While doing an imdb search on JK Simmons came across a movie starring JK Simmons and Miles Teller that I hadn't heard of about an aspiring drummer. Since I play the drums too I thought I'd check it out and I wasn't disappointed. JK Simmons is very intense and I later learned that Miles Teller actually plays the drums so the scenes with him playing don't look fake. A must watch for drummers and jazz fans.

I got the movie for a good deal which makes seeing the bad condition of the case kinda make sense. The case was scratched and ripped in multiple places kinda like someone was trying to send of the polish of the case.

The movie itself is excellent. However even though the picture of the product says Blu-Ray + Digital, mine came only Blu-ray, no digital. Obviously there are two versions, one with digital and one without. So if you don't mind getting Blu-Ray only then it's a great movie to have.

The amount of self-inflicted sacrifice is intended to shape and deliver who we want to be. In certain areas there has to be some level of talent involved, in others it simply takes determination. In Whiplash we assume there is an inherent skill to our protagonists ability that has been present since he picked up sticks at a young age, but it is the amount of hard work and sacrifice that will prove whether he will turn out to be complacent or one of the greats. Andrew Neiman (Miles Teller) has plenty of ambition, but it is his drive that will turn the story of his life into something people might discuss around a dinner table decades after he dies. As a child who was not given everything on a silver spoon and certainly not conditioned to believe anything I touched would turn to gold failure in certain areas became an expectation. Our present, cushioned society makes these truths indiscernible and so we garner generations where all that is expected is instant gratification with little endeavor or commitment required. Whiplash, while clearly drawn from personal experiences and small truths, is also and maybe even more of a commentary on if there is a line to be drawn in breaking down these barriers of reassurance. In what will likely be one of if not "the" defining performance of his career J.K. Simmons as conductor Terence Fletcher tells Andrew that there are no two words more harmful in the English language than, "good job." Fletcher has a philosophy that genius is not blessed upon an individual or built through congratulations, but rather because it is pushed to a breaking point where the only thing that matters is to never stop striving to be better. True greatness comes from real pain. Nothing will essentially ever be good enough for Fletcher and it is in this drive to prove him wrong that Andrew is unable to stop. With his second directorial effort Damien Chazelle has crafted a film so in tune with itself and its character arcs that it is nothing short of exhilarating to see unfold. While one should take the literal actions of the film with a grain of salt and look at the bigger, metaphoric implications it is making to get a clearer message of its ideas it nonetheless comes together to deliver one of the best and certainly one of my favorite films of the year.

Look, let's set technical aspects aside, like how the kid wasn't actually playing the drums, or how his car got flipped, but he managed to run to the gig (he'd have AT LEAST a broken leg). Instead, from a musician's point of view, this rang so true it honestly made me remember what it took for me to WANT to play music. It took those hits, it took failures, and it took criticism and utter humiliation to get me to understand that practice means nothing if you don't play what you practice, and practice what you play. Practice doesn't make perfect if you just practice mistakes; perfect practice makes perfect. You mess it up? Do it again. You mess it up? One more time. You still messed up? Ten more times. A thousand more times. As. Many. Times. As. It. Takes.

This movie changed my opinion of Miles Teller. I couldn't figure out why he was being cast in movies until I saw him in this; now I'm a fan. The way Damien Chazelle directs this film is special. Who would think a movie with a kid trying to make it to first chair in an arts school woulf be this tense and dramatic as this. JK Simmons plays the instructor that creates the tension. I'm trying my best not to give anything away but the dynamic between the two, and how their relationship plays out to the end, is the most intriguing thing I've seen in the last decade (and I go to the movies a lot). There's a reason why Damien Chazelle's career blew up after this movie and he went on to do Lala Land. This is a must watch.

For the price that is charge on these, I sort of would expect the full disk collection DVD/Br/3D/4K, But the Steel Books seem to be holding up better than the plastic cases, which seem to get brittle and break after a couple of years. Would help if they would have replacement inserts that would make it possible to store the four formats (maybe soon five with 8K) in the one case, instead of having to have several cases of the same movie on the shelf.

I had purchased the regular bluray a while back as I heard many positive reviews and I was not expecting enjoy this movie as much as I did. In my opinion one of the best movies I have ever seen (top 5). I loved this movies so much I had to own the steelbook and add it to my collection. The steelbook has a matte finish and it’s a must own for any movie buff.

I haven't been a fan of some of the Pop Art Steelbooks, but I think this one is quite nice. It's simple, but it does a good job conveying what to expect in the movie. The movie itself is very intense, and I found it engrossing to see just how far the two main characters were willing to go in their pursuit of personal glory.

The film itself was very intense and very well acted, picture was clean and clear, a lot of detail, almost to 4k levels. The main attraction to buying this specifically aside from the movie being very good would have to be the beautiful steelbook. It looks and feels great. Definitely pick this up if you see it.

not for your kids to watch. the guy is abusive, and its based on a true story. This movie is great otherwise, has amazing FUNNY lines, fast action, really sets a nice pace. The sound is great, can't say enough good things about the sound, it has what you expect for the money you spend on a disk of this magnitude, the money they spent was well placed. You get high quality content. The CGI is so realistic you forget its CGI and just fall into the story and lose yourself in the emotion and staging of the drama and action.

Bought this after having rented the movie last year. It's a great indy movie with a tense, engaging soundtrack. The quality of the blu-ray seems great and the sound and picture were both outstanding on a 4K player and TV. Highly recommend!!

Incredible performance by both Miles Teller and JK Simmons. While both are known for their comedic side roles in other films, Whiplash truly showed the breadth and depth of their acting prowess. An emotional thrill ride from beginning to end
