Customers are saying
Customers are impressed with the Canvio Slim II's ease of use, ample storage space, and compact size. Many appreciate its affordable price and fast transfer speeds via USB 3.0. Positive feedback also highlights its lightweight and sleek design. However, some users experienced compatibility issues, particularly with Mac systems, and found the included software less than intuitive.

Excellent Tiny Hard Drive
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is a great little hard drive. I purchased this hard drive on eBay from Best Buy and got it today 8/08/2014. So far all I'm going to use it for is backing up my HP SimpleSave 1TB hard drive which has 447.53 GB of Wii backup (195 games) on it. I've been running both hard drives fairly hard for about two hours and the Toshiba Canvio Slim II drive is as cool as a cucumber. On the other hand my HP SimpleSave drive is starting to get hot. I think the Toshiba Canvio Slim II drive will make a great backup drive and it's well worth the $50 I paid for it. I also purchased my HP SimpleSave drives from Best Buy. Thank you Best Buy you've got excellent merchandise!

Didn't Even Last a Year
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I took really good care of my external drive. It had pretty much all of my important files on it, and it decided to randomly break. I had it plugged in, placed on a flat surface like always, and suddenly it starts making a loud whirring sound. It is no longer accessible on my computer and when I try, it crashes Windows explorer. I looked it up online and apparently this is an issue a lot of people have been having with Toshiba hard drives. I bought a hard drive as my safe way to store important files, and now they are all gone.

Posted .Thank you for the review, Nick, and sorry to hear about the apparent drive failure.
You can initiate Toshiba's warranty replacement process at acclaim.toshiba.com anytime during the warranty drive's period.
For future reference, because no storage medium is immune to potential or eventual failure, an important best practice is to always keep at least two copies of any important files -- typically one on a primary storage medium and a secondary backup. (Some would add that at least one of those storage mediums should be kept at a different location, to protect it from natural disasters.) This eliminates the risk of data loss due to any single point of failure.
Thanks again for the feedback and sorry for the trouble.

I returned this item...
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have a mac and a win pc, when using this drive on both platforms a couple of glitchy things started happening. this product is better suited for a windows pc, not really for macs even though it works on macs, my mac sometimes didn't recognized it. Best advice, just use it on one platform.

Posted .Thank you for the review, bee guy, and sorry to hear that you encountered some sort of trouble using your Canvio Slim hard drive with your Mac.
I wonder if you could provide us with a little detail regarding what you saw when your Mac sometimes didn't seem recognize the drive.
We would generally connecting the drive directly to the computer's USB port for highest reliability, but its possible that your Mac doesn't provide enough power on its USB port to reliably operate the drive. So to troubleshoot this type of problem I'd recommend putting a powered USB hub between the Mac and the drive to see if that would resolve the problem.
The bundled NTFS driver for Mac OS should make the drive work reliably with both Windows and Mac OS PCs, making it easy to share data between both types of devices or to simply have backups for both on a single external drive.
Thanks for the feedback and sorry for the trouble.

Absolutely Terrible
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This drive is great, if you like power-cycling it every 5 minutes. Toshiba apparently thinks it's OK to have a mounted drive simply disappear, even if a file on it is open in a program. Furthermore, after a while it simply doesn't show up at all, even after power cycling. All in all, this drive is a very pretty but nearly completely useless paperweight. If you're lucky enough to not have the problem's I've experienced with it and it's Terabyte-sized brother, It's not a terrible drive, and it would be decently priced if it worked correctly.
