Woody Harrelson and Matthew McConaughey were amazing, especially McConaughey. But the overall mood and attention paid to the whole story made buying this a no brainer. I had only seen the first 2 episodes before the season DVD came out and I had to see the rest.

The first season of TD is superlative in the way that it balances the light and darkness that exist in the human soul. The cast is perfectly cast, the story line utterly engaging, and the editing/direction, superb. This is television at it's finest.

This is one mother effer of a show. Excellent writing, superb casting & acting, and I thought the subtle clue given as to who the killer is was awesome. Also, you get to see Alexandra Daddario's perfect breasts :D

Absolutely, one of the best shows that's ever been on tv. Matthew and Woody do an amazing job acting. The dialect is so intriguing. The concept is unique and kept my interest and attention 100% during every single episode. This series comes HIGHLY recommended!

The plot isn't all that surprising, but Nic Pizzolatto paints a gritty world with deep characterization. Brought to life by talents Woody Harrelson and Matthew McConoughy, True Detective is an intense ride with tragically flawed people.

Dark, complex, gripping. This is what I enjoy. Woody and Matthew both give stellar performances. The cinematography is top notch. I'm impressed with the recent offerings from HBO. I look forward to season 2. Different locale, different characters, etc.

Gritty, gothic and relentless, this HBO series gets its hands dirty with a labyrinthine murder mystery based in Louisiana. Top notch acting and great story telling, this season outlines the fight between good and evil on a modern day level.

The show was so good I had to buy this just to add it to my library. Unfortunately, season 2 was awful. Still, it does not take anything away from season 1, which is IMHO one of the best detective / psychological series drama of all time.

This set is so compelling and the acting / sets / are so dead-on that it is a must watch! Writing and directing is great but these 2 guys just carry this thing all the way! A little rough in spots so be fore-warned.

Hands down, this was the greatest season of any TV show that I have ever seen. The acting, writing, directing, everything was perfect. I absolutely loved this season. My one complaint with it, is that I wish there was more of this season.

I thought this first season was excellent. McConaughey and Harrelson were excellent in their roles and the entire season was very intense. The plot was interesting and drew you in right away and kept you on the edge of your seat to the end.

Without spoiling too much. Two detectives spend a lifetime solving a case with and apart from each other. Lots of details and secrets exposed with every episode that culminates in a pretty satisfying ending. Good acting all around. My only complaint is that sometimes it is too serious but that's just a personal preference. I like a little levity every once in a while but some episodes' subject matter leave no room for a laugh.

My neighbor watched this awhile ago and kept telling me how good it was and I should give it a try. Glad I did! I liked the relationship between Harrelson and McConaughy and the stories were engrossing. Will watch again.

This was an amazing show that left you on the edge of your seat, who was the killer, was it Rust or Marty or both and amazing scenes with both characters and a story that had you reliving the past. A must watch and must own.

Me and my wife got confused at times while watching this as there are a lot of names being thrown around, but ultimately it was worth it as it was a very good story. We want to watch it again and I think i'll enjoy it even more.

The first season is fascinating. The actor's characters complement each other because their personalities are opposite of each other and that makes the series. Both actors do a excellent job in playing that character.

The quality of the blue-ray is superb and I loved this show when it first aired. I had to own it because it's so great! I definitely would recommend this show and can't wait to see if they can top this amazing season when it returns.

True Detective is great. This is a show where Matthew Mcconaughey finally plays a character that isn't Matthew Mcconaughey. It's dark. It's deep. It's gritty. It's awesome. A really masterfully done dive into a modern noir.

I was completely blown away by this series! Both Mathew McConaughey and Woody Harlson are fantastic and some of the best acting I've seen from them. This series packs a punch and doesnt let up. A must buy!

I loved this series. The atmosphere is gritty and the dialogue is sharp. The show can be very philosophical and very bleak in that way, but I personally loved that. This is definitely one of the best things I've seen in a while.
