A good network backup, but with caveats
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought it to have a decent network backup drive, in which I can access data on the fly. It is great, silent, you can explore files from your iOS device and you can sync several Cloud apps (including Dropbox, Google Drive and OneDrive). Plus, you can connect a USB drive and copy the content into the MyCloud. The only thing that I blame on is its inability to set it as an iTunes server. My Mac gives me trouble to link to the folder (it is not your classical map network drive) and you cannot set it to access files from your iOS to listen to music (you need to use the WD app that is not as friendly as the Music app).

Complete Disappointment
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this drive because I've generally had good experiences with WD brand network hard drives (as well as their other hard drive products). Unfortunately, this one proved unsuitable to task and a complete disappointment. I have deployed dozens of network hard drives, and one thing I expect is a web-based interface for administering the drive (changing the network name, adding shares, etc.). This drive doesn't have one. The only way to administer it is to install apps, preferably on your smartphone. The consulting client for whom I purchased this drive doesn't own a smartphone, so I attempted to install the WD My Cloud Home apps for Windows. I ran into the following problems: 1. The apps only run on 64-bit versions of Windows, so the first of the client's computers could not run them at all. 2. Installing the WD Discovery app, which is the first of the apps you must install to manage the drive, reduced my client's second computer to a digital paperweight. As I type this, I'm still trying to uninstall it. 3. I finally got the apps to run on the client's third computer, only to find that the Windows version of the apps can't manage the drive. They seem to be able to help you copy files to and from it, but that is all. The WD Drive Utilities app doesn't even see the drive. And even though the utilties ran, once they were installed, there was a noticeable perfomance degradation to the entire system. Maybe this works for someone who likes to use his smartphone for everything, but as far as I'm concerned, this is completely unacceptable, and I will be returning the drive to Best Buy in the morning.

Works as expected
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Although I have had this hard drive for only a month, it has worked as expected, has not dropped off my ethernet network, and was easy to set-up as a Network Access Server. One month is not a long period of evaluation for a hard drive, but, hopefully, it is an omen of good things to come.

Works Awesome with Sonos
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Bought this to have integration with music library to sonos. Works great the two companies must be working together. Sonos has my cloud home music service. This is the good alternative to the more expensive SSD. Apps work pretty good too. Also, just set up time keeper on the MacBook Pro.

Does exactly what I hoped it would
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I got this device to store all of my media and run the Plex server. So far it is working exactly how I hoped it would. I'm very happy with it. I can access everything stored on it remotely and the Plex server is always running so I can play all of my media remotely as well. And it was very easy to set up too.

Great for Storage
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this to replace a My Cloud that suffered massive problems and almost caused me to lose all my data, including a lifetime of pictures. The drive is incredibly easy to set up and transfer files to and from. I also use it to connect to my home Sonos speaker system and while it works well with the Sonos in-app service, my music is not easily searchable like it was on the My Cloud. But overall, it is a very solid device.

No autobackup
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I am sure its a user error even though I've scoured the internet for the answer, none of which work. I cannot get it to connect so I can use it as an autobackup similar to my passport. Something about Win10 not having a file installed, idk anymore. Manual backup works though, and its easy to set up from my phone for pictures.

Best Cloud storage for easy use
||Posted . Owned for 5 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. Thus far this has been the best personal wireless storage space for my own use. This has been really easy to setup and connect to remotely. It took WD many prior iterations to get the right, but now it is an excellent product. The app is super simple to use and a clean design.

Works well, but slow uploading--really SLOW!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. It totally does what it supposed to do and I do not have any complaints other than the speed of backing stuff to the the home cloud. Since it ONLY comes with an ethernet cable your speed is much slower to load things to it than if you had a USB 3 cable for it but finding that cable was a pain so I was stuck backing up music the slow way which took a day. Now smaller back-ups of music take way longer than they should so they get done while sleeping.

Great Automatic Backup
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. We wanted to have a device that would automatically backup our files and after one glitch, it has been working great. We had the Best Buy installers install the device (they were already coming for other items). It backed up the day of the install and again three days later...then it would not back up any more. The installer had to return and was able to fix it, but didn't know why it happened. Hopefully it will continue to work well.
