If this device is plugged up directly to your home internet router you can access the storage device wirelessly. I recommend encrypting the storage device tho at some point preferably before you connect it to your router unless you are okay with people connected to your home network being able to see the drives contents. If not, you can partition the drive, and set encryption on each partition that will be password protected. This way each person can have a private "locker" for files and stuff on one drive. Im using this with a Nighthawk x6 AC3000 Router that has USB 3.0 and readySHARE features.

I’m a videographer and needed more space to store my footage. I’ve ran through so many of those 1tb hard drives by WD, so when this went on sale I had to snatch it up! The transfer speeds are decent, but overall this is a great hard drive if you plan on keeping it in one place. I recommend getting a SSD for a mobile storage solution because you don’t wanna risk dropping this and loosing any of your files.

This is our second WD hard drive. We use one for our PC and one for the PS4 to expand its memory. It was simple to format for the PS4 and was a great value. We are able to store and retrieve our family videos and pictures with ease as well as back up our files.

I purchased this to back up my accumulated MP3s. Videos, and vast collection of family pictures. I re-partitioned this device into 4 1 TB partitions and allocated each partition for different media content. I set it up to conserve on energy usage and consequently there is some latency in accessing each partition but it is a good trade-off. I am very pleased with the quality and price of this item.

I purchased this device as additional storage for my Xbox One S, and it gets the job done. The transfer speeds are meeting my expectations, and the formatting didn't take up as much space as it has with the earlier versions of this product. I'll be purchasing another one of these for use a backup device for the PCs in the house, and I'll be able to comment on the usefulness of the included tools.

There's not a whole lot to say about this other than it does exactly what it is intended to do - reliable provide you with ample extra memory and storage space. Easy to configure, very reliable and haven't had a single issue...Highly recommend

Bought it while it was on special at bestbuy.com. For 99 dollars it was a steal. Have it connected to my ps4. Easy set up. Only wish it wasn't so bulky.

I've always used WD external drives and I own a couple others that I've had for over 5 years and they're still working. This one reads pretty fast and has plenty of space that will last me awhile. I will continue to use WD for my external drives.

I was in the market for a reasonable 4tb or higher external hard drive for my PS4. I wanted ac power adapter as I have found usb powered hard drives to have more of a failure rate. This drive has the speed and storage I was looking for as I have quite a few games on my PS4 Pro. This is the perfect option for anyone looking for a hard drive for a console and is quiet also.

The over-all looks of this external hard drive are appealing! Its black "book-like" style design has curved front edges that looks great with my black desk top computer. It is study, feels well built and has a nice weightiness to it. The little blue led can be easily seen from the front and lets me know it's working. It seems to be fast and has lots of memory room (4TB) to hold all my YouTube videos, which is why I purchased it. It has good reviews as well so we shall see how long it lasts (has a 2 yr warranty and WD backup) as my last one (another company) died and took all my videos with it! It's not portable, and comes with a plug in power transformer. This is necessary for speed, and transfer time which is not what a simple cord plugged into your lap top can provide. For the price, a nice product and buy!

I've bought 5 of these - all of them are WD Red hard drives! These have a standard SATA connector and are really easy to disassemble to get the hard drives.

I bought this 4TB external drive to back up my photos which were on a quickly filling up a 1TB hard drive. The included back up software works like a champ and I now have enough space for the large image files created by my Nikon D810 and D500 cameras. The hard drive is extremely quiet and the single small light on the front is not too bright or distracting.

This is super! Its big and bulky and runs off of electric power, not just USB so be prepared for that. It is sitting on my floor right now because I do not not a have a home for it currently. I do not always leave it plugged in. I just plug it in as I need it. I am a photographer and use it to store ALL my photos on it. Seems to have plenty of room to do this.

I bought this external storage for the main purpose of connecting it to my Nvidia Shield TV 2017. So far, I have filled it with about 400 GB's of movies. From that storage, I can use the Shield as a standalone Plex Server. I have had to format it to ExFat for it to be compatible with the Shield, Win 10, and MacOS Sierra. I can even connect it to my Galaxy S7 Edge with an OTG adapter. The transfer speeds are super fast at around 130 MB/s. I my only CON with this drive is that it requires and external power supply, but I guess that is unavoidable for such a large drive. It's still not a deal breaker though. It comes with a standard AC adapter and a USB 3.0 cable; both these cables have a good length. The drive will not take up too much space on your desk. It can stand up vertically without being easily tipped over.

Easy to use, plug and play, good value for large amount of storage.
