When you think you're going to watch a underwater version of Alien, but in fact it's more H.P. Lovecraft. I have to admit, I was pleasantly surprised by this one, even more appreciative after watching the special features and how they created the FX for the underwater (no pun intended) scenes. Also: I am not familiar with Kristen Stewart and her work before this, but she impressed me.

Underwater deserved better marketing than it received, and a better release than the theatrical dumping ground that is January. While following a fairly tried-and-true plot and offering nothing really 'new' for the genre, Underwater stands on its own due to fantastic production design and cool creatures, with an overall solid cast (Kristen Stewart and Vincent Cassel always tend to deliver). The presentation on bluray is as good as we can expect from the format, although with as dark as this film is, we would certainly have benefited from a 4K HDR release.

A solid Alien/The Abyss mashup. At 95 minutes, it wastes no time diving right into the crisis, but doesn't feel rushed in the process. Between a handful of claustrophobic stretches and sparse jump-scares, it also refreshingly boasts a sense of humor that serves to reinforce the tension rather than defuse it. And may I say, Kristen Stewart really rocks the buzzcut look.

    An underwater version of "Alien"

Overall I thought this was a pretty good film. It reminded me of an underwater version of "Alien." Even the first glimpse of a baby alien looks just like the one from "Alien". The special effects are, for the most part, pretty awesome. There are great characters and lots of suspense, surprises, chills and action (definitely not suitable for children under the age of 15).

This film took me by surprise when I saw it in theaters. It won't blow your mind but at the same time this film knows exactly what it is and who its audience is and from that perspective it delivers some fun monster mayhem. If you enjoy underwater monster films then look no further.

Not a bad sci-fi horror film. The title is so dumb, it would probably have done better at the box office with a more catchy title. It's not going to break any new ground in the genre, but it's a real movie with good effects, not a Netflix or Prime, made for TV, horror flick. Has a good cast and the action starts pretty fast.

Not comparable to "The Abyss" but was generally good for the action, The backgrounds were to filled with destroyed drill stuff. Sometimes it was hard to see what the characters were doing when they were underwater. Not sure if I liked the concept of the monsters. Meaning the type. Didn't think a big "Mommy" monster was needed. Writing?

It's a solid sci-fi movie. You can tell the director cares about their craft. The setting of the movie is of course underwater, so don't expect the movie to ever get bright in terms of colors and sunlight. I'd consider this movie a popcorn flick. Nothing too crazy, but also not terrible. Buy it if you can!

Underwater isn't necessarily a unique approach to the time honored underwater horror movie, but it does have some unique elements to it. Humor, a completely unexpected ending sequence are just a few. Then there is the cast. First rate actors with believable dialogue and emotional reactions. A movie you can watch multiple times, even though you know what's coming. That's the definition of a good movie.

Underwater is good though it could have been great. It is a tense, fun movie with wonderful design work. The interiors and equipment really look amazing. It also wastes no time getting moving. The cast is good enough though the characters are mostly threadbare. Stewart is a strong enough lead but Jessica Henwick is the true standout Carrying the emotional load. One of the biggest issues is that scenes just kind of slam into each other with no transitions. They just happen and it can be jarring. Smooth that out and it’ll all flow better. Underwater wears its influences on its sleeve so much that it doesn’t feel like it has an identity but that doesn’t keep it from being an engaging viewing experience.

This was a very underrated flick. It deserves to be among some of the great mysterious undersea suspense movies. The cast was excellent even if your not very fond of the Twilight Saga queen. Well written with a great ending. Don't let this one pass you by.

I remember seeing the previews of this movie when it was in theaters and did not give it much thought. I am not crazy about Kristen Stewart. But the movie is not bad. It was not as I expected. Nice thriller movie with a tiny bit of comedy.

This seems a little like Sigourney Weaver in Alien except underwater. Good Effects, jump scares and dealing with being alone under the sea. Watch the bonus feature where the stuffed bunny is replaced!

Of the few films released in 2020, this is an underrated monster flick, with quite the creatures and a solid setup, great atmosphere, with a pretty weak ending. A fine late night watch

This is a great movie if you like survival horror, trapped at the bottom of the ocean the crew of the drilling platform must face horrors man was never meant to see. It is a great movie connected to a great horror genre but I don't want to ruin the surprise, trust me if you like horror you will like this movie.

This movie starts out intense and keeps you on the edge of your seat throughout! I love T. J. Miller as the comic relief, l love him in every movie of his I've seen. And (spoiler alert) seeing Kristen Stewart, who I also happen to love, getting to be the hero and playing a strong character was truly awesome.

Good underwater monster movie. It's been 30 years since we've had a movie like this back in late 80s, 90s but Abyss, Leviathen and Deep Star 6 will always be the great under water movies!
