this external hard drive is perfect. I stored everything from my computer onto this and still have alot of room

I hooked up the product to a 3 year old iMac and turned on Time Capsule and viola, I have automatic backups of my computer.

My Mac only has USB 2 and Firewire. This is a USB 3 drive with no Firewire interface so I couldn't take advantage of the extra speed, but as a backup drive it does the trick.

Easy to use & takes no time at all to backup my MacBook Pro retina. Would definitely recommend this product

As a professional photographer, I have lots of these things. And shooting raw images with a 36 megapixel camera causes storage space to disappear pretty quickly. This space depletion has been quickened with recent client requests for video projects as well. I bought this external specifically for a project I was starting (and recently completed). It performed well even when editing video from it. There were a few times when it would "refresh" or whatever but that was only a minor inconvenience here and there. May buy more if I catch them on sale again to just store a coupla years worth of work on and stash away off site.

I previously owned a LaCie Cloudbox. It was great, until I switched to the Airport Extreme, which does not support UPnP, ( LaCie Cloudbox requirement). Worked with LaCie's support, but then gave up. I knew I didn't want the Seagate Central, because of heating issues. So, I gave the WD MyBook a try and so far am pretty happy with it. While it is slow to transfer files to, once transferred, it actually works pretty well. The setup was relatively easy and I can watch the files on either Roku or PS3. It also has cooling vents and goes into sleep mode when not in use. So, I'm keeping my fingers crossed with this one.

This is actually the second Wd drive that I've purchased for backing up my photos and videos. I have no complaints and would definitely buy another.
