First let me clarify that I love all things vampire related. I was excited about this game when I heard of it but the gameplay itself is a bit meh. The controls need work, you're a vampire who can't jump, climb, etc. The game essentially penalizes you for doing what vampires do, feed on people! If you kill too many people for that oh so juicy XP then that city area destabilizes and becomes a hot mess for things that crawl in the night. Using XP on powers is pretty cool, but again...you're a vampire so why am I wasting time on hacking away people with a saw, knife, handgun, etc. The characters you meet are interesting but overall this game needs some work.

I am enjoying progressing the story to see what unfolds in Dr. Reid's unlife.
The game is a combination of dialogue driven interactions, finding collectables, and basic combat. You can opt out of some or skip to rush through most if you'd prefer.
There are ways to make the game easier or harder by feeding or not, waiting longer to level up, and upgrading powers and weapons. There is one (autosave) game per playthrough, but dying means regeneration to try again (but at cost of supplies).
Ultimately this seems to be a game of reasonable length that I will be playing again to try for different outcomes. I read online about 15 hour storyline but 20-30 to really explore; with replay value I think it's worth the cost.

- Poorly optimized
- Pop-ins galore
- Static camera during dialogue
- Extremely dialogue heavy
- Clunky combat
+ Great musical score
+ Time period/setting
+ Good voice acting
+ Upgrading/crafting
+ Vampires!
All in all just know what you’re getting into.
Oh, and by the way what’s up with nobody saying anything about Jonathan Reid’s face looking like complete death?

The game was fun, although tedious at times. There is no fast travel which results in repetitive gameplay, which is sub-par. There were many times where I wished I could just skip it to get to the excellent dialogue and storytelling. The game does an excellent job at changing according to your decisions. Consuming certain individuals will grant you greater rewards at the risk of compromising the civilians. It's a unique experience but the underwhelming fighting mechanics need to be acknowledged.

Good story and good graphically. Some little repetitiveness in some parts but in a good way. Just have to go in open minded

I was a little hesitant at buying this game, but DontNod did an excellent job with the gameplay and story in this game.

Things I like: The combat is fun, and special powers were impressive. Enemy variety is kinda standard, but has enough variety to not be completely boring. The whole investigation side of things where you figure out stuff about people and the city is a neat idea, and pretty well implemented. Characters are very well developed, and generally interesting to get to know. Taken all together, the game play is good and the setting feels alive. The idea of wanting to save everyone, but needing to kill people in order to be strong enough to save them in the first place, is well implemented.
Things I don't like: Animations during conversations are stiff, and all the dialogue and voice acting feels like it's pulled straight out of a soap opera. It's... not great. It's especially jarring when conversations are such a major part of the game, and you have to suffer through them because everything around them is honestly really cool. Oh, and the romance arc feels force and rushed, but that's par for the course when it comes to video games anyways.
This game satisfied my RPG fix til Dragon Quest XI came out. If they had more time to develop the graphics or more of a budget, DONTNOD would've rivaled or topped the later entries of the Castlevania PS3 series in my opinion. The story and setting was certainly on point.

This game feels like the sort of mid budget games we used to get all of the time over a decade ago. It's not the best looking game out there but it has some clever ideas like every NPC having their own traits and personalities. You play as a "good" vampire and you gain xp mostly through killing civilians if you choose to. But each person you kill lowers the safety rating of the district so you have to be careful about removing people.

There aren’t words to describe how much I LOVE this game - just finished it for the first time and will be playing again to try for alternate endings and other trophies. Only negatives are a few glitches and long loading times but this game is WELL worth dealing with those issues. It is THE DIAMOND in the rough, if you do not play this you will never know such true cinematic gaming exist in what a beautiful yet horrifying style! I don’t know how they went wrong in marketing on this one but more people should know about this masterpiece! I highly recommend it. Go buy it now, you won’t see *daylight* again for days - what are you waiting for?!?

Went into this game with low expectations. Never really heard of the company that crafted this gem, but being the vampire enthusiast I am I wanted to believe that this game would entertain my guilty pleasure...Boy did my gamble pay off. Great story mode that actually has consequences especially end game pertaining to the choices made during gameplay. Decent graphics aren’t your enemy here, but a mildly seasoned combat system would be the weakest link. Perfect score since I didn’t expect much, but got a bang for my buck by purchasing this game at a discounted price. Worth it if you can snag for $40 or under.
