When I catch the original True Grit starring John Wayne on Sunday afternoon TV, I can't help put down the remote, tune in and watch with delight. A true classic, the Cohen Brothers must feel the same way as they made a shot for shot remake of the brilliant film updating it and making it more edgy. Jeff Bridges takes on the role of Rooster Cogburn and redefines it with such vigor and method acting realness . . . you can practically smell his whiskey and tobacco soaked breath coming off the screen. This updated version if my new favorite and I've watched it dozens of times already. It's worth checking out if you love westerns or are a fan of the Cohen Brothers films (O' Brother Where Art Thou, Fargo, Inside Llewyn Davis) and you gotta realize, this movie's so good . . . they made it twice.

A good western remake with great cast! The steelbook is fabulous and the Blu-ray looks and sounds good on the 4K TV and player. I saw no issues such as dirt or defects on this release. Menu is good with easy selections and options. This is only the Blu-ray steelbook and has no DVD/Digital copy. James Brolin, Matt Damon, Jeff Bridges, Hailiee Steinfeld Recommended!

This movie is a must see! Great movie all the way through! One of my all time favorites! ......older folks always say , "oh its not as good as the original" Well sorry but yes they are, and usually always better, another example is 310 to Yuma. Just because you have memories from 1947 when you were a young boy walking 17 miles to the bus stop, watching a tiny wooden black and white tv, doesn't mean the original was better. The characters acting action , pretty much everything is so much better now then it was a hundred years ago! .....This movie is a MUST and absolutely deserves to be in everyone's collection right next to 310 to Yuma! GO BUY IT! you will not regret it!

This movie rises above other 'remakes' thanks to amazing performances by Jeff Bridges & co. and the Coens' leadership. This is a great movie for anyone who loves westerns, Jeff Bridges and/or good solid movies. Just beware that if you're a fan of the original John Wayne version, this is definitely not that. Go in expecting a quality movie with a 'different' take on Rooster Cogburn by Jeff Bridges and you'll be glad you did. Also, good-looking quality steelbook.

We are die hard fans of the old true grit and this production is very different. But, it is still a cool movie, just take for what it is and don't try to compare it to the Duke's. We thought the acting was good and the action equally. some scenes are gruesome so be careful with young children. We are sure there is a lot of language but we use an editing dvd player so it cut that stuff out for us.

Great film with a great cast. Exciting, suspensful and funny! Nice group of extra features as well. Love the steelbook cover art, although would have been nice if it had some embossing like international versions, although the price is great. International versions are much more expensive.

I am watching it now and it is very good. A remake, it is as good as the original. But it is not a total copy of the original as it has different scenes and themes.

Nice to see True Grit in HD vs an older DVD. Probably could stream somewhere but it a classic for a library.

I am a big fan of the John Wayne version but this follows the written story better. Very entertaining and mostly family friendly in my opinion.(If you are a western movie fan). Great remake.

Not truly a remake of the John Wayne classic, but rather a reimagining by the great Coen brothers who never cease to impress. An all star cast, and a more gritty(pardon the pun) feel to it this is a great western, and a great movie.

Not as good as the original, but for $8.99 in steelbook format, this is one great movie.

Delivered on time and the film is very much so worthy of a rewatch anytime of the year.

I love anything by the Coen Brothers and their remake of True Grit is excellent! Great cinematography, great actors, and a great story make this movie a must-see. And this particular Steel-Case edition is a great value!

As a fan of action and drama movies, I appreciate True Grit from season one! Lots of twist and turns and wonderful acting. Highly recommend!

Its a good remake of a classic. At a great price in a steelbook case.

This movie is a put together with really great actors and is a classic film that shows how wild was the wild west .
