I bought this for use with my MacBook Pro, since it has USC-C ports, and this drive is a USB-C drive. It comes with a standard USB-3 adapter for use with computers that don't have USB-C. I ran some quick benchmarks on the drive and am getting 290 MB/sec write, 370 MB/sec read. While this pales in comparison to the native SSD built into the 2016 MacBook Pro (2800 MB/sec read/write), it is plenty fast for backing up files for transfer between computers. It is about 3-10 times faster than USB 3 thumb drives and about 40 times faster than USB 2 thumb drives.

Fast . . Compact . . Light . . Portable Though on the higher end price wise Western Digital has created one of their best products yet. Needed to protect business data and increase transfer and backup speed so I picked this up. Though I suggest making sure that you select the format for maximum speed for your computer and not letting your computer run out of power with the drive attached as I had a corruption problem once when that occurred I did not return the drive. They even give you an adapter if your computer does not have a USB-C port. I highly recommend.

Transfer speed is lightning fast! I am currently editing 4K videos straight from this to my computer. It's tiny and easy to carry around if you are a traveler.

This thing is fast! If you have any reason to use USB-C, this is the perfect way to carry around 1TB of data in a tiny package. It's using much faster PCIe SSDs, so they are about five times faster than older ESATA SSD drives. The only complaint is that USB 3 cables are so big in relation to this drive that they are like the tail wagging the dog. The price is pretty high compared to more conventional drives, but if you want the fastest in the smallest package, this is a contender for sure. It supports second generation USB 3, so it's as fast as first generation Thunderbolt. It's powered by the bus, so no power adapter required. You can't believe how light and small this is until you hold it. Remember, the bigger the SSD drive the faster it is, so don't expect the 256 gig and 512 gig models to be as fast as the 1TB version I have, but any of them are going to be very speedy for their class. Also note it comes with a USB-A adapter so you don't need to buy anything to connect to old school USB ports.

I love this SSD! It is super fast at 500MB/s, yet is super small as well - can easily fit into a pocket or small side pocket in my backpack. Don’t have to worry about it being crushed or destroyed, and it looks cool too.

This is a fantastic external Drive for anyone who has USB-C ports. I work off of this drive in premier pro and all of my adobe suite products and it is as if I was working on an internal SSD. It is super fast and super compact. It takes up almost no room for travel or on my desk. This is a must have for editors, video makers, or anyone who needs to expand their storage with fast capacity.

This drive is fast, light, small, and tremendously portable. It comes with a sturdy cable and an adapter for computers that have not reached the USB-C standard yet. I have had it for several weeks and except for a minor formatting issue it has performed magnificently.

Amazing Drive - Cable Could Be Better

This product is absolutely amazing! Fast as lightning, durable and super lightweight and portable. This thing is tiny and holds so much! I absolutely love them and want to begin using only SSD External drives like this one for all of my professional video storage needs. The only thing that I'm not crazy about is the cable that comes with it. In order to use this drive with a normal USB port on my laptop, I have to use the adaptor that comes with the drive because the cable doesn't connect directly to a normal USB port without an adaptor. The adaptor just adds another link in the chain which disrupts the connection often. That is really annoying and I urge the manufacturer to consider this and send an extra cable that us USB native.

I have both this SSD and the Samsung T3 SSD, which is the same price and a direct competitor to the WD SSD. They are both excellent, very fast, high throughput. My only gripe about this drive is that the housing is plastic, is a fingerprint magnet, and when transferring large amounts of data, the drive gets extremely hot. The Samsung is smaller in terms of length and thickness, has an aluminum housing which asa seems to conduct heat better. Heat can be a problem with SSD's because if they get to hot, they will automatically throttle data transfer to cool down. Given that they are the same price, I would give the edge to the Samsung, in terms of build quality, but the WD is excellent as well, and I like that it has a single cable with an included adapter that allows you to switch between type C and usb type A connectors.

My fusion drive recently died and I bought this external SSD to act as my primary HD including booting from OS. So far so good. My computer is actually faster using SSD. I've got it velcroed to the back of my monitor since it is small, light and now out of the way.

The designed is not my kind. I rather have the first generation of Samsung T1 for design but the price and the value of this item are worth the compromised of the designed. The SSD is pretty fast by itself but the USB 3.1 Gen 2 make this item better deal than Samsung T1 or T3.

Only reason not to give it 5 stars is price, SSD drives are still overpriced though thankfully they are getting better. I am not a huge fan of the style but I won't knock it for that. The drive is fast, silent of course and very little and light.

Transfer speeds are very fast. The small design lets me carry it in either my camera bag or my laptop bag without any trouble. As I travel for work, this lets me use my work laptop to transfer files off of the camera, freeing space and reducing the number of cards I need to take with me. I highly recommend this is you do a lot of travel photography and want a highly portable backup with you.

Seamless loading and back up of all files. Used with 2.1 or Thunderbolt it's as though it is an internal solid state drive. I'll purchase another soon.

I bought this to replace a spinning disk model that died on a trip. Luckily it didn’t take my photos with it. I bough this to replace it. With its small size it fits into my bag easily. The cable has both USB C and USB A so it works with any machine it have.

On a family reunion 100th birthday celebration trip, shooting photos and video on 4 cams (Nikon DSLR, DJI Osmo Plus, GoPro, Samsung VR 360) 4K, needed to offload every night. Picked up the drive in Chicago. Not cheap, but wicked fast, light, small. Get it, you won't be disappointed.
