i liked it very much. don't know much about her, except she was dour and not amused. not sure if this is historically accurate, but it's interesting to see how so one becomes queen at such a young age, how you handle it, all the people around you w/agendas. loved the chemistry between her and melbourne. what if, but oc can't. then all the chauvinism. how do you handle that? condescension. once she marries, i think albert took control. but good to see her relating to / caring for her female servants, etc. have to take it w/grain of salt, but fine viewing. how do women get through their times? even now, tough for women. we have brains and abilities.

We love PBS/Masterpiece programming and Victoria didn’t disappoint us! Watching the weekly episode has become a ritual for my son and I (you read that correctly... Even teenaged son is a regular: it’s THAT GOOD!!!). We pretty much inhale it the first time around than go back later in the week to watch it again and savour the details.

i'd seen this on pbs and loved the chemistry between jenna coleman & rufus sewell. don't know how accurate historically it is, but just loved the romance between Victoria and Melbourne. the restraint, the positions they were in, so doomed. I loved the way he would step in to help her, the spark, the flowers, etc. there isn't that much chemistry between Victoria & Albert, who are supposed to be very much in love w/each other. it may be that I just think rufus sewell is hot. but I bought the dvd just coz I loved jenna & rufus together, the other stories going on, Victoria is interesting, being thrust so young as queen, the whole experience she must have gone through. she's self assured & was amused this first season. great dvd to watch on a weekend afternoon when you want something romantic and fragile, & a bit tragic. was jolting the switch to albert, but that's the way it was.

I have several movie versions regarding the life of Queen Victoria and Albert. So I was very excited to see PBS Masterpiece doing this series. As soon as I was able I purchased this as I had missed a number of the episodes on Sunday nights. So I already knew I would love the series. Jenna Coleman Sewell is wonderful as Victoria - I look forward to seeing more of her. Rufus Sewell was very good as Lord Melbourne - I have always enjoyed Sewell and was not disappointed. The surprise for me was Tom Hughes as Albert. I had never heard of him, but I will certainly be looking for him in the future. I found myself wrapped up in their very believable lives as portrayed by PBS Masterpiece. They always get an A+ from me for these types of series. I am really looking forward to the following 2 seasons to come! It can't be too soon for me.

Victoria: The Complete First Season dazzles as it constructs, establishes, and explores its characters and world. The era is richly realized, from costumes to locations, and the performances are first-rate. The show may not engage audiences looking for violence, but for viewers fascinated by the era and characters Victoria impresses on all fronts and leaves audiences eager for season two. PBS' Blu-ray boasts good, if not occasionally troubled, video, a quality lossless soundtrack, and several interesting and basically supportive supplements. Highly recommended.

I have always been fascinated with the Royals, and Queen Victoria is right up there with the very best. SEASON ONE proves to capture Victoria's first experiences as a young queen and what she endured and had to muster through all the politics and protocol of the era. It's a wonderful retelling of a young woman who takes charge, relished and grew strong in her independence, and became one of the most enduring women in history. I cannot wait to see the subsequent series and learn more about this great lady.

I thoroughly enjoyed this series. Historically accurate with a touch of extra drama thrown in. Jenna Coleman, playing the young queen, is perfect in her role. Rufus Sewell is wonderfully perfect as Lord M, who, from the Queens's letters, she grew to have strong feelings for. I love Lord M and his and Victoria's complicated but loving and caring relationship. Beautiful costumes and sets, great storylines and wonderful cast. Love the show and highly recommend!!

    Great British series

As a British TV series, "Victoria" retains the British tradition of great acting and great visuals. It's not as subtle in character portrayal as "Downton Abbey," but it's close. It has more of a romantic flavor than "Downton Abbey" with the first season concerned mostly with the romantic inclinations of the young Queen Victoria, age 18 to about 21. Jenna Coleman as Victoria is youthful radiance. The second half of this first season portrays well the attraction, interaction and devotion between Victoria and her German husband Prince Albert. As a history lesson this first season shows how strong the German influence was on the British crown in the 1800s.

There are several reasons to like this production series: It has an extremely high production value. There is a very good character driven romance drama. There is an interesting presentation of pre WWI European politics. There is an exceptional portrayal of the beginning of the Industrial Revolution. I can't say enough good things about this series. Looking forward to the next season.

Although I did not especially enjoy history during my school days, I love it when it is told through interesting characters like British Queen Victoria and Prince Albert, played in this series by accomplished and very likable actors. The sets and costumes look authentic and help make this a very watchable program. I can't wait to see the next season, even though I know how the story will end.

I've seen some movies about Victoria's life but nothing of real substance. This is shaping up to be a great series with solid acting and the great costumes don't hurt. The series starts just as her uncle dies and she is next in line for the throne with her mother and confidant scheming, telling her what to do. You want to yell to Victoria " Just say no!!" Best Buy had this for $24.99!

    Very Good Period Piece

Victoria season one is a very good period piece. The writing, acting and direction are top rate. With the exception of a few things, like a character in one of the episodes that says to another character.."just sayin...", which should have been better written or at least edited out by the director, this was very good work. The other issues found are minor and would act as spoilers so I will not mention them here but they do not detract from the overall fine work done on this period piece.

First of all, I've been a huge fan of Jenna Coleman since she was on Dr. Who. While Victoria, by design, is extremely different from life on a TARDIS, Coleman shines in her role. The writers and actors do a great job keeping the audience engaged while taking small liberties on historical events.

This wonderfully acted series shows you the strength and conflicts of being a queen. You also see the young woman behind the throne, and the struggle to find balance between both. Gorgeous costumes, beautiful locations, and the always excellent, ( and sexy!!!) Rufus Sewell!!! A must watch!!!

Be prepared to be transported back to the 19th century; Britian has a young queen, who will rule for many decades. She will face many perils, yet she will endure and become vital in the anails of history as one of the greatest queens of all. The acting and costumes are suberb!

Just a well made, engaging series. BBC/PBS does an outstanding job on similar programs, and this is a prime example. Not sure how much fiction is mixed with fact, but the story is paced well and the character storylines are all interesting. Can't wait for season 2.

I enjoyed Downton Abbey so when this show came on PBS I thought I'd give it a shot. I immediately fell in love with it and bought the Blu Ray because I didn't want to wait to watch the rest of the season. It's frustrating that many of the good show on TV are British and run such short seasons. Maybe American TV should take a hint less quantity more quality! If you like historical dramas or you want to see how tough it was to be a young queen this show is for you
