||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. You kinda have to play this game in order to truely appreciate it. So for the sake of not giving away any spoilers to those who haven't played it yet, I'll just say, it's one of the best indie games you can get on Switch/Switch2!

Old School for Today
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. If you’re a fan of old school nes/snes games this will feel like a game from that era. I like that this game plays with the idea of morality in a unique way. I see why it’s often credited as one of the best games of all time.

Undertale- A Heartfelt and Unforgettable Adventure
||Posted . Owned for 10 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Introduction: Undertale, an indie RPG developed by Toby Fox, presents a truly unique and emotionally charged gaming experience. Combining clever gameplay mechanics, a captivating narrative, and memorable characters, this game has captured the hearts of players worldwide. With its thought-provoking themes, player choices that truly matter, and a remarkable soundtrack, Undertale stands as a testament to the power of indie gaming. Gameplay (9/10): Undertale offers a refreshing twist on traditional turn-based combat. Players have the option to engage in battles or take a more pacifist route, resolving conflicts through negotiation and mercy. This innovative "bullet hell" combat system keeps players on their toes, requiring both quick reflexes and strategic decision-making. Every encounter presents an opportunity to build relationships or test your resolve, offering a sense of agency rarely seen in RPGs. Story and Characters (10/10): The narrative of Undertale weaves a rich tapestry of themes, exploring topics like morality, friendship, and the consequences of one's actions. It tells the story of a child who falls into the Underground, a world inhabited by monsters, and their journey to find a way back home. The game presents a cast of diverse and endearing characters, each with their own quirks and motivations. Memorable figures like Sans, Papyrus, and Toriel leave a lasting impression, making the player's choices and interactions all the more impactful. Visuals and Sound (8/10): Visually, Undertale embraces a retro-inspired pixel art style that pays homage to classic RPGs. The charming character designs, expressive animations, and creative enemy encounters make the game visually appealing despite its simple aesthetics. However, the true standout is the game's soundtrack, composed by Toby Fox himself. The music perfectly captures the mood and atmosphere of each scene, with tracks that range from hauntingly beautiful to adrenaline-pumping, elevating the emotional impact of the game. Player Choices and Consequences (10/10): Undertale's most remarkable aspect is the way it handles player choices. Every decision made, whether in combat or during interactions, has consequences that ripple throughout the game. These choices extend beyond simple morality, affecting the story, characters' fates, and even subsequent playthroughs. The game encourages players to think critically, challenging preconceived notions and offering a profound sense of agency and responsibility. Replay Value (9/10): Undertale boasts exceptional replay value due to its branching paths and multiple endings. Exploring different playstyles, making different choices, and experiencing the consequences firsthand provide a fresh perspective on the game's narrative and characters. Each playthrough unravels new layers of the story, ensuring that even after completing the game once, there is still more to discover and contemplate. Conclusion: Undertale is a masterpiece that defies conventions, delivering an emotionally charged and thought-provoking experience. Its innovative gameplay mechanics, impactful storytelling, and unforgettable characters create a narrative journey that resonates deeply with players. The game's ability to challenge players' moral compasses and question the nature of choice sets it apart as a truly unique gem in the RPG genre. Whether you seek engaging gameplay, profound storytelling, or an exploration of the human condition, Undertale is an absolute must-play that will leave an indelible mark on your gaming journey.

The Gold Standard for Indie Games
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Undertale stands out to me as the first indie game I ever went out of my way to buy. I initially bought it digitally via its original Steam release and fell in love with it to the point that I bought the Collector's Editions on PS4 and PS Vita. That would make this the 4th time I've purchased this game and have no regrets in doing so. The story isn't grand in scale, instead being a more personal tale with far reaching implications but if you're a frequent player of RPG's wherein the climax revolves around saving the universe as we know it then this is a breath of fresh air. Gameplay consists of turn-based combat like RPG's of yesteryear but the twist is that in battles you are given the option of decimating opponents like in most other games of this nature or of diffusing the situation without violence. If you choose the former, you must time your button presses to do the most damage but if you choose the latter you scroll through a small list of (often humorous) actions that will resolve the tension. When the enemy's turn comes, you're tasked with avoiding their attacks in a way that resembles old school arcade shoot-em-ups—meaning that you have to dodge every projectile that comes your way. This small twist on combat made gameplay all the more engaging. The cast of characters are easily some of the most colorful in recent years—each having distinct personalities that you will gravitate to. This is aided by spectacular writing that never ceases to entertain. Much of the dialogue is not only witty or humorous but it also plays on your expectations in such a way that it's always one step ahead of you. As a broad example, if you decide to go through a second playthrough there are many moments in which you may decide to approach certain scenarios differently in such a way that you think you're outsmarting the game... only for you to find out that an alternate dialogue conversation plays out and (by extension) it lets you know that it expected you to think you were going to outsmart it. Brilliant. The game is admittedly a bit short, but the experience is so memorable that it never feels that way. Graphically, it doesn't look like anything that AAA developers would put out but it has a unique art style that evokes the feeling that this was a passion project that was painstakingly put together. Lastly, the music is undeniably incredible. As someone who plays a lot of RPG's I can say that this is easily the best soundtrack I've heard since Final Fantasy VII was released way back in 1997. It blends many styles together and uses many different sound fonts to great effect. The end result is music that is infectious even at its most daunting moments and emotionally resonant whenever it needs to be. Seriously, this game is worth it for the soundtrack alone. If you have the funds to buy the soundtrack CD it comes highly recommended. Overall: 10/10

I was surprised. Worth the purchase
||Posted . Owned for 1 year when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is a great game. I bought it for a child as a gift. She has played through it 50 some odd times. I asked her why and she showed me. This game is very deep from what it is. Old school gaming feel with so many different endings. But thats not all, there are different play styles also like passive or aggressive. The characters are pretty funny and entertaining.
