You need to be particularly academic or nerdy in the English-era Historical or Western Democratic senses to fully understand and appreciate “Warren Zevon”, both this album and the man’s full body of musical work. This is truly key to your grasping of the songs main topics and themes, as they constantly recite, then critique and question political figures and cultural icons. He references classical music and literature incessantly, using big words that many people, such as myself, did not learn in public schools. I acquired my grammar from the dictionary, as did Zevon. Also, this album has many elements of traditional Baroque, Classical, and Romantic era compositions. Further, there are songs that sound like something left on the cutting room floor from Copland's ballet "Rodeo". The music is hard rock on certain tracks, Kenny Rogers on others, with Eagles, Dylan, Randy Newman, and Neil Young inspirations apparent throughout. This is classic rock at its best in regards to rhythm and beat; imagine Petty, Dylan, Springsteen, etc, though much smarter in both analytical and musical intelligence. Sorry for the long review; I was surprised that Best Buy even carries Zevon's works, and so if anyone reads this, I hope that I at least provided a comprehensive overview. Thanks for your time.
I would recommend this to a friend
