The drive's reliability and price point are also frequently praised, along with its fast USB 3.0 transfer speeds and quiet operation. I bought this hard drive for my XBOX One to increase my storage space. Easy to install, plug n play, moved all of my game files in less than an hour. Very simple to use and worth every nickel, especially considering all of the new games that just came out. NEEDED THE SPACE.

This drive is a USB 3.0 that I have connected to the USB 2.0 port of my 2010 Mac mini and it works without issues. I did reformat this to the Mac standard but that was not really necessary. I've had many WD drive in the past and not one has failed me yet. I do not anticipate any issues with this drive either.

After 2 years of having this hardware and having all of my pictures, it is not no longer turning on. I'm not sure if it is this brand in particular, but I am in awe. All of my pictures since 2008 are all gone. I'm trying to find a way to transfer information, but I am still devastated.

Great for Xbox One

I use this external HDD drive as my primary drive for my Xbox One. I have moved all my internal data to this external drive. Drive performs well. There isn't any noticeable difference between using one over the other. 5TB is great for storing these massive games. My Xbox One came with 500GB. These days with games coming in at 60GB to +80GB the internal HD is not going to cut it. Drive comes with 4.5TB of usable space FYI.

I purchased this for my Xbox One. No plugged in and the Xbox immediately identified and asked me to reformat the storage for the game. copied and saved games from internal memory over to this drive, fast, easy and no issues. only had one day so far, so i will update if there are any issues that arise. for the price, cannot be beat.

purchased this to add storage to my xbox one. So far, zero issues. I like the small size of the unit too, it hides nicely in the entertainment center

boot problems when connected

see WD technote 1201 if your windows systems fails to boot up when the drive is connected.
Still a five star product, well maybe 4.5 for not mentioning this issue in the box. ALL of my current pc's will not boot if a USB drive larger then 2tb is connected, unless I shut off legacy USB which makes dealing with bios issues a real pain. Have to have a PS/2 keyboard on standby if I take that route.
waiting to hear what WD has to say about the lack of documentation. I really do not want to have to wipe and return the drive.
Sorry I didn't buy an internal drive now. This was some painful stuff to deal with.

I bought the 5TB Western Digital external hard drive for my Xbox One. It very easy to set up. Just connect it to your Xbox One using the included USB cable to one of the USB 3.0 slots in the back of the console, plug in the power supply. Turn on your Xbox One and wait for the console to tell you that the storage is ready. Reformat the disk. And your ready to transfer all of your content to this drive. Games take no time at all to load.

I purchased two 5TB external HDD's to keep a redundant backup of system images. The other HDD purchased was a Seagate (http://www.bestbuy.com/site/seagate-backup-plus-desktop-5tb-external-usb-3-0-2-0-hard-drive-black/5127069.p?id=1219111162112&skuId=5127069) and this WD is wayyyyyyyyy faster, about 150% faster, they are both USB3.0, so it must have faster r/w speeds. Definitely recommend this over the Seagate.

Used this with the included Acronis backup special edition to backup and restore a 2 TB hard drive (200 GB in use). I was amazed when it completed in less than 15 minutes, then restored to a different hard drive which worked flawlessly. In the past, this would have taken 2.5 hours using on-line (USB 3.0) software for backup, and a restore that used a USB 2.0 driver took 22.5 hours!

Using this to back up video files. Much less expensive than an internal drive and made by the most relied upon name in Hard Drives.

Good drive, horrible software

So far, drive seems to work well, but best way to use it is just Plug-and-Play, don't bother installing ANY of the included software. The WD SmartWare back up software program is just about useless unless you are doing the most basic backup, but with a 5TB drive, isn't everyone going to use this to backup multiple drives, partitions, computers?? Useless for that.
The WD Drive Utilities actually screwed up the drive completely, causing it to lockup during large file data transfers, and also locked up my laptop. Once I removed the software, drive worked fine again.
Why does WD strongly encourage users to install this software, when it is pure junk? Buy the drive, plug it in to USB 3.0. watch it rip.

WD my books have never let me down, which is why I buy them exclusively for my external storage needs. This 5TB model is currently the best deal I've seen in terms of storage capacity per dollar for a my book, especially since most places are currently selling the 4TB version for the same price.

Provides plenty of needed space for backing up more than just the important files/documents. Not necessarily something you would want to pack in your suitcase for a short trip, but if you're going to be away for a (long) hiatus it may be a lifesaver.

Dead already!

Was quiet and fast. Though after an hour or so of copying my files, it stopped and now all I hear is a clicking noise. Won't even connect. Hard drive is dead suddenly, after buying it just yesterday. I'm giving it a 2 star rating, only because it was great for the hour or so and It's NOT Best Buy's fault. I realize not every hard drive is going to be perfect, (like most things) which is why I would still recommend it! Owner of several WD drives, I this is the first that ever died on me. Will return it ASAP. Near BB is 60 plus miles away, and that store ran out!!!!!
