$169 GPS that works like a $50 unit
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchased this unit to replace a Magellan Roadmate 3055 MT, a refurbished $50 GPS that although functional, is very sluggish. I watched several reviews about the Tomtom and was mesmerized by how clean the display looked and the supposed features, none of that translated to real life. I wanted the features that I did like from the Magellan, but with a modern touch screen and faster interface, none of those expectations where met. The touch screen is the old style resistive type, not capacitance, which means you have to use your fingernails or a stylus to enter commands, it will not respond to simple fingertip presses. Because the screen is a resistive touch screen, the display looks a lot dimmer than what you expect from either a smart phone or what was presented on many review videos and demonstrations. The processor in the unit is slow, and I doubt its even dual core, map scrolling is sluggish, and so is response to address inputs, something reminiscent from GPS units of 5 years ago or older. The Tomtom takes a long time to boot up. There is no voice command on this unit, something that made Tomtom units of the past stand out from the competition. The mount clip is too stiff, you have to put pressure on the frame to remove it, and you can see the LCD taking pressure, not a good sign for longevity. The worse feature is the Bluetooth, it will pair up with your phone, but only to transfer traffic data, the hands free feature for making and taking phone calls does not work, there is no option to dial from the gps, and it will not answer incoming calls as a speaker phone. My old Magellan, a 2010 unit, has handsfree dialing, a cradle instead of a clip, and the processor is just as sluggish as this Tomtom. For a supposed popular device from Europe, the Tomtom is a great disappointment. I will return mine to BestBuy promptly.

Poor, addresses not found, bad screen layout, no f
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have been using Tom Tom GPS's for many, many years. I recently left my VIA 1500 in a rental car. Went with the purchase of the GO 50S for my replacement. I was really looking forward to the new layout and 3D mapping. But this devices is the worst TomTom product I have ever owned (even compared to cheaper older models). The screen navigation for settings and searching for POI's or addresses is horrible and very touchy which makes it a larger challenge that it should be to navigate the menus. The traffic updates are only via your own smartphone and not like previous FM transmitters. I wasted an entire day forcing myself to use the device, I really wanted to like it. But after having the device not find three specific address that the VIA had found without issues… I decided TomTom is going in a direction with new models which I do not care for especially if it cannot find address or POI’s previous models already had. I took the device back for a refund and will now decide if I want to buy an older model online or change to a competitor. I was previously extremely loyal to the TomTom brand but this new OS layout and poor mapping may be what pushes me away. If you like the older model layouts don't get the new GO's and if you do buy one, put all expectations aside: you've been warned...

Posted .Hello, I'm sorry to read that the device did not meet your expectations and that you decided to return the device.
For other customers, when you are searching for destinations, please ensure that the address that you are searching for is in the parameters that your device is set for. By default, the device is set to "Near Me" which is a radius of 50 miles. If the address you are searching for is farther than that then please change the parameters on the top right corner of the search menu from "Near Me" to "Whole Map". Additionally,as you type out your destination the GO will give you suggestions, on the left side is the addresses and places, on the right are the Points of interests. You can also find Point of interest categories by typing them out e.g. "Rest" for Restaurants and then click the category on the right side off the results. To see all the suggestions you can put away the keyboard by clicking the button with 3 lines on the bottom right corner of the screen.

great gps for the price
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is a great gps. Lifetime updates from your pc. Also you can get real time traffic updates if you own a smart phone. The only downfall with this gps is that it might take a while to find a location or an address. But overall the map on the screen looks great. And you can place a set location and save it.

Posted .Hello Chuck, I'm sorry to read that you have had issues updating your device and your maps.
Please ensure that your firewall and Anti-virus software are not preventing MyDrive from working as it is supposed to. it is also helpful to download your maps with a fast internet connection, and if the speed is not great then you can leave the device to download over night.
If you continue experiencing issues downloading the updates, you can reach out to our Customer Care Department on our direct line 866 486 6866 or the following page: http://bit.ly/Jn4Fjv. Our agents will be on hand to assist you.

not what it used to be
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I to have a Tomtom One Some of the features that are missing is the gas stations that would be on the map it self and hotels as well. Who's dumb idea was to take it out. It doesn't sound off for red-light cams. and it is set to sound off but it doesn't work. You need to place them back in. I have never had a problem with the Tomtom One. the new one Tomtom Go 50 S is not all that good.
