What You See Is What You Get Album
My all time favorite album is Luke Combs What You See Is What You Get. There are SO many reasons as to why this album deserves all the love in this world! If you ask country music lovers, what their favorite new country artist is, they will more than likely say Luke Combs. He is a country boy from Charlotte, North Carolina who has had a passion for music since a young age.
The first criteria that makes an album great is the message the music has. In Luke’s songs, the messages vary in all the songs, but the one that I think most can relate to is Dear Today, Blue Collar Boys, and Even Though I’m Leaving. He writes all of his songs to make sure they appeal to him, but also his listeners. When listening to the songs in his album, it makes people relate and feel the same way Luke might have felt at one point. In the review of the album, Rollingstone states, “he’s sculpted in the process of becoming country’s most relatable everyman”. This only helps prove that he is writing such relatable songs.
The second criteria that proves this album is the best is the cover of the album. The cover is colorful, and eye catching. It does a good job of creating a good atmosphere and picture for the album. It has an easy to read font on the album, and it is super unique to the artist and his songs. It also is very simple and not too much. The only downside to the album cover is how he has put so many songs on the same album instead of making a new album with a new cover. The cover is a hand drawn picture of him with the words “What You See Is What You Get” written around him.
The third criteria is how well of a person the artist truly is. In many different reviews/ interviews, Combs is reported to be a very good person who is extremely down to earth. He is a country boy who went to college at App State and studied Criminal Justice, only because he did not think his music would take off. He is a very simple and plain person. At all of his concerts he wears a black PFG button down, and jeans. He also puts emotions into the music he writes. In an article from Country Now, it states, “he was fighting back tears while singing the work”. He was fighting back tears when singing the song “Even Though I’m Leaving” because he has not experienced losing his parents yet, but it still made him think about the day it could happen.
Overall, I think this album is the best, and it fits all the criteria created to make a perfect album. He is super passionate about his music and the way his audience perceives his songs. He puts his all into each song on the album, and I think all country music lovers do not have many bad things to say about it.
