Not the best visuals but the black scenes looks really good on a 4K tv.

The Universe seems to be a hastily thrown together documentary to take advantage of the emerging format and consumers hungry enough to buy anything on 3D for cheap.

Bought this for $10 just to check out a 3D. I like space shows. This one was kinda dry, wish they showed more super novas. But the 3D was cool.

As an astronomy and science junkie, I was delighted to see a 3D offering from A&E's The Universe and had pretty high expectations for it. Overall, this film is a mixed bag with more good than bad, but I'm glad I picked it up on sale.
Most expectations were met, such as high quality renderings of space scenes and good narration/content that is easy to grasp and enjoyable to listen to. Some of the content, however, bordered on being too elementary, such as the poorly rendered HUD and spaceship that takes the viewer on a tour of the solar system... in both concept and execution, this gives the viewer the impression that the film is geared toward young children when the actual content is mostly around high school level.
The 3D effect is good as this film consists of a mixture of rendered 3D content and live action footage that appears to have been shot with a 3D camera. When the effect isn't ruined by ghosting it can be quite impressive. It seems that space doesn't lend itself too well to current 3D technology; just as with the IMAX 3D Space Station film, there is plenty of ghosting when black backgrounds dominate the scene. That isn't to say all of the space scenes have excessive ghosting, though. For instance, the 3D footage of the Sun from NASA's twin satellites (cleverly named STEREO) is truly a sight to behold.
At a scant 44 minutes, this is an entertaining and interesting 3D journey through our solar system that should fit within the attention span of its target audience.

Very interesting to watch and educational. I would have preferred it to be a bit longer but still a good watch for young and old audiences.

This is a very interesting and educational video about planets in our solar system . The video quality is excellent. The 3D effects are also excellent .The meteors come off the screen at you ! This movie offers a lot of 3D eye candy . It is better 3D than a lot of movies 3 x the money.

The DVD was very attractive to buy. I did not realize that it was computer animated instead of real video.
