I did a lot of price tracking and research online before this purchase. This TV got fantastic ratings across the board for the picture quality. Others that want to save a few hundred and not go with the big brands will be extremely happy with this tv.

If you are looking for picture quality above all else then this is the TV for you. You would have to go to OLED, for substantially more money, to get significantly better picture quality. With 32 zones of local dimming the contrast and black level are very good. It will decode HDR and Dolby Vision. There are four HDMI inputs but only input 1 is HDMI 2.0a, the rest are 1.4 which won't be a problem for many, but not all, 4K sources. The onscreen menu system works well enough and features the heavy hitters, Netflix, Vudu, Amazon, Hulu, along with some surprisingly useful lesser known apps. It's a bit slow and clunky but gets the job done and supplies plenty of 4K and HDR/Dolby Vision material. I use the Vizio SmartCast app on an iPhone 7 and it works extremely well, casting any of the many Chromecast enabled iOS apps to the TV. A virtual remote control is also part of the SmartCast app and works very well. It doesn't quite reach Apple TV levels of refinement and doesn't allow voice control, but it's not that far off. The dedicated remote is plastic and kind of cheap feeling and I would gladly pay a bit extra for backlighting for something designed for home theater use! Fortunately the app makes using the remote largely unnecessary but if you don't have an IOS or Android device or don't want to use it as a remote then a third party, backlit remote would be advised if you do a lot of darkened room viewing. All in all this set excels in the area I find most important, picture quality. It has all the essential ingredients. Everything else is just nits to be picked and any shortcomings are easily overcome with minimal effort. If you are going 4K and want HDR/Dolby Vision and local dimming and don't want to go all the way to OLED, I would definitely check this set out.

so we needed a new tv and black friday sales were upon us so we started looking around. i was all set to get a sony or samsung but the prices were still way too high for my budget. when i started to research other options, i found reviews on cnet etc talking about vizio M series and how they really are an amazing screen for the money. probably the best "bang for your buck" option out there other then TCL (which is only 55"). the image is great, and theres a lot of control over the picture including white balance options and individual color controls. if you want to keep it more basic, there's still a good control over brightness/contrast/sharp/tint/etc and the "calibrated" settings are actually really close to perfect already. I work in video production for a living and know my way around a good display and i can see the minor issues or details missing, but the long and the short of it is that most of us can't afford a QLED or OLED screen and just need something that does better then average and can give you an enjoyable viewing experience. the Vizio M series does that by far. The dimming panels work well despite having less sections then others and the HDR looks really good. these features really help pop the contrast and the blacks are crazy deep and the whites are vivid. 4K is nice, but most people won't notice that difference from 1080 but you will definitely notice the difference from SDR to HDR and that is what really counts. this screen does a great job in those aspects and a lot of professional reviewers have compared it to sony and samsung equivalent and found that in some scenarios the vizio actually performs better and usually can at least keep up.
so whats wrong with it? well to me, nothing really, but the top negatives I've heard from others is that it has no TV tuner (this isn't a deal breaker for most as a lot of people have a cable box or internet tv sources now). but no tv tuner could effect you but you could also buy an HD tuner for pretty cheap and you'd be set for over the air channels again.
the other complaint i see a lot is the HDMI ports. there are 4 but only HDMI 1 supports full HDMI 2.0. this wasn't a deal breaker for me because i can always get an HDMI hub and expand that out if i need to. this might not be something you want to do though, so keep that in mind.
the new smartcast is much better then last years attempt with the tablet remote and just casting everything. when it was first released, i heard the smartcast was not very good, juddery, and annoying. maybe they fixed that because i haven't had a lot of trouble with it and everything moves pretty smooth for me. its nice for less tech savy people to be able to just push the netflix button and everything turns on. ( i have a harmony hub and changed those buttons to also include turning on the stereo). the built in chromecast is also nice, especially if you are like us and have google home integration or google assistant on your phone. its nice to have a chromecast option without having to take up an HDMI slot.
overall, very happy with this tv and pleasantly surprised to see it keeps up with my high end displays. if you need a budget friendly tv, but don't want to lose out on picture quality, then go for a vizio M series.

I'd say this is the best TV you can get before going to OLED. While others might offer slight improvements the increased costs aren't worth it. If you go higher, go for REAL OLED, which for now is only LG. Samsung's isn't quite it and it's certainly not as good.
This TV has a lot going for it but there are some hitches. The local dimming creates a halo effect due to having too large of zones. So, instead of creating truly darker areas it ends up creating a distraction at time.
The rest of the specs hold up fairly well. Very clear picture and brilliant details, good black levels with or without local dimming. HDR looks amazing.
Outside of the halo with local dimming at times the only other thing that is slightly annoying about this TV is its settings and poor documentation one what the terms they use in the settings mean. Don't like the Soap Opera effect? Good luck guessing which setting it is without checking online.
As I said before you can't go wrong with this TV if you can't afford an LG OLED. You can compare the LG to Samsung's and you'll notice a huge difference. Heck, Samsung's fake OLED hype is barely any better than this TV.
So if you need a great bargain AAA, this is the one to get. Otherwise, save up for LG's OLED or wait for other companies to come out with REAL OLED models.

I was so happy to find a big screen with HDR at this price. Other reviews complain about the sound quality of the speakers but I use a sound bar so I wont ever hear the speakers on the TV. Another complaint was the wifi and the apps not working well. This is another non issue for me because I have a PS4 and laptop that i planned on hooking up to it anyway. So if you're just looking for a TV with a great picture quality then this is definitely for you. The colors are amazing and it comes with a bunch of options to allow for personal preference. And with 120hz, its not bad for gaming either.

This model was exactly what I was looking for...without having to pay a premium for features I didn't need or want, like a beefed up speaker system (I always run sound through my AVR home theater), nor an over the air tuner (FIOS DVR here), or a cheap tablet remote (iPhone in pocket anyway), or an extensive streaming apps menu (I have two streaming boxes already) Actually this set just got an update that provides a selection of major apps on-screen. Mainly what you're getting here is a display that has superb 4k video quality, and both HDR formats, and great upscaling from 1080P and 720P formats. The contrast, black level, and average brightness are the closest thing to OLED at under one third the price. Inputs are plenty. Set has a nice non-gaudy appearance. Stand went on real easily and is sturdy enough while providing enough height clearance for soundbars and most center channel speakers. I purchased it from BB during a Vizio sponsored sale, and honestly could not be happier with this set.

2 months in... I am very surprised and happy with my purchase of this TV. I did tons of research into all different brands and models of TVs before settling on this one. The price was right on point as well. I compared this to Sony, LG, Samsung, etc. and it holds it’s own against these brands. I have always bought Samsung or LG and paid a high price but they were always worth it. This tv has 4K and HDR and it brings my Xbox One X, DirecTV and Roku 4K to life. It is my first ever Vizio tv and I can say I am in love with it. Vizio did a masterful job and hit a price point that cannot be beat.

Great picture, looks very nice, easy to install on wall, and set up picture calibration. Smartcast works great! There is no TV tuner on this model that's why it's called a home theater display. I have only one issue with this display. The HDMI 1 port is the 2.2 and the ARC input. What the heck were you thinking Vizio?! If you want true 4k at 60fps you have to install your streaming device in HDMI 1. I have a Vizio soundbar that I use with ARC. I called customer support and they said ALL inputs support 4k,well thats a lie! 4k content isn't an option on Amazon, hulu, or netflix when plugged into HDMI 2,3,4. I only get 4k streaming when my Amazon fire TV is plugged into HDMI 1. To make it work I have to run an optical cable to my soundbar. They should disclose that in the specs! Overall great TV is your tech savvy enough to make it work!

I was coming from a Pioneer Elite plasma which I thought I would never have to replace. However I got the OLED bug and thought I had to have a new TV. I could not afford the high-end OLED so on a limited budget I went and looked at the Vizio's the LG's and the Sony's of the same price. Hands down the Vizio had the best picture for $999. It is light, thin, and easy to set up except for the ARC channel. I bought a new receiver because I thought the issue was a HDCP issue with my 2014 Pioneer Elite SC 85. I had to finally just hook up an optical audio cable to get the TV's smart apps to go through the receiver for surround sound. It has a bright, clear picture, and I am looking forward to new UHD content. I have only had it a week, but so far I love it!

This display has great picture quality! I bought this tv in anticipation of the xbox one x and let me tell you it does not dissapoint. Bright colors, dark blacks, just beautiful picture quality. Ive been gaming and the graphics look gorgeous to the point that my wife thought i was watching a movie during a cut scene from COD WW2. Movies look stunning as well. Best part is the value compared to other mid-range tvs of higher end brands. It performs just as good if not better than samsungs/sonys that my friends have. Highly recomend it if you dont want to break your bank account but looking for good quality. The only reason i wont give it 5 stars is because the room needs to be fairly dark to avoid glares.

Impressed. Has a Good picture. The panel limits getting color depth of higher end Televisions. After playing with the picture and reading as many Setting and Calibrated settings for Vizio M, none of them were what I like in a picture. They were too yellow or too cold.
my settings are as follows: S&v cal dark
Auto bright: off , backlight 100
bright, contrast, color = 50 tint = 0 , sharp = 19
under More Picture: Color Temp = Normal
black detail = off
Xtreme black engine = on
clear action-off reduce noise both off
game off
Pure cinema on, color space = Auto, Gamma 2.2
under Color Tuner:
Red: in order going Down the line hue, sat, bright, offset, gain...
Red: 0, -2, -2, 0, 0
Green 1, -1, -2, 0, 0
Blue 0, 0, -1, 0, 0
cyan 0, 0, -2
Mag 0, -1, -1
yellow 0, -2, -2
under 11 point white balance going from 100% down to 0%
in order: Gain, red, green, blue
100%: -2 , 0, 2
90% 0, 3, 3
80% 0, 1, 3
70% 0, 0, 0
60% -2, -1, 1
50% -5, -4, -2

30% -8, -8, -8
20% 0, 0, 0
10% 0, 0, 0
5% 0, 0, 0
I am sure it's not perfect, but it's not as yellow as some calibrated settings, nor as dark as some. using this a a base, i think 11 point could get you even closer to great. Again, this panel is not a $3000 panel, it will never look like a $3000 panel. but, for the price. it's REALLY GOOD.

While technically not a TV, due to it lacking a tuner, it does a fairly good job at what it is suppose to do. The picture is quite good, though colors are not as wide as you may find on Sony, but the blacks tend to be slightly better. The 32 LED zones can be a bit noticeable when highly contrasted darks and brights are within the same zone. The biggest issue however is that it only have 1 HDMI input capable of full 4K and HDR. So you are stuck swapping devices if you have multiple 4K/HDR capable devices. It does have ARC which is nice to connect to a sound bar with an HDMI, which sounds amazing and syncs everything up beautifully...but that port just so happens to be the only HDMI 2 port that supports full 4K/HDR content, so you’ll have to pick an choose you battles for that port. One really nice feature is that it supports both Dolby Vision and HD10 4K, which is harder to find than I thought it would be, especially at this price. Unfortunately for the reason above (low # of LED zones, only one HDMI 2 port, and sharing that port with ARC) and having found a great deal, I will be returning this TV and getting the Vizio P-Series 65” that has 4x as many LED backlite zones (128) and 4 HDMI 2 ports. I wish Best Buy sold this TV, but since they don’t I had to go through another retailer.

Old Mitsubishi DLP died after 10 years, read the reviews on CNet and Best Buy and this TV was highly recommended. The reviews don't lie, great picture. Be advised, if you have more than one HDMI device that needs the newer standard you only have one input to use. My receiver is 4k passthrough so my satellite and bluray go there first so its not an issue for me. I'm very pleased so far, bright, clear, and excellent set for movies and sports, buy it!

Requirements: We were buying a 4k we were advancing with the times so we also wanted HDR features. Additionally we already had a 42" and had decided we would be happy with 50" screen size. Lastly we wanted true white or true black.
This display meets those requirements and exceeds them. It does not have a tuner. So no basic cable but we are a roku based family so we were fine with that. Additionally it only has one 4k HDMI port. From a perspective that we didnt have any 4k devices prior to our purchase of this television and a 4k bluray player. Its single 4k HDMI port out of thebtotal 4 on the display was adequete for our uses. Lastly Vizio has true black as a display this allows for really dark viewing out of the box. Movies that highlight black look amazing and arent difficult to see without changing the display contrasts.
For the purchase price we were able to purchase a 65" inch vs a 50-55" Samsung or Sony that we were considering.

This was my first 4K/HDR TV purchase. I had been waiting to jump into the 4K market until the tech had matured. Starting with the 2017 model year, I felt the maturity was there with features and product price. This TV has definitely not disappointed.
HDR is a fantastic technology. This is where the TV truly shines. Explosions are more right, the sun can make you squint. Everything is more vibrant and life-like. Bonus is that this TV covers both HDR10 and Dolby. When this TV was purchased, at the price-point it was bought (sub-$1000), that was a rare find.
The 4K on this screen is great. But it's not the "hype" that most would think. You can only really notice the difference between the 4K and 1080p when you're sitting 10 feet or closer. At that point, it's great. Further away, and the effects wear off.
I've used the Chromecast support sparingly. But it works just like a Google Chromecast plugged in, except you do not have to switch to that specific input.
I like have the Vizio app on my Android Devices. It made setup and calibration much easier than trying to thumb through the menus using a remote control. And speaking of calibration, you will definitely want to do that to get the most out of this TV. Factory settings are horrible. But once set correctly, it really shines.
The one thing that bothers me with this TV is the local dimming. Local dimming is needed to get the full affect of this TV (and is worthwhile to have on). The reduction to 4 stars is due to an issue, which is a direct cause of only have 10 zones. 95% of the time, you cannot tell where the zones are. However, when you have a lot of black on the screen, and some larger block of light areas (think settings menu on an Xbox One), you can see the zones lighting up, almost like a haloing effect. I was not able to see this on scene with small light objects, such as space with distant stars.
Overall, I am extremely pleased with this TV. I think without stepping up in the $2000 dollar area, this is one of the best TV bang for bucks out there.
