I believe that these are the only movies for which John Wayne received an Oscar nomination. They are very different, and filmed at different stages of his career, but Wayne shines throughout. In The Searchers, he plays a hardened, unbending man filled with a bigotry that you will not see in any of his other films. He leads a 5-year search for a niece kidnapped by Indians in a raid, with an outcome that no one expects. In True Grit, Wayne is a Marshall of ambiguous moral character, rapidly being left behind by the march of civilization, who reluctantly champions the cause of the daughter of a man who has been murdered by his own ranch hand. Glenn Campbell joins him as a Texas Ranger with his own agenda.

My father-in-law is 86, and John Wayne STILL stands as his idol. He read a book about John Wayne and the interviewer asked him to name a few of his own favorites, and The Searchers and True Grit were at or near the top of his list. I gave this double-feature to my in-laws for Christmas, and he said it was the best gift he'd gotten in the past 20 years. Not only that, but he held a "Let's drink some wine and watch a John Wayne film" party for two of his buddies, and they all thanked me for my gift to him. That is one way to score points with the in-laws!

I've never been a huge John Wayne fan, but The Searchers is hands down my favorite movie that he ever did. It's one of the definitive westerns ever made and is a must see. True Grit is decent, but I actually prefer the newer Coen brothers version to this one. Worth seeing to compare the two though.

I made the purchase for True Grit, came with The Searchers. Never heard of the latter, surprised it was a very good movie with a great story. Started a little slow but quickly became very interesting.

Getting both "The Searchers" and "True Grit" for under $5 on Blu-ray is one of the best buys of the year. Both films look great, though you shouldn't expect miracles in the sound department. Add the Coen brothers even better update of "Grit" and you'll have a great western triple feature for a rainy Saturday afternoon.

The great late actor John Wayne love watching western movies favorite The Searchers especially the Monument Valley scenery. The movies is very sharp on Blueray glad I brought it.

ITS LIKE WATCHING THE MOVIE FOR THE FIRST TIME AGAIN. HAD THESE ON DVD. THE COLOR AND SOUND IS NIGHT AND DAY DIFFERENT. THE PRICE WAS SO CHEAP COULD NOT GO WRONG.

John Wayne is a Star! Always was, always will be! This is another of his great performances. I haven't watched The Searchers yet, but I'm sure it will be good.

Purchased the Blu-ray double feature on-line and it arrived in perfect condition. The movies look great. I would absolutely recommend this set to any John Wayne fan!

I ALREADY HAVE THESE ON DVD BUT THEY SEEM SO MUCH BETTER TO WATCH ON BLUE-RAY. GAVE THE DVD TO MY SON.

Two classic John Wayne westerns. Great picture and loads of features. A must have for the Duke fan.
