Almost perfect, but not for 16"

The stand technically fits a 16", but it would be better to make an XXL version in addition.
When you slide a 16" under, it scrapes against the side of the stand. I haven't noticed any degradation but over time, I expect that to change. It would be nice if it were an inch wider. Satechi could've also made the USB-C cable removable so that we can change the length of the cable, or replace it if it gets damaged.
I am leaving it as 4/5 because it is recommended for the 16" but the size is too tight, and I think that is an oversight. A detachable cable would be nice, but I purchased knowing that it was static.
Another issue is that when you plug in headphones, there is a loud pop that is incredible painful depending on what headphones you are wearing. This is not a sound that you hear when plugging into the MacBook directly. However, this is something that is not inconvenient as it only takes a moment of mindfulness to ensure you are not wearing the headphones.
They should re-release this product with a removable cable, wider chassis (this is ideal for 14" MBP 2021, not 16" due to how it scrapes), and with TB4 capabilities. It was almost perfect, but I find that I may return this unit for something else, as I don't feel comfortable with the two machined aluminum counterparts grinding every time I remove it from docked.
100% recommend if you just need quick front ports and a quality riser, but if you have a 16" MBP and/or need faster ports, keep looking.

This durable monitor stand added IO to a MacBook Air with limited IO. I’ve purchased less equipped stands at a higher price and get the quality I’ve come to expect from Satechi.

Almost Perfect Hub For My Needs

I originally purchased Satechi's smaller hub that perfectly fits beneath the 2018 Mac Mini but ended up returning it as I was worried about the temperature increase while using it. I had this Monitor Stand Hub in my cart for about a week (trying to decide if I really wanted to pay the extra $) and one day I noticed they had a very good price drop so I bought it. Very happy with this hub - very nice looks and the additional ports are great. The only improvement would be to have the ports actually charge the devices that are plugged into them - that would give this a perfect 5-star rating.

This little stand does exactly as it is advertised it does. You can hook it up to your computer with a USB-C. But it is important to note that not all computers are USB-C compatible. The stand is only a couple inches tall and pretty wide. The cord is wrapped up neatly underneath and is actually much longer than I expected. The front has a panel with all the hook ups you could dream of. SD card reader, micro-sd card reader and a few USB plugs. The stand looks sleek and is the perfect width for my monitor. I do feel like it is a little too short and wish it was an inch taller. One of my laptops fits neatly underneath. I have a little bit older laptop at my house that will not fit underneath the stand. There are also little black rubber/plastic pieces to hold the laptop in place. I would definitely recommend this USB-c stand for anyone looking to add to their USB numbers. It also helps to have the extra space to use for filing or hide post-it notes under. It's perfect for home or the office!

Well Made, Looks Great, Works Well

There is a lot to like about this combo monitor stand and hub. It will work well for most people, as long as you understand its limitations. Specifically, that it has no video output capability so using it in a multiple display application will require an additional hub and a computer with enough additional USB-C ports.
The stand is beautifully crafted from aluminum and offers an attractive and refined look. The space under the stand can accommodate a compact laptop, but laptops with a larger profile will not fit. My 13-inch Dell XPS 13 fit under it without any problem. The stand should be able to support all but the largest of monitors.
Mounted under the stand is the hub and a USB-C cable that connects the hub to the computer. There is a nicely designed cable management array with clips that allows the cable to be neatly tucked away. The front of the hub offers 5 different expansion ports (USB-C, 2 USB-A, 2 memory card, and a standard headphone Jack). The USB ports are data only and do not have the Power Delivery capability needed for charging devices.
The expansion ports all worked flawlessly, and the hub itself is fully plug and play compatible. Windows automatically downloaded the drivers and configured the hub for use.
As for the limitations: If your setup consists of more than one monitor, then you will need a separate hub or docking station with video outputs because this hub does not have them. This can be a problem because some laptops do not have many fully functional USB-C ports. More and more laptops are adding multiple USB-C ports, but if you are using one to power your laptop, than that might leave only one extra USB-C port for connecting other devices like this monitor stand. If your laptop has enough USB-C ports than this will not be a problem. Likewise, more and more monitors are starting to add USB-C ports so that is another possible alternative.
I can recommend this monitor stand and hub for single monitor applications, or if your PC has enough functional USB-C ports to support another hub. The stand itself is very well constructed and looks very sharp supporting a skinny PC monitor.

I Just opened up the Satechi USB-c monitor stand hub and found the stand and an attached cable with a USB-c plug on the end. Also included was a user’s guide and a bunch of Styrofoam.
I set it up with my Dell laptop and I’m trying to see why I need this. I get if I attach a monitor to my laptop, this makes it convenient to place the laptop underneath and the monitor on the stand, but what else. I have a couple of Thunderbird hubs and they offer more ports than this does, so… First thing I notice is the USB/c port isn’t a power port. The Dell I’m using only has one USB/c port and it uses that for charging. I have to charge my laptop and then pull the charger so I can test out the Satechi stand. If I were using the setup for a long time, that would present a problem not being able to keep the laptop on 110v power. My other con is all my current monitors use HDMI, Display, DVI, or VGA ports. I searched to see if the latest monitors use USB/c, but I didn’t get a clear answer. I saw some monitors with USB/c, but I’m not sure that handles video and audio. Anyway, enough of my negatives, what’s good about the stand.
I like the size, it’s not too big and not too small. Setting my fourteen” Dell on top it just hangs off the back edge. Placing it underneath the stand and it fits nicely. I evaluated a Dell 24” monitor on top and it too fit very well. I tested out all the USB/A ports, the SD and microSD slots and they all worked nicely. The MicroSD slot was a bit hard to lock and remove, but once in, it performed well. And the USB/A slots were able to read an old LEGO USB stick that none of my other PCs would. It’s one of those thin slide-out connectors and they never did work well. But placing it in the Satechi, it was snug and read with no issues.
So, I guess if I wanted to use a monitor with a laptop and I had one that had a separate USB/c or power port, it would be great. I have two desktops running, so in my case, I don’t need a laptop/desktop setup. I can see how some would be on a budget or limited space. If so, this would make a nice little setup when you need it. My opinion would be to use a Thunderbird hub if your machine can use one or just a regular hub.

USB-C Monitor Stand Hub

The Satechi USB-C Monitor Stand is sleek and elegant. This stand will blend in nicely on any desk. There is enough room for a smaller laptop under the stand. The stand plugs into an existing USB-C port on your device. The stand offers the following expansion ports.
1 USB-C (Female)
2 USB 3.0 ports
1 SD card port
1 Micro SD card port
1 UHS-1 port
1 3.5MM Audio Jack.
Once the device was installed, I was able to plug in my 2T external hard drive. I was also able to utilize my thumb drives and I also use a Micro SD card to transfer data between the computer and 3d printers with out having to turn the tower around to get to the Micro SD slot on the back. This saved a lot of time. I was also able to download my pictures from a SD card quicker than plugging the card into the back of the computer. There was a note online stating you could not read a Micro SD and a SD card at the same time.
The increased height in the monitor reduced the need to prop it up on books. Thus, eliminating neck strain. I found that I had less back pain after putting the monitor on the stand.

Stylish look with convenient expansion ports

Stylish option for those using an all-in-one or notebook that are looking to elevate one’s monitor a bit and acquire expansion ports at the same time. I like the brushed aluminum material that nicely compliments so many other devices and the smooth curves are nice and lend a polished look. Even the USB-C cable that connects the Hub to your computer has a nice storage design under the Hub where one can use clips to hold excess length of cable or complete cable storage if the Hub is not in use. There is a small LED power indicator that is very muted in my opinion, but at least it is not annoying.
The size is nice for most standard laptops, but likely not going to work for a gaming laptop when it comes to laptop storage under the monitor stand. Expansion ports include 3 USB type-A ports (up to 5Ggbps), 1 USB type-C (up to 5Gbps), both SD and micro-SD card slots and a 3.5mm audio port. This provides convenient access to plug in headphones, or other devices utilizing these ports. Video output is not supported, but for those looking for data only you’re set.
For those that have a setup requiring only one monitor then this Satechi USB-C Monitor Stand Hub XL is a good-looking, well-built option. If you’re limited on ports or want a more convenient option to access them this Hub will do the job nicely.

I have mixed feelings on the Satechi - USB-C Monitor Stand Hub XL. On one hand, it is well made and looks great. On the other hand, the ST-UCSHXLM fall short in several key areas that makes it impossible to recommend. In review:
Pros –
Great fit and finish, a polished refined design that could pass for an Apple product.
Three four USB ports, micro-SD and SD card readers and 3.5 mm audio jack.
Does not require separate power.
Cons –
Of the 4 ports, three are USB A. and one USB C. A better design would have had two and two.
Ports in front only
No height adjustment.
No HDMI
Since it is self-powered, there is no charging (officially -your mileage may vary.)
Way, way overpriced.
This is a nice stand and some of the cons could be overlooked if it was not for the eye watering price. If you compare this stand to competitors, there are comparable or better at half the price. Frankly, I cannot understand why Satechi priced it so high. If you go to the Satechi’s website , they have the standard size unit on sale for 1/3 the price. For this to be successful, Satechi needs to change up the ports, increase the height or put a height adjustment and reduce the price by a 1/3.

A decent stand, works as advertised

This is a decent monitor or laptop stand. Plug in your laptop or computer and you're ready to go - it was that easy to setup. It has a good amount of ports but sadly no ethernet or monitor connections.
The biggest drawback and the reason for the 4 stars and not 5 is its lack of charging capabilities. It does advertise this though, although it is just as much a drawback since it has all these ports but no ability to charge anything. You still need to do that from the computer.
I would have also liked to see an ethernet port for wired connections but understand those are less and less used nowadays except perhaps for gaming.
But you can use the SD card adapter as external storage too by simply plugging it into the stand and the stand into the computer. Overall, it works as advertised but would like to see an ethernet adapter port, a monitor/video connection and charging capabilities in a future product. But in the end it does make it easy to add multiple connections to any laptop with a USB-C port.

Functional Hub and Stand
|

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.
The Satechi USB-C Monitor Stand HUB XL is a functional hub and monitor or laptop stand. It includes connections for SD and micro SD cards, an audio jack port, 3 USB-A 3.0 ports, and a USB-C data port. None of the ports support power transfer and the included USB-C cable must be connected to an appropriate USB-C or Thunderbolt connection on your laptop or desktop to provide power to the hub.
The hub functions as advertised and provides useful connections for mice, keyboards, external drives, etc. The SD card slot is particularly useful since many laptops and desktops do not have SD card readers. There are no hdmi ports and the USB ports do not include power transfer which might be useful for charging devices like phones, tablets, etc.
In summary, the Satechi USB-C Monitor Stand HUB XL is a competent hub that simplifies cables arrangement and provides additional USB data ports. Because it requires power from a USB-C connection, I find it inconvenient for laptops that have 1 or 2 Thunderbolt connections and no other USB-C ports, since providing power to the hub takes up a Thunderbolt ports. You can probably get around this with a USB-C to USB-A cable converter. I recommend the Satechi USB-C Monitor Stand HUB XL if the above functionality meets your needs.

Quality item, lacking size/oomph to be a "hub XL"

Maybe I'm expecting something different out of a hub, but this particular offering from Satechi doesn't really fit the namesake it has been given.
If you are looking to have a monitor stand that can offer nominal expansion of nothing more than a mouse, keyboard, usb slots, etc etc...then this might very well be right up your alley. The materials used are all very nice, I will give it that. There feel of the stand itself it topnotch and the attention to detail (not that there is really much going on, but that which is going on is all very nice) is superb. But does that alone warrant the price? I do not think so.
The fact that my daily usage is more on the power-user side of things could very well be skewing my review, hence me pointing it out multiple times as of that last sentence, so please take this into consideration when looking at my rating and the points being made.
I run a keyboard with two USBs, a mouse, Streamdeck, macro keypad, two printers, headphones, and another couple peripherals at random via my workstation. The HUB "XL" was something I thought would be the perfect addition to act as a stand for my laptop or monitor as well as a hub to at least some of those aforementioned items. Between the placement of the plugs and the (lack of) power offered by the onboard power supply, there really isn't much it is currently doing for me aside from acting as a very nicely made stand.
Sure, I could completely reconfigure my desk and move a number of things to maybe make it more user-friendly, but that isn't what this is supposed to be offering. It is supposed to alleviate an issue(s), not create them.
And when I say "placement of the plugs" I am referring to the fact they are only on the front edge, not the rear. So, if you have the stand pushed up against say, the back of a keyboard, you are not able to access them. That all being the case, I was going to flip it around but the power cord for the hub itself comes out of the back, so you have to take that into consideration, too.
If you have only a laptop or monitor with a very small base (the base of my monitor does not fit on the platform) and do not have a bunch of peripherals, I could see this being a very useful piece of kit, ie students. Again, the quality of the materials is very nice. But, if you are looking for something to add to a pre-existing setup, likely not going to do much for you unless you ensure the measurements fall within the scope of what you have on hand.
Recommending it as it is beneficial to a specific user, docking a star due to the fact it serves a limited purpose given its size and configuration.

Ports, height, space, and organization acquired!

This Satechi USB-C stand is a must have if you have a MacBook or Mac. This cleanly gives me access to ports that would otherwise either be behind my Mac with all of the other wires adding to the tangled mess, or just non existent on my MacBook Pro since they only have the 4 USB-C connections. Data speed seems pretty fast transferring photos from micro SD cards and UHS-1 cards.
I like the couple inches higher it provides when using my MacBook. My posture is already bad enough so I’m hoping to lighten my neck strain. The height also makes it perfect to sit next to my Mac so the bottom of the screens match up height wise when using both screens connected while editing photos or watching stocks while working on the Mac. It very much completes my apple command center.
Build quality seems good. It’s a solid aluminum. The connection ports seem to smoothly secure.
For me, this really helps solve several ongoing problems, including my poor posture, organization on my desk, lack of diversity of connections on the MacBook Pro while providing ease of access to those needed ports, AND it creates extra space on my small desk because I can store papers and such beneath it.
Definitely can recommend this!

Attractive Look with A Major Downside

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.
I would usually start with how hard or easy it was to set up, but this stand is just plug and play. Interestingly, the aluminum body matches my laptop perfectly. Sturdy and smudge-proof, it exceeded my expectations in that regard.
As to functionality, it does add three USB-A ports, two card readers, an audio, and a USB-C port, which is just giving it back the one used to connect it to your laptop. All the ports are USB 3.1, which are fast enough for most modern peripherals at speeds of 5 Gbps.
Fortunately, my laptop has two USB-C ports. One I use to charge it and the other to connect compatible peripherals such as this stand. I got no extra USB-C ports, and if my laptop had only one, the Satechi Monitor Stand would become useless every time I needed to charge the battery. It would have been better if the stand would connect directly to power and provide a USB-C to charge the laptop and/or other peripherals. And while at it, add an HDMI or DP port for a second monitor, especially because it doesn’t support USB-C monitors either.
I was looking for something similar, as I need more ports, but the limitations mentioned here are enough to make me feel disappointed. I realize that more than a stand with some ports, I need flexibility. This stand can’t give that to me.
If I were to rate the body construction only, I would give it five stars, not only for its sturdiness, but also for his sleek design. But overall, I can’t honestly give it more than three stars, keeping in mind that it does add some fast USB-A ports, and card readers for those whose laptop doesn’t come with one already.
