This is a great external drive and excellent value for 2 TB disk capacity. No installation is required for basic operation, just plug in the power cord and the USB cable and the PC will recognize it after a few seconds. WD provide backup and security utilities which come on the drive, they will have to be installed. I chose not to use any of these, preferring my own methods of backing up.

Needed additional storage for programs recorded on my Dish DVR. This unit works, great, transfers quickly.

Easy to follow instructions and software loading. Initial configuration went well. Setup for basic data backup.

Hey, it's a Hard drive and it does everything it should do. I am using this as an external drive for my Dish Hopper DVR. Works great. Very quiet and fast enough to stream HD movies without a hitch.

I hooked this up to my WiiU and it works great. It has its own power supply which is what the wiiU must have. I tried hard drive with out power supply and it didn't work. This one is awesome!

Easy setup. Incredibly dependable. Does what it is supposed to. Much better than other brands I've used.

If your in need of some extra storage space, this simple reliable drive will do the trick. I say reliable because I have owned my other WD drive for over 3 years with no issues, hopefully I will get the same life out of this one. No need for a long review everything you need is in the package, including a small software suite for security and backup. Up and running and transferring files in 10 minutes! Enough said.

Helpful and easy to use. Plenty of room for ski videos shot on our Sony steady shot action cam.

This is a quiet running external drive. I chose not to use the bundled back-up software as I already had an Acronis license. They do make a very efficient pair though.

WD SmartWare is the main app used for creating backups, and WD Drive Utilities allows you to register, wipe, and run diagnostics on the hard drive.

I bought this hard drive to retrieve the movies i had saved on my DVR,which was failing.I just plugged it in and it did the rest.It was very easy.When i got the new DVR i just plugged it in and put the movies onto the new one.I had the option to just leave them on the hard drive to save space also.

I have used many of these with my satellite DVR. The USB2 connection makes it very easy to swap drives and the speed is sufficient for all uses with the DVR (transfer and playback). Drive must be reformatted for the DVR's format but the DVR does this automatically when the drive is first connected.

I bought this for my son. He had no more memory on his Wii U and needed to download more games. It works great and it was easy to hook up.

Worked fine out of the box, plug in laptop, install software, set up back up plan with no issues. But I found one problem, I had two hidden folders, I notice that they were not backed up when I check the folders that were in my backup, went to windows properties unchecked the hide property of these folders and still are not backed up in my book. I have and old Seagate back up drive with instant back up and don't have the same problem, also when I plug in inthe Seagate unit the laptop reads the unit and open up the Seagate software instantly, but when I plug in My book it does not open up the software.

this is my 2nd WD external hard drive. The best external drive you can buy. I use it for all my back up. Photos, important papers, etc.
