Customers regard the Wi-Fi Smart Plug with Energy Monitoring (2-Pack) favorably due to its ease of use and energy monitoring features. Many appreciate the remote control capabilities and reliable WiFi connectivity. However, some customers find the size of the plug to be somewhat large, impacting the usability of adjacent outlets. The product's compatibility with smart home systems like Amazon Echo is also a frequently cited advantage.

This is a review of a free product received from TP-LINK as part of the review program.
That's what they told me to put at the top of the review, but I've been more of a worst case beta tester for the HS110, as I received it in January 2016. Initially TP-LINK didn't support Kasa connecting to hidden SSID routers, so I had to reveal my SSID until they added that feature.
However, SSID revealed or not, I couldn't actually use it until just a few days ago, when I realized that the AP Isolation I'd enabled on my router for years was blocking communication between RPi & my tablet (that I previously had on separate wireless networks), so the HS110 was almost certainly having that issue too when I tried to connect to it with Kasa.
Just after AP Isolation was disabled, the HS110 had a few problems, like it not connecting to my hidden SSID on the first manual entry & the firmware update detected prompt resulting in "update unsuccessful", forcing me to reset & go to settings and update manually.
After keeping at it, I plugged a nightlight into the HS110 and there's no perceptible app on-off switch delay! I plugged my RPi into it so I can quickly reset it if I can't SSH login & reboot.
It doesn't like when my router reboots though, claiming the device (HS110, RPi, or both?) is offline, and needs more prodding than I would like to get active status/stats. Preferably I'd want Kasa to say the WAN IP of the HS110 stopped responding to pings, or something less vague, so I can tell what's to blame.
Comparing this unit to the Amazon ASIN, it looks like TP-LINK redesigned the case? Currently my Uniden cordless handset charger's AC adapter (9mm from the top of the plastic to the top of the plug) won't fit under the review unit HS110 (with no logo, only the text "TP-LINK") in a standard US grounded 2-plug outlet. I wonder if the newer version HS110 would be more friendly to sharing these outlets.
For the aforementioned reasons, for this older version...
No, I would not recommend this to a friend

I purchased this item to restart my router remotely. Since there is not an option to restart a device, I programmed in the app an off time followed by an on time a few minutes later. To my surprise this worked when tested in my home although my network was down after the off time. There is no documentation on their support site to explain how the device works in detail. When I did the same test away from home, I received different error messages when the off time was reached and the device was not turned off. There was no item in support to help me fix a remote access problem and of course none regarding using programmed on and off times remotely. I returned the device.
