    This rehashed story is one that's familiar. This version tries to tie the elements together with some care but without much clarity or drama which I found kind of lacking. This story is always interesting but not always well done. I thought this was the case here.

    Tolstoy's epic is very significantly abridged... To do his book any true justice would require several seasons of filming rather than only a mini series... Although if you've never read his book and only watch this series, it is excellent for what it is.

    Exceptionally well-told, competently acted, superbly directed, and filled with marvelous cinematography, this historical drama of Imperial Russia and the Napoleon Invasion is a delight to view. A grand orchestra supports the perfectly tuned sound-track which amplifies the emotion of each scene. It is an epic story of war and its’ ravages, agony and anguish, a journey of discovery, the innermost life of the epics’ characters, and the value of people and their families.
