Which honestly is the only thing I like. The touch screen seems 2 have issues. Have 2 keep tapping over & over before it works. I also don't like how it does not have a search engine for shopping, restaurants & so forth. I've decided I am going to return it & look for something easier.

I am sorry to hear that the screen and the universal search on the TomTom Go 50 S was not to your liking. If you still have the device in your possession, I would like to comment on the issues you raised to hopefully improve your experience.
The search on the TomTom GO 5 S allows different ways of searching in the entry bar. The search function is set-up in a way that allows you to search based on zip codes, addresses, coordinates and POIs’ (such as shops and restaurants). When you search the results will be divided into two columns, with the left being addresses and cities and the POIs’ on the right side. We also offer a comprehensive user guide online which you can access for more information. On page 35 you can find more information about the search function. Does the Job for motorcycle use

The new menu system took some getting used to.. On the road the map updates are OK. I use mine mounted on a motorcycle and the voice volume is low compared to my previous unit. The traffic updates are kind of iffy at times because it relies on your cell phone/bluetooth connectivity. So if you have no cell signal you can kiss the traffic updates good bye. Overall it is a good value and I would recommend it.

I have a smart phone so I was able to download the app and get everything connected. If you don't have a smartphone get the VIA series Tom Tom.

Posted .Hi Mike50014, as you have stated correctly, the GO 50 and 60 require a smartphone in order to receive real-time Traffic. The GO 5000/6000, however, has real-time traffic information built-in and thus does not require a smartphone.

This "improved" unit takes twice the memory to give half the maps, has no room for Favorites, provides much less descriptive directions, and is much, much harder to read when driving. In addition, the Traffic function no longer exists unless you download an app through your cellphone - so, why get this in the first place? Add to this the incredibly lengthy (read: "tortuous") discussions with Best Buy personnel, NONE of whom had ANY product knowledge, and the entire experience was woefully painful!

I am sorry to read of your unpleasant experience with the GO50. I will comment on the points you rose in order to improve your experience.
The map size becomes larger and larger every year. That is due to the growing number of streets our maps cover but also to the 3D features that require additional space. You can make more space available by only downloading certain areas in 3D or buying a SD card for the device.
Regarding the readability of the screen you could either increase the brightness of the device or try to reposition the device in your car so that no direct sunlight can fall in. To increase the brightness, please select settings in the menu, then appearance, display and brightness.
The live traffic features are available via the MyDrive app for the reason that we can achieve a much better accuracy and coverage this way. Our own research has shown that the majority of our users already possess a smartphone. We therefore saw in the smartphone connection the fastest and most cost efficient way to deliver our services to our customers.
