Great looking fridge, but shoddy construction

We purchased this unit after careful consideration of features vs. cost. Best Buy delivery was on time and went smoothly. We did not purchase installation (one water line and plug it in - not that hard to do...) so it was left in a position that I can do that. After that done, while pushing it back to its final place I heard scraping noise, and it would not move any more. As it turn out, during assembly, the waterline coupler got caught in between a bracket and the bottom of the fridge, causing the bracket to bend down and be below the roller line. After many curse words I was able to free it and reposition it properly. (Really Whirlpool? needing a 1/4" wrench for height adjustment on a several hundred lb item? - Really difficult...) Ended up having 'nice' marks on the hardwood floor.

Not print proof and freezes food Have owned for 3wks and its going back. Freezes everthing on top shelf, hinges have white calking that looks terrible. Best buy was great and offered replacement, 2nd one had nore white gunk than the first. This is not in any way shape or form print proof its a nightmare to keep clean with 4 kids and we are a clean family... If your kids are grubby ones oh boy have fun. The print proof marks worse than our old standard stainless. Space was good, had potential quality is just lacking. Returning and ordering the highly rated LG 26cu ft french door instead. I will say beat buy and geek squad were great and no complaunt about them just the product. Also started making helicopter knocking noises the last 2 days.

We purchased on 5/1/2021. The unit is in our kitchen and never exposed to chemicals that could damage the metal. We live nowhere near the coast. Within a year the unit is pitted with rust marks on the front exterior stainless steel doors. Other than poor quality exterior the unit is functioning well. I do recommend looking at better quality products.

I bought the refrigerator just 6 months ago and it already has a crack inside and some bullets came out that were reliable to the company and they just wanted to put resistol on it and no. They gave me a solution, I went back to best buy and they didn't solve anything for me, it wasn't worth spending so much money in garanty and the refrigerator

Only had this unit for a month. Bought this to replace an expensive 2 year old LG (garbage). Thankfully the freezer keeps food frozen and the refrigerator keeps food cold. This unit was just a bit more than what the repair would have been. Anyhow, it is spacious, well designed. Ice maker working well. It does spatter a bit when dispensing ice but not terrible. Does make a high pitched noise (fan, compressor likely) but not a deal breaker for us. Would have liked dairy bin but will order. One more shelf in freezer would’ve been nice too. LOVE finger print resistant finish!

There is so much to like about this 28 cubic foot side-by-side! I seriously considered a French door, but practicality won out -- the side-by-side has 4 more cubic feet of freezer space! Placing the icemaker unit in the door makes it easy to remove for filling coolers, and gives a full extra shelf of freezer space. The freezer's two clear drawers are very handy and can be put where you want them. The refrigerator door shelves are generous for gallon jugs The exterior is sleek and no fingerprints! The ice and water dispenser is tall for my favorite tumbler. The only improvement I would have liked would be more options for shelf placement, but it is adequate for my needs. I hope it lasts 20 years like my old Whirlpool!

    1. Cold water dispenser is intermittently cold and 2. makes Loud bang when water stops and 3. the ounce counter on the display works intermittently  4. Right Door (refrigerator side) alignment looks like its open on the bottom. 5. Hard boiled eggs & beans froze in the refrigerator. Increased temperature and moved the eggs & beans to a different spot and were still frozen the next day. 6. Ice dispenser door inside freezer doesn't close on the right side unless you push it real hard.

We have had this for three years, almost to the date. We bought it in the middle of July 2021. it is now August 2024. This refrigerator is amazing. We love it for the most part. It is spacious, and we so appreciate that the ice machine is in the door. I hate the wasted freezer space when ice parts are stored in there! We absolutely love, love love, love, the automatic dispensing of the water! We do have to recalibrate it pretty frequently but it’s not a dealbreaker at all. We did just have to call service because the icemaker stopped working. The technician just came out and found that, like many of the reviews have said, the wires at the bottom of the freezer door have severed. We knew that this was some thing that was in the reviews when we purchased the refrigerator, so because of that we bought the extended warranty. Thankfully, we did because it is covered. If we hadn’t, the repair for it is to replace the door and the door is $1000. So I would recommend this refrigerator as long as you buy the warranty! I will also be extending the warranty every time it comes up for expiration.

So far I've been pleased with my purchase one month ago. The ice machine is small but produces quite well. The shelving is not adjustable but it works for me. There is much more room in the fridge and freezer and the doors on both side than my last fridge had. It was a larger fridge too. The full delivery service was great, the guys did a good job. I noticed the doors were not even so the delivery / set up guy adjusted a piece down on the feet, It leveled up but went back to uneven doors after a week. I will try to adjust it again, A great product for the price. I decided that Whirlpool was an option to choose because they have been making kitchen appliances for years,

We got an excellent deal on the fridge and saw great reviews online at multiple retailers. We’ve only had it a week but so far so good! I love the spaciousness and the ice maker in the door. The bucket is smaller than other models, but who uses that much ice anyways? I like the ease to remove it and ability to set it on the counter as an ice bucket if needed. The filter is so much easier to replace than the old screw in type—one button ejects it and a push snaps it back in. Separate water and ice dispensers make it easier for our kids to help themselves without making a mess. My only complaint so far is the ice maker is very loud. You can hear the water dispensing into the ice maker and sound of ice dropping to the bucket. Geek squad delivery was amazing! Our delivery team made every effort to get it in the house without banging our fresh painted walls or scratching our floors. They even took time to explain all the features and set up the settings for ideal use. I would have happily given 5 stars if the ice maker wasn’t so dang loud!

Great appliance, experience marred by poor support

I really like my new Whirlpool refrigerator. It is spacious, well laid out, brightly lit with efficient LED bulbs inside, and in particular I like the in-door ice maker which unlike more traditional units doesn't take up the equivalent of a full shelf in the freezer, although it is quite noisy when dispensing ice. The machine runs quietly, and quickly cooled down to appropriate temperatures on both the refrigerator and freezer sides. I am optimistic that I will get several years of trouble-free service from this appliance, which replaces a Kenmore side-by-side that served me well for almost 20 years. I have just one complaint about the refrigerator itself, which could be the fault of the manufacturer or of the Best Buy distributor, and I have no way of telling which: In all of the marketing photos including customer-provided images, this model has FIVE shelf bins in the door on the refrigerator side. Mine arrived with only THREE. When I asked the otherwise excellent delivery driver about that, he became silent and would not give me an answer. That's OK, it's probably not his fault or his responsibility. (The delivery was punctual with good communication, and I am happy with that contractor's service.) I would have given the refrigerator itself FIVE stars, but I am deducting ONE for the two missing shelf bins. ------------------- Now for the serious problem I experienced, for which I am deducting TWO stars, and this is entirely the fault of Best Buy's management and customer service infrastructure: I first contacted Best Buy customer support via Internet chat to discuss the missing shelf bins. A person who I will call #1 picked up the chat promptly, but told me that my only recourse was to RETURN THE ENTIRE REFRIGERATOR for an exchange! I asked #1 to escalate the chat to a supervisor. That person, #2, told me the same thing. I asked #2 by chat whether someone at the local store, about three miles from my house, could simply take two shelf bins from a floor display or otherwise unsold refrigerator and drive them to my home. #2 said that was "impossible", and suggested that I drive to the store with a copy of my receipt and ask to see a manager. I asked if #2 could order two compatible bins from Amazon, have them shipped to me, and charge the company for the expense. #2 said that was out of the question. My next step was to get on the phone with Best Buy customer support. After going through a tedious menu, I got to support person #3, who immediately hung up on me when I asked to have his or her first name repeated. Maybe that was a glitch, but it was annoying. I went through the phone menu a second time, and spoke with person #4, who told me that my only recourse was to either take the 283-pound refrigerator to any Best Buy store myself for an exchange, or the company would provide a UPS return label! United Parcel Service won't handle anything over 150 pounds, so both suggestions were absurd. In addition to that, I was still grappling with the loss of hundreds of dollars worth of food from my failed Kenmore refrigerator, so the idea of exchanging a new Whirlpool that seemed to be working just fine other than two missing plastic shelves seemed almost Kafkaesque. At my request, support person #4 transferred me to #5, who was supposedly a manager, and was also unable to offer a reasonable solution. I got the impression that most of the support team, who are or were affiliated with Geek Squad, were accustomed to dealing with small electronic devices and not major household appliances. I called a different support number that #5 gave me, and got through to #6, who agreed that I needed to be made whole without having to return the refrigerator. #6 set up an appointment with a repair technician, but when I looked at the details in a text message I could see that there were multiple problems with the appointment including my physical address. Once again I called the support number provided by #5 and went through the same tedious voice menu. Finally #7 answered, and acknowledged that #6 had messed up my repair appointment, which incidentally provided that someone would call me between 7:00 AM and 7:00 PM the following day to arrange something with me. #7 not only corrected the appointment information, but also gave me the first name and phone number of the repair technician. Finally, a glimmer of hope! Someone who actually seemed to care about a customer's troubles. The next morning I sent a text to the repair technician, explaining that an in-person visit was not needed and that I only needed to have two plastic shelf bins sent to me somehow. The technician responded promptly and politely, asking for a photo of the service tag for the refrigerator. The technician ordered the parts and asked me to text him back when they arrived. Problem solved! But I had to spend more than three hours on a chat session, phone calls, and texting to get it fixed. The shelf bins were shipped via UPS to my home in San Diego, California from some place in Illinois. They arrived late in the afternoon today, November 2, to fulfill a complaint that I had initiated on October 27. ------------------- So, here's a question for Best Buy management: Why couldn't someone in the Mission Valley, San Diego store simply drive to my home three miles from their store with a couple of plastic shelf bins and avoid all of the hassle, stress, and wasted time? I respectfully request a serious reply to my question. Your customer service team seems to be poorly trained, lacking in product knowledge, and lacking in genuine care for your customers. In addition to my new Whirlpool refrigerator, I recently purchased a Whirlpool washer and dryer from your company. That transaction went very smoothly, and I plan to buy at least one more major household appliance from you in the near future. Can you assure me that I won't encounter the kind of support issues I had with my new refrigerator again?

I do my homework before making such a large purchase and this was no exception. So lots of research, reading reviews, and hands on evaluation of refrigerators across multiple stores and brands. I'd previously owned a French door LG unit that cost $500 more than this Whirlpool, gave me lots of trouble over the years, and then finally died before I'd owned it 7 years. The LG was listed as having a lot more cubic feet of storage than this Whirlpool, but boy, you wouldn't know it. The problem with French door units - especially on the freezer bottom is that the items are much less accessible than a side by side unit with shelves - like this Whirlpool - which translates to better food use and less waste. This fridge excels in that area with great, deep shelf space and extra usable space in the freezer door too. The more divided and individual shelves or bins? The better. The extra large storage in the fridge section door is appreciated - especially for multiple gallons of milk or other large size bottles and containers. Plenty of space for warehouse size purchases from your club. I originally had purchased a Samsung fridge from Best Buy but after reading some last minute horror stories about the ice maker on that unit and as someone who consumes a ton of ice? Decided to go with this Whirlpool instead - which was a close second on my choice list. I'm so glad I did. (Best Buy was awesome about the before delivery purchase decision change too. No hassles.) The ice maker on this machine is a beast and holds a ton of ice. Not one jam and I've yet to run out of ice...ever! Something that certainly wasn't true on my old LG unit. Best Buy's financing options were the best offered anywhere too with the longest terms of anyone at 0% making it much more manageable to pay off such a large purchase.

Love the look and the amount of space inside. Has so much more usable space than my old fridge, even though they are technically the same size. It is extremely noisy, though. Some of it is because the icemaker and ice bin are in the door. You will definitely hear ice drop and water run more than you would if the icemaker was further inside. When the ice bin is empty, hearing the ice drop is loud enough to make me jump. There are other odd noises I hear now and again as well. None of them last long - maybe 15 seconds? But they are fairly frequent. One other oddity is that it is easy to get tiny amounts of frost inside the freezer. They usually disappear later, so it may have to do with whether or not the fan is blowing when the freezer door is opened? I'm not sure, but it's something I'm going to keep an eye on. Other than this, the fridge seems to work well. I haven't noticed cold or hot spots yet, but it's early days still. I would pay attention to the air flow markers when loading your fridge, though. It doesn't seem hard to keep them free, but you don't want to block air flow by accident. All in all, it's a better fridge than it is flawed, but you should make sure the flaws are something you can live with before purchase.

Very spacious. The shelves and drawers seem a little flimsy, however so far so good. The fingerprint resistant stainless is very nice and does help keep the prints off. Ice maker is fine and is nice in the door instead of the top shelf. A little noisy when refilling the water but no big deal. The stay fresh air filter was missing. Only the styrofoam was behind the door which at first makes you think it should come out but it does not and read it is not supposed to. Called whirlpool and they are sending me a filter but haven’t received yet. Overall ...pleased so far

We’ve owned our Whirlpool fridge for about a month now & am enjoying the ample fridge & freezer storage. The ice maker storage area is much smaller than we had before so we pack gallon sized ziploc bags in advance of any anticipated extra usage. The quantity is more than adequate for our family on a daily basis. The fridge stainless steel finish has added a bright new look to our kitchen area. We had read reports of a high pitch noise as the water filters & ice is dropping, this happens when we empty the ice compartment but only for a few moments. If you have a studio sized apartment it may be annoying but anyone buying a fridge this big is going to most likely have a larger separation from their sleeping area & their fridge.
