Since you mention lagging performance since day one, I wonder how long you've had the unit and if Windows Update has been busy downloading & preparing updates for installation. That's often the case on brand new systems, and if so it will tax initial performance for a period of time when the system is brand new. You may want to run the Windows Update app to see what it's up to, if anything. If it has critical updates to install, I recommend having it complete that process ASAP and reboot when it's finished (even if not required) to see if performance improves significantly once that process is complete. I don't recommend letting Windows Update install any "optional" updates since those can overwrite drivers & utilities that are optimized for or by Toshiba. Optional updates can be installed via the Toshiba Service Station app or by visiting support.toshiba.com.
Of course, the perceived speed & responsiveness of any PC will depend somewhat on the number of programs and processes currently running on the unit at any point in time, and their respective demands on various components, subsystems, and networking resources. Rebooting Windows and then checking performance after loading each individual app is one way to determine when the resource load begins to impact performance, and which apps most impact performance.

We don't use the laptop nearly as much as we used to and didn't need much, but still needed something. This computer fit the bill AND our price range. It seems a little slow to me, but my last laptop was a little souped up and we are having problems with our internet provider so I cannot really say if it is the computer or something else. Other than that we are very happy with our purchase.

Of the computers I looked at that Bestbuy offered, this appeared to be the best deal. After using it for a few weeks I have no major complaints, it's a good product for what I payed and gets the job done. It's a bit clunky though, so if you want something light and easy to transport this is probably not what you want to go with. Overall it's a good, inexpensive computer.

I purchased this model because of the low price and the Toshiba reputation. You get what you pay for. It's a little slow and the mouse is a little tricky to navigate.

When I started looking for a laptop I knew that I did not want an expensive laptop with all the bells and whistles. When I found this Toshiba it was like that's it. That's the one. I am not sorry that I purchased this computer. It has been a good reliable performer I could not ask for better. This computer came preloaded with Microsoft Windows 8.1. I discovered that there was a glitch with Windows 8.1 that was an easy fix. When I would try to open an app it would open then immediately close. I made a set of system recovery discs and then ran a full system recovery. That solved the problem. Now all my apps open without any problems.

We knew this would be a substantial step down from her previous laptop, but took the risk anyway. The laptop does what it's supposed to, however, it does seem to get very warm even with a lap board. The graphics card is sufficient, but definitely on the lower end. It runs the core programs well, and would be a good starter laptop or a decent web surfing device.
