernation. And this is where the horror begins. Horror master John Carpenter directed this film and the cast is headed Kurt Russell. If you haven't seen give it a shot!

Wow! This new re-master makes all other editions irrelevant. Shout knocked this one out of the park! Great color, sharpness, detail, and sound. A lot of the extras from the 90s laserdisc are ported over including the documentary (the intro of which features a laserdisc flying towards Earth). But there are also new interviews with the cast and a new commentary from Dean Cundey. If you like the movie, there's NO reason not to own this edition.

Bought this for my boyfriend as an anniversary gift, The Thing is probably his favorite horror movie so I knew he'd love it. Haven't watched any of the special features yet, but wow it was definitely worth the extra money for the blu-ray. I don't usually care about that kind of stuff or can even tell the difference, but this one you can really notice the difference. It was awesome, & my boyfriend was freaking out he was so excited about it haha.

I am not usually a horror movie fan. As it turns out, I do enjoy movies which blend Sci-Fi and Horror (e.g. Predator, Aliens, and The Terminator). If you like some of the movies I've listed, then you might enjoy The Thing. Kurt Russell's beard is super epic, the cinematography is beautiful, and it features a score by the legendary Ennio Morricone. This special edition BD is a new transfer and looks great.

This is one of my favorite films, but I refused to buy it on blu-ray until an edition came out worthy of it. The original Universal release omitted some of the great bonus features from the DVD release and had a weird, waxy transfer. Scream Factory fixes any issues a person could have had with the release and gives it the honoring it deserves. Any John Carpenter fan should have this on their shelves.

Though I prefer the cover art with the title and nothing more, this will do. The movie The Thing is a classic, a look into what horror films looked in the 80s with top notch animitronics and puppets. The alien and what it can do is enough to give you the shivers, Kurt Russell and supporting cast give a glimpse into the paranoia of an intruder on an isolated Antarctic research base.

This may be my favorite one out of all Carpenter and Russell movies. Awesome suspense and I always like the 80's special effects. Limited abilities, but I still love. Awesome cast. Reminds me of 12 Angry Men with an alien. I love popping this in during the Winter or Halloween. Well worth purchasing. The bonus features are better than the original DVD.

Based on a novella called "Who Goes There?" by John W. Campbell and a remake of the 1951 Howard Hawks The Thing from another world. THis version is the best. It is not for the faint of heart! It came out at the same time as E.T. and was forgotten at the box office but thanks to cable and home video the Thing found its audience. It is a must see for horror and SciFi fans.

This is my favorite overall horror film that has a great mix of science fiction. Based off the original film "It Came From Outer Space," John Carpenter created a suspenseful thriller of who done it? But with an Alien. I think this is far more well rounded with characters and story development than Halloween. I just get a joy each time I watch this because it's so good!

This ranks as one of the best Carpenter movies for a reason. What really sold me on this version is the bountiful extras. Usually, once the Shout Factory releases a film, the double dipping is over and until they start releasing 4K versions, this is the definitive release. If you want to invest in the only necessary release of this movie, this is the edition for you.

In the middle of the COVID 19 pandemic, John Carpenter's The Thing really brings home the paranoia and terror. As the tension builds the movie ends on a somewhat quiet yet realistic note that people in isolation are sure to be able to relate to.

I absolutely love this movie as it has some of the best practical effects for its time! All parts in the movie that include "The Thing" are amazing puppetry and the fact that it didn't get more love until recent day is a shame!!

The Thing is one if the best remakes. It surpasses the 1951 original with a sense of isolation and dread as 12 men are stranded with a creature from another world that can take you over one cell at a time. Paranoia and suspense from John Carpenter one of the Masters Of Horror.

Pulled from a new 2K scan of the original negative, John Carpenter's 'The Thing' has never looked better. I made the leap from a standard DVD version, and the difference is phenomenal. Highly recommended for horror or sci-fi fans, this is a classic, and now looks better than ever.
