When Tom Tom was called, i was told i need to update my unit om a monthly basis to hopefully eliminate the problem. My other GPS is a different company & i never had a lost satellite issue

Posted .Hi there. Thanks for taking the time to leave this review. It is indeed correct that you will need to update the GPSfix on the device to give you the best possible GPS accuracy. Satellites are constantly moving and can be pulled from alignment by gravity, so the device can loose them. We release these GPSfix updates to tell the tomtom the last known location of the satellites. You may not have to do this on a monthly basis, but we recommend it to prevent issues like this from happening. Some peoples devices could go years without loosing the signal, others can loose it within a month and have to do the update. However, If you do these updates and you are still loosing signal then there is an issue with the GPS chip itself which would need to be investigated further. Please rest assured that are devices are not built to loose signal. I hope this helps! - Reiss @ TomTom
