Great Mesh System

Have had several high dollar routers over the last 3 years, Netgear Nighthawk/ Asus etc... Have been decent but always having to reset them because phones/roku/game systems stop connecting. I usually have at least 23 devices on my network at any one time. Have been looking at going to mesh system for sometime but was kind of worried about the lack of management features and logging that comes with the higher priced routers. I looked at the different models on the market and decided on the AmpliFi from Ubiquiti. I have installed their access points in the past with excellent results in commercial settings so I figured it should be similar in performance. I liked that you could plug the extenders directly in an outlet... of course that can also be a negative depending on where it must go. The base unit is really pretty slick looking and the fact that it has a clock built into it's display means my wife doesn't necessarily mind it out in the open as much. The extenders are a nice size (you definitely aren't concealing them easily) but it is manageable. There is really no setup involved sothat means there is very little to manage on the router itself. The app is great and gives you who's connected, you can cut that device off if desired and how much bandwidth it is using at that point. Not very much else except a speedtest to check your ISP and a diagnostic screen that shows the current WAN status. Since installing I have not had anyone complaining that there device was not connected to the internet or any kind of speed degradation. Not for the person that likes to tinker and control every aspect of their device but for someone that wants a solid reliable home router/mesh system I highly recommend this.

"Meh" performance for an expensive unit.

I don't think this router performs well enough to warrant a $300-350 price tag. Before getting this unit, I already had what I though was just a "fairly" good router, and wanted to see how much improvement the Amplifi HD could bring. After doing a before & after speed test from several key points in the house, I was shocked to find that the Asus RT-AC1900 was an average of about 40% faster than the Amplifi HD.
I'm still giving it 4 stars, despite the letdown in performance. The unit was actually a breeze to setup. Good instructions for those who need them, an interactive touch display on the router, and a very well laid out app to aide in setup. I'd recommend this for people who want good performance (not amazing), but something that's also easy to setup.
For those less intimidated by technology, get a different mesh network system or use a couple or more Asus routers in a mesh configuration.

Good Wi-Fi Coverage for Older Home

I read lots of reviews and went with the AmpliFi system because it seemed the best value. Our house has plaster walls, so our old WiFi did not reach well in the living room (despite having a repeater). This mesh network creates no dead zones in our 2,000 square foot home despite the router being near the back of the house. Most of our yard has a great signal too. The setup is simple. Just follow the instructions and you are up and running in no time. The app easily tells you if your mesh access points are too far away. I started mine with the ideal location and then worked my way toward the main router until it had a strong signal.
The app gives useful information about your network once you're up and running. The best in my opinion is how much data each device is using in realtime on the WiFi. When the internet is slow, this helps me figure out why (typically a computer downloading OS updates). From the app you can pause or kick off any device. You can also pause all Internet traffic. I would like to see the router be able to set schedules for particular devices, so as our kids get older and have their own devices, they can be Internet off at particular times.
The main router has a screen. It's designed to be in plain sight. It's unnecessary but nice and well done. We have a monthly cap to our Internet, so I have the screen set to show our total Internet usage for the month. This has been a helpful gauge to keep an eye on things without going to our Internet Provider's website (although not as accurate).
The mesh access points are a bit odd. They plug directly into the wall, so they are low to the ground. The antennas connect to the power by magnets. This allows some movement of the antenna to point in the best direction and also prevents the antenna from breaking off, instead it just pops off and can be put back in. It seems like a good idea but is definitely a different implementation than I've ever seen.

We have a large house with a lot of kids and a TON of devices. Seriously. I'm sure we have more internet connected devices than many small businesses.
At any rate, after reading reviews from dozens of expert tech sites, and after watching hours of YouTube video reviews, I bought their recommendations only to learn none of them work as well in real world conditions as they did in the review labs.
In the comments of many of these sites and videos, there would always be people who said they tried so-and-so mesh or wifi router too, but it didn't pan out as expected... then they tried Ubiquity's Amplifi system and it's been trouble free ever since.
This makes sense. Ubiquity makes the business wifi that covers shopping malls and huge offices, and they've been doing it right and reliably for a very long time.
So I returned my latest disappointment and bought an Amplifi mesh router, and WOW, what a difference.
We have strong, 5 GHz (not the slower 2.4 GHz) coverage everyone in the house, garage, front yard, back yard, etc.
And best of all: it keeps working.
Maybe some other product has a faster speed in a laboratory benchmark, but unless your family works in a lab where no neighborhood wifi interferes, save yourself the headache and get this Amplifi system instead.
It's fast enough, and it is so reliable that your kids won't threaten to take your DAD CARD from you because of all the outages and dead spots they put up with.

This router came highly recommended for its ease of use and great coverage. I have a split level and have the base in the basement near the center of the space and the 2 extenders on the main floor at opposite dis of the house. The phone app that goes with the router is easy to use and allows configuration for each device.
The app provides a quick look at the status of the network with the ability to do ping tests too. Also allows you to group devices to set access the internet.
Comes in very handy at bedtime to get the kiddies to get ready.

Setup was very easy. Immediately eliminated ALL dead zones in my split level house. I️ also have two roku devices and Xbox. All now work seamlessly via wireless with zero buffer issues. Buffering used to be a huge problem.

I Live in a two-story condo, my router being downstairs, the signal never really made it to the upstairs farther sections at full strength. Tried the Google Mesh and it cut my original signal in half. Returned it. Got the Amplifi HD today and installed. Full signal throughout my condo. Probably a little over kill. Unbelievably easy to install. Up and going in less than 15 minutes! I can remember a few years ago having to spend hours getting a router up and running. Well thought out App.

This was one of the easiest routers to install. However it did require an update immediately after starting it up. Seem to have much better coverage in our home that our previous router was doing.

Alright so I have waited to write a review for awhile. I wanted to make sure that everything worked properly.
Easy to install using your smartphone or tablet. I love being able to have access via the app to see who is on my router. I have the main receiver on the second floor as the two antennas are on the first floor and one in the basement. I have great wifi service everywhere I would recommend this to everyone.

Have struggled for years piecing together a collection of NetGear WiFi Extenders to provide coverage throughout my house. The Ubiquiti-AmpliFi Mesh WiFi system was so painless to set up...very quick and easy, and it effortlessly extends our WiFi coverage to every nook and cranny of our home and delivers excellent performance with 10+ devices often connected to it.

This was the easiest router set up I've ever done. I have excellent service throughout my home and the signal is always full strength. I really like the LED display on the main router and the app is easy to understand. I like the fact that I can do the WPS set-up through the app instead of having to go back and forth to the main router.

I live in 1900 renovated house with some parts having walls that are around 40 in thick and in 4 story layout. I have been using Amplifi for 3 weeks, and the system is a Major improvement to the Netgear Nighthawk router with extenders that I was using.
The setup and the app are great and also the app user interface that allows to see what device is connected and consuming data is awesome.
The only con i can think of is that the promo says it can cover 20,000sq ft. With the combo including the box and two antennas I doubt it, since the antennas I am using are barely getting 50-60% connectivity to the box (one of them one floor below directly beneath and the other One floor above about 200 feet away). According to specs 50-60% levels its good enough and I am getting good coverage with those levels ( my house is aprox 4900sq feet but with thick walls) . Nonetheless, I don't think it will get the 20,000sq feet range just with the box and 2 antennas, probably by adding additional antennas.
Regardless, I am really happy with the purchase, and would buy it again, and am considering adding a new mesh point to cover an area of the house I hadn't even considered possible before.

I replaced a Netgear Orbi system with this one based on positive reviews on this site and other places. The installation in my three-floor house went smoothly, although I had to place the satellite farthest (bottom floor) from the base unit in several different places before I could get a solid signal that would not require a relay (slowest) configuration. Still, the speed at the base unit, located on the top floor where the cable is available, measures at 235Mbps (great), but the two satellites measure about 60-70 Mbps. This is fast enough for most applications, but I feel I'm not getting the bandwidth I'm paying for throughout my house. The app shows both satellites are connected directly to the base unit, and are not operating in relay mode. This tells me that there is significant falloff in throughput, particularly on the bottom floor, due to the signal having to penetrate two floors. Both satellites show full strength on their LED displays.
Aside from this, the system has been rock solid with respect to connectivity, other than one time where I had to reset the cable modem to get this network running again. This may have been related to Comcast upping their network speed from 200 to 250Mbps, which I learned from an unrelated email they had sent a few days before, or maybe it was just a random cable modem hangup.
Appearance-wise, the satellites are unobtrusive because they plug into AC outlets and tend to disappear in the room, especially if furniture obscures them. The system is pretty much a "set it and forget it" design. I'm surprised it doesn't get more press attention in whole-house wifi roundup reviews, as it seems to be well designed and reliable.
Other than the speed reductions I'm seeing farther away from the base unit, I'm quite happy with this system.

I have purchased 2 of these devices and have set them up easily. That is the one thing I love about this device, ease of setup when you use the app. The base and range extenders work excellent. I used to have buffering issues or 2-3 bars of signal on wifi... but now I have full bars anywhere in my house. Highly recommend.
