Ultra Q is actually the first show in what would become the Ultraman media franchise, although the titular character wasn't invented yet. The series follows a group of investigators around Japan who are researching strange goings-on and monsters, many of whom would reappear in later shows. Mill Creek's disc has surprisingly sharp image quality; the show looks far better than it has the right to. As far as older black-and-white Blu-ray Discs go, this is one of the best looking I've seen. Plus there's a booket included with an episode guide, character guide, monster guide, and more. My only real complaints are that the casing has stacked discs, and that there's no on-disc bonus content. Highly recommended.

I always wrote these off as being Japanese Anime for some reason (to my own ignorance). Didn't realize that these were the original inspirations for shows like Mighty Morphin Power Rangers. I would say that if you like TOHO era Godzilla, and the original Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, then give the Ultraman series a try! Some of these have different spin-offs of the original Q series through the course of the 60s-90s. And I believe they're still making them. Enjoyable! Recommend!

The series is Kaiju X-Files, the start of the Ultra series. Problem is, less than half are good watches. Steelbook is nice, but the extras are nil

Many say this is the equivalent of the twilight zone but is more along the lines of the 60s outer limits with its monster of week premise. Even the few episodes don’t have monsters are weird in themselves and provide a surreal atmosphere. Not for everyone’s taste as some episodes aim toward kids some toward older crowd as you’ll see creatures (as well as cast members) that would go on to greater things in the ultraman series that would follow. Great hd clean up by millcreek really brings the black & white cinematography to new life.

Classic Japanese Kaiju series preceeding Ultraman!

This is the TV series that started it all... Ultra Q was the TV series produced by the same studio that gave life to the multitude of Ultraman series and movies. It's a certifiable classic example of TV kaiju shows and started the entire trend. Without this series there probably wouldn't be any such shows today (i.e. all of the Power Ranger shows and others of the same genre). It's definitely a must have for any classic Sci-Fi/Kaiju fans out there.

Amazing show. The start if it all! Awesome transfer too as these episodes were filmed in 35mm and at the time, the most expensive television production. Plus if you don’t watch the Baron Spider episode during Halloween season what are you even doing?

Mill Creek knocked it out of the park with the Ultra series releases, especially the earlier series in the steelbooks. Although often compared to things like the Twilight Zone, much more monster of the week. If that is your thing, worth checking out. Also on Mill Creek is the more recent Neo Ultra Q, equally awesome.

This is a solid release of one of the most culturally important sci-fi/fantasy shows of all time! The impact the Ultra franchise has had on popular culture is enormous, and starting from the beginning is super fun.

Think of the X-Files, mixed with Kaiju and that's basically the premise of this show. Each episode is its own story dealing with some fantastical creature, and they're all great fun. Many episodes seem so far ahead of its time in terms of special effects; sure, all of the monsters are man-in-suit, but the work that was put into each episode is apparent. Recommended if you're a fan of giant monsters, sci-fi, and black and white television.

The very beginning of a Tokusatsu legend! Many have described Ultra Q as a Japanese Twilight Zone, I'd say I agree. Many love this series for it's wacky monsters and situations and many more for it being the beginning of the long running Ultraman series!

Compared to the regular release, the Steelbook is more compact, taking less shelf space. It comes with a clear plastic o-ring that goes around the Steelbook and a booklet. The booklet is not inside the Steelbook itself. The blu rays are stacked. At first it may be hard to remove the blu rays. I needed to squeeze together the 'teeth' that hold the discs in place a few times. It's then much easier to get the blu rays out.
