Randomly makes a clicking noise which is normal but scares me at night

I have been working with and configuring networks since the '90s. But this is the most frustrating software non-solution I've ever experienced. I installed two WD Red drives as RAID1. I configured the MyCloudEX2Ultra with Users, Groups, Shares. No problem. But now how to get an actual backup. I first tried Smartware. After spending six hours I contacted WD Chat support to learn that it was end-of-life product for my firmware level 5+. So I tried Acronis which is what was recommended. After hours of trying and online chat to WD I find that it does not support incremental backups (only the files that changed since your last backup). So now I'm trying to use Windows 10 incremental backup. Problem is: The MyCloud software has a maximum timeout of 30 minutes. I have to babysit it to refresh to keep the backup going for maybe 10 hours or more -- every 30 minutes. This is just my own PC, not including my other devices. Look elsewhere for NAS. WD makes great drives but it is not a software company. I will redeploy my WD Red drives in my PC and just clone my hard drive for backup. Will rethink my other devices for solutions. You can backup and share with family a few files. But you can't backup your entire PC with this.

the interface is very easy to use. i was a bit worried about not knowing how to properly set it up, but it really walks you through it.

Device is reliable and has been perfect for backing up a small home worth of devices.

I had older EX2 and had to change due to old firmware and not having cloud access. this works really good and the new OS5 is working great. as long as you have solid internet connection you wont have any issue accessing your data from anywhere in the world. I personally did access my files from different countries and works really good.

This is a great device for personal cloud. Need bit of technical knowledge to share and create personal account for family. Overall i am loving it.

Honestly at the price point this is one of the best options out there. The MyCloudOS system works amazingly well, the connectivity and stability of the unit itself is unmatched.

I previously had the the 3TD My Book Live. It crashed on me so I ended up with the EX2 Ultra. I love the ease of setup with WD products. What I care for most about this product is the RAID configuration. I'll always have a backup on the primary and secondary drive. I no longer have to worry about missing data or hardware crashes.

While on the surface this is an excellent product. Under the hood is where it needs work. I was disappointed to learn the amount of vulnerabilities associated with this product. I bought this to replace the previous EOL hardware. It is unfortunate that if you're are not paying attention the vulnerable position some of these devices can put your home network.
