||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.my plan was to transfer my important docs to this external and then reformat my computer. i transferred the docs, reformatted my comp and then when i plugged it back up the computer couldn't read it at all. apparently this issue is common. took it to best buy and all they could suggest was that i pay 100 bucks for them to manually remove the hard drive from the external and to put it into my laptop

Posted .Thank you for the review, MegaErica, but I can assure you that there's nothing common about having a drive work fine to write a significant batch of files and then suddenly not work for reading them.
Other alternatives to putting the drive inside your computer would be trying another USB cable and, if that fails, putting the drive into a new USB enclosure.
As a simple warranty procedure, if recovering data were not an issue, you can initiate a warranty replacement at acclaim.toshiba.com anytime during the warranty.
