    The perfect beginner's RPG

So many modern RPGs are bloated with mechanics that add depth but also increase the game's learning curve. Valkyrie Elysium harkens back to classic RPGs like The Secret of Mana with simple but fun gameplay and enough variety to allow different play styles without the bloat. I would say this is a perfect game for anyone just starting to get into RPGs. This game also runs great on the PS5 and looks beautiful. The graphics might not be comparable to something like FFVII Remake but its framerate never slows down when the on-screen action gets heated, and Valkyrie Elysium has a ton of heated battles. The boss battles, especially are fun and the boss designs are just cool to look at. I'm very happy with this purchase.

This is my first Valkyrie games. I picked it up after playing through the demo. The story is campy which isn’t entirely a bad thing. How ever it is the combat and gameplay that will keep you hooked.

I have always been in love with the series. I played Valkyrie Profile on PS1 when it came out and it was love at first sight. Years later I played Silmeria on PS2 and finally Lenneth again on PSP. This title was something I have been waiting for 14 years and it does deliver in many aspects. I completed it and even got platinum, but I have to admit that it fell short in some areas such as most maps feeling quite empty and some of the choices when fighting feeling a little off. For example, you are supposed to use the element to which an enemy is weak against, but you can only place 4 attacks in your diamond menu, which is fine because most of the time you fight your regular fire, ice, holy, and lightning enemies. However, every once in a blue moon you may need to use darkness or earth and so you have to go into your menu to equip it. This breaks the flow of the fight, which is one of the aspects I really like, Valkyrie moves with such fluidity that having to break that flow sucks the fun out of the fight. Some games circumvent that by adding a second window which you activate with a combination of bottoms on the fly, NIOH for example. Going back to areas feeling empty, if you had the chance of playing Valkyrie Profile you may see how Elysium is similar to that game, however, that was a 2D side-scroller game and for the time that was ok. I think the fact that this is 3D with a hint of cell shading makes it weird to go through entire areas without any substance, you will find hordes of enemies here and there, but the rest is empty. Lastly, since the areas are quite large, most of the time you have to look at the map to see where you are and where you need to go, which is such a bummer because you have to go into the menu every time you need to check something. Adding a mini map, on screen, would have remedy that because you do need to check that map quite often, especially if you are looking to get every collectible in the game. I think this was a miss opportunity for providing more characters and more content regarding Midgard, the game felt rushed, incomplete. I still enjoyed it, and I am grateful that this game exists and hope that if another title is made, they add more content to the world.

Finally a new game from the Valkyrie series is released! There are a whole bunch of new characters this time around, but if Elysium is successful, they'll consider bringing back old favorites or remake older games! The gameplay is pretty fun, but some things could be added to improve the experience, such as a minimap of sorts. The open-ness of the world is alright, but the side-scrolling gameplay from Silmeria was better, I think. The graphics are ok, but are much improved when compared to the very first teaser that they released way back.

First of all, the cover art (which is reversible) and the steel-book are absolutely gorgeous. Square Enix design at its finest. More importantly, the game is pretty darn good, despite what reviews say. Gameplay and combat gets deeper as the story progresses and you unlock and develop your weapons. Pulling off combos and eliminating hordes of enemies is so satisfying. While the main character is a bit dry at first, her personality develops quite well. The supporting cast is really likable too. The campaign is a perfect length and doesn't overstay its welcome. I recommend it.

This is not like the classic style RPG as all the previous Valkyrie games in the past. It is the next step evolution into next gen RPG's. The graphic aesthetic is a mixture of real backgrounds against colorful NPC's give it a distinct look amongst other action RPG's. Combat feels heavy since you can't cancel an action mid-move, but the action is fast past and quick moving keeping it less than boring. Multiple endings means multiple playthroughs to get the full complete ending.

This game does a good job mixing action and rpg elements. The story feels kinda vague so far but its interesting. A gem in this year of games.

I’ve been itching for a hack-n-slash. This game scratches the itch but it’s all in all it’s disappointing. The enemies are all basically the same repeating characters with varying “weaknesses” and i never once felt truly threatened by the boss fights. The graphics look very PS3 era and are drab and uninspired, which melds well with the very “meh” story.

Valkyrie Elysium seeks to bring the Valkyrie franchise into the modern generation with a lukewarm entry. Everything about the game is fine from the voice acting to the soundtrack and performance. The story is forgettable and towards the end I was hitting buttons ready for it to be over.

First time playing the Valkyrie series and this is the first action game. I love the gameplay and the game overall. Just playing the game, I can see it didn't have AAA budget. This games potential would have been even better with it.

this game has renewed my love for my ps5. i was very enthralled with the jrpgs valkyrie profile 1 & 2. while this is different than those titles, it's still a worthy entry in this series, cool story and phenomenal looks. elysium's gameplay is linear progression hack n' slash, requiring you to manually summon your ghost warrior followers to help you fight monsters. the visuals are pretty and really drive home the whole romantic nordic knight/crusader vibe that captured my heart with valkyrie profile 1 & 2. i thought i'd made a mistake starting on normal mode bc i made quick work of the tutorial and fist two levels, but don't worry; you soon get a nice, fast-paced action-packed challenge to keep you entertained for hours. overall, the gameplay is familiar and inviting (beat monsters, acquire party members, level up stats and weapons); but not so much that it feels like a re-hash of a bunch of other games you may have played before. really recommend you get this game, i think you'll have a blast! my hope is that they'll port the older entries in this series to modern systems- more people deserve to play quality games like these! ♡

Very fun game if not a bit lacking in story. The battle and systems in place are great and make this worth playing alone. There isn't a strong focus in the story and you'll notice clichés but it's a quality title regardless.
