Customers are impressed with the 4.3 Cu. Ft. High Efficiency Top Load Washer's cleaning performance and large capacity, finding it easy to use and a good value for the price. However, some customers noted that the washer can be noisy and that the lack of an agitator, less-than-ideal spin cycle, and absence of a fabric softener dispenser were drawbacks. A small number of users also reported reliability issues.

Great Washer for the Money

I purchased this during the Black Friday sales for a great price. It works great. It does take longer than a normal washer, but that's how it's engineered. The trade off is that it saves a ton of water because it uses the amount of water it needs, not some arbitrary amount. Unless you fill it to the brim, the time isn't not too bad. The capacity is huge. As a single dude, I don't do a ton of laundry, but you can probably fit a large comforter in there no problem. As other reviews state, it does make noise because it is a washer and that's what they do. It doesn't seem overly noisy to me. The perception of how noisy it is depends on where you have it in your house and how intolerant you are. I have also not had issues with clothes coming out sopping wet. If you read the instruction manual and put in the clothes how they state, you won't have issues.

We bought this top loading washer yesterday as a replacement for a front loading washer that was giving us a lot of problems. I read the reviews and saw mostly good things and thought the price was great. We picked it up ourselves and customer service at the store was good (as always). Got it home, hooked it up. I've used it probably 5 times and I have to say it's loud... Like really loud. The way this washing machines vibrates and bounces during rinse and spin cycle reminds me of the furnace in Home Alone. Like I'm seriously scared i.e it sounds as if the front door is going to blow off at any moment. Not only that, but the quick wash does not get minor dirt stains out. I'm really bummed about this. We're going to keep it because we live really far out in the country and it was a huge hassle arranging for a new washer. Plus, it wasn't that expensive. But something tells me this time next year I'll be fed up enough to go through this whole process for a nicer model. Don't buy this one. Wait until you can throw in another $100-200 for a Samsung.... Just my opinion though.

This was not the original washing machine I wanted to purchase from BB; the one I wanted was out of stock at the warehouse after I had already purchased it so BB let me have this one instead. I was pretty nervous about taking it because of all he mixed reviews but I figured I could return it if I didn't like it. I decided I would take other reviewers' advice and read the manual (never had an HE machine before) and then put this machine through its paces. Glad I read the manual otherwise I would have completely fouled up the load-in; I've always been a "start the machine, put in the detergent, and load the clothes while the water fills" kind of girl. It's a different process with this one, (detergent, clothes, close lid and start) and you have to make sure you pack the clothes loosely (no cramming - but heck, it' IS a massive 4.1 cu ft basket so cramming isn't necessary). It made some noises that were different from normal washers - clicks, hums and whirs but it isn't any louder than my last GE machine. (In fact, it's a bit quieter). This weekend I've washed fleece blankets, big plush bath sheets, jeans, and a king sized duvet cover and everything came out of the washer great - they weren't soaking wet and full of water. They came out like they did in my last washer.
I read in the manual that using an HE detergent is an absolutely MUST because non HE detergents create too many suds which in turn makes the cycle times longer and "reduces the rinsing performance". Not to presume anything but perhaps some of the rinsing problems people reported came as a result of using regular detergents and non-HE? Had I not seen this in the manual I probably would have used my regular detergent.

Let's just say that I received the machine yesterday and will be returning it. The clothes come out very wet, like the spin cycle does not work at all. It took me 3 hours to dry towels because they finished so wet from the maxhine. The machine is loud too. Also, In order to use fabric softener you have to stop the machine during the rinse cycle and add it manually. Who wants to be bothered with that? I called whirlpool to complain and they could care less. If you look on other sites this unit has horrible reviews. I wish I would have checked reviews before I ordered. I don't know if I would even try another whirlpool machine after this experience. I may go with an LG or GE unit.

Clean Clothes/Loud Washer

Purchased this washer 2 weeks ago after reading some reviews of loud noise while the agitator is engaged on this model. I thought those reports were flukes or outliers. It turns out that they were true. When the agitator is working on this model, there is a high pitched squeak. It's not deafening, but you can hear it if you are in the next room. We finally called Whirlpool for a repairman and they were able to schedule us within the week. According to the repairman, that is just how these models work, and we should look for a model with sound dampening features. We are returning the washer this week. Other than that and the lack of a detergent/softener dispenser tray, it is a great washer that gets the job done for the right price. Be informed!

We have had Whirlpool appliances for years and thought they were great. 8 months ago, we bought this washer. After less than 6 months, it stopped rinsing and spinning properly (at the end of every cycle, we either had suds or soggy laundry).
A month and two service visits later, it still had the rinse and spin issue, AND started making a noise like a small animal was dying in my utility room.
Another month and FIVE service visits later, we thought the problem was fixed. Three days after the last "repair", the machine is completely broken. The first day, it got stuck on random parts of the cycle and the green light just kept blinking. The clothes were soggy, but not clean. The second day, it just locked the lid and filled the tub, but did not actually start a cycle (we had to unplug the machine just to open the lid and retrieve our sopping wet, dirty clothes).
The service company (who was great and seemed competent enough) was honest with us and told us that, in their years of experience, Whirpool would have them do dozens of service calls and literally replace EVERY PART of the machine, but would not replace the entire machine under any circumstances -
even though it was clearly still under warranty.
We don't think it is unreasonable to expect a brand new major appliance to function reliably for more than 6 months. Whirlpool apparently disagrees.
Bottom line: This machine is a piece of do not waste your money.

The sound gave me a headache. It was rather a hard buzz noise vs a swooshing washing noise. Other than that I loved it. It was huge compared to my old 4.3 cu ft GE. But I think it was too big. The dryer that is suggested is a 7.0 cu ft which is what I have, except it's a GE, and the clothes came out wrinkled because the dryer was too filled. Fills with just enough water to completely saturate and when you put it on bulky or heavy load it fills to the top almost. I fit a twin comfortor, a twin blanket and a few sheets and still had alot of room left probably to fit another thin twin blanket. Wish this came with a see-thru glass lid and the sound was quiter or just a better sound at least. If it wasn't for the annoying noise I would have gave it probably a 4.5 for the price. I returned it to go with my original purchase which was the best buy insignia which has it's cons also. I would only recommend this if it's going in your basement or a place where you won't be around to hear it. The cycles were rather quick also.

A Great Introduction to HE Washers
Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.
We replaced our dual-action agitator washing machine (and the dryer) with this matched set from Whirlpool. We are very pleased at its performance. The clothes are noticeably cleaner and the airflow in the dryer is much superior to our previous set.
I believe the clothes are cleaner because HE machines only use about a quarter of the water of a traditional washer. This concentrates the detergent greatly, even though you use less actual soap per load.
I would like to address some of the negative comments I saw in these reviews before we made this purchase. I can't speak to those who have had real mechanical problems with their machines. But I can say many of the comments complaining about its performance are from people who quite obviously did not read the instruction manual. This is a different way of washing clothes. You will not get the good results we do if you treat it like a traditional machine.
The other major negative criticism is the "noise" this machine makes. It is true the different kinds of sounds an HE washer makes may grab your attention as the whirs and clicks come and go. It is not the constant hum of agitator action you get from a traditional washer. But after a month of running this washer I believe the noise level is actually less than we had from the old machine. Our washer and dryer sit in the corner of the kitchen—we know all the sounds this thing makes and it isn't bad. We just had to get used to it. Which really didn't take that long to do.
We're very satisfied with this model. You can spend more money and get more bells & whistles (and perhaps less noise.) But this budget model has proven itself to us as having a great value.

Started having issues after the warranty I purchased was done. Even before then it knocks loudly even with light loads. Now it won’t go out of certain cycles even after being unplugged for a whole day. And before this it would not wash at all on the wash cycle. Haven’t even had this 5yrs yet and already have to replace it because the cost of fixing it is more than replacing it. This was my first ever whirlpool and I must say it’s sad to have to replace it so early, and having 4 little girls makes it hard to just up and buy something so expensive.

My wife and I picked out this washing machine on the need for a washer since ours was dying. We picked one based on price - low price. We also wanted to make sure it would have a large size capacity and would last at least five years.
Had the washer delivered to our home for free, which was nice.
Delivery crew was helpful and courteous.
The washer is better then we expected it to be.

Washer (and dryer) is provided by the complex I've moved into. The lack of a) a dispenser for the softening agent or b) a timer or buzzer, to alert the user when the machine is ready for the fabric softener is needed for this model. That's probably the only thing keeping me from giving it 5 stars. I'm not going to watch the "pot boil". Some of the cycles are very long, but I can live with that. Based on a suggestion from a different manufacturer (but who can tell these days who owns what label) it was suggested I place the dryer sheets into the washer. This works well, except one brand leaves behind some fine filaments on the clothing. I have no choice in what I get here, but this would not have been my choice.

Perfect Washer for the basic needs.

I bought this washer in Jan 2020, its been 4.5 years using this without any need of service or any kind of issues.
I have moved twice with it and it is still serving me perfectly.
This statement itself vouches for the durability and efficiency of this washer.
White color blends with my laundry room and gives a feeling of purity and cleanliness, and that is how it performs by cleaning all dirt from the cloths and mind you I have 2 kids.
In all, I would definitely recommend this washer, it does not have any fancy feature like Wi-Fi and Smarthub and all. But it performs the job it needs to perfectly.

We buy value, never top of line. For size, features and price this seemed like a good machine and BB had a good deal going. Having been used to our old machine, it takes some getting used to the machine thinking for itself. Even for a basic model, it does a lot of the brain work. It is quiet. Warning, definitely do not put the soap on the laundry, put it at the bottom like it says in the instructions. Had detergent spots over everything which disappeared on re-washing. Won't make that mistake again. My wife is happy with the choice. happy wife, happy life.

Worst Washer Ever

Thought I would help the environment and my water bills with this washer but it was the WORST I have ever experienced. It never has enough water to clean the clothes (I have to stand there and keep lifting the lid to add more water or just add more from the kitchen sink) and it spins so violently that my clothes are a tangled mess. Forget putting in long sleeve shirts with anything! It has even torn my sheets! I cannot put my sweaters in to wash because they come out so mangled that they are stretched out and I have quite a few that I cannot put in the dryer so forget trying to hang dry cause they are soooo out of shape! I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS WASHER!!! In fact I HATE THIS MACHINE!!!

I have had this washer for about 3 weeks now. So far I have not had any issues with it. It seems to clean the laundry well, and the spin cycle gets the clothes pretty dry. This reduces dry times greatly, and is a huge improvement over my old washing machine.
The only complaint I have so far is that the washer makes kind of an odd grinding noise when operating. I have looked this up and it is supposed to me normal.
Overall, this is a good basic washer for the price. I got it during a good sale and definitely would not recommend it at MSRP.

It would have been better if it had a agitor. My clothes that had stains, etc had to take to the laundry mat. It could not get them clean. Good if you have a desk job and don't get dirty... Ever. After 3 years the rods were bent and it was always walking around the garage every load.

I got this washer at Best Buy in August. I replaced my peace of **** samsung. This washer washes laundry so good!! It's the closest one to the old school washers. I got the 5 year service plan from greek squad for 100$. It is worth it because when I was calling around to have my samsung fixed it was 90$ just for someone to show up! This plan takes care of everything!! And do not wash king size comforters, it may fit but you run the risk of breaking the washer. The only thing negative I can say is the noise my pipes makes when filling up or using water, you can hear the pipes when it stops using water, but I really don't care as long as my laundry keeps coming out great!

Price was right and cleans the clothes but is so load during the actual washing, not the spinning, I am going to get rid of it. Called store where purchased and got the run around. If you want something quiet I would not recommend. If there is an easy fix I am all ears. Been like this since day one.

I've had my new washer for about two weeks not. I purchased it because of the water savings. It's very easy to use, quiet, and does a great job of spinning out the water. Drying time is cut in half. I did have one load that didn't spin out as much as the others but that was due to my not balancing the load.

Lousy spin cycle!
Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.
The good: lots of room in drum since no agitator, gets clothes clean, is very quiet even on spin cycle. But the one bad thing about it makes all the good qualities invalid. The final spin cycle does not pull all the water out, so you are left with dripping wet laundry. I actually hand wrung items out before putting in my dryer, and the dryer took twice as long to dry loads because of how wet the items still were. I was quite disappointed, as I really wanted to like this washer and it had so many other good qualities! Also, it had no fabric softener dispenser and my Downy Ball did not work with it (the ball opened but no softener was dispensed). But on the bright side, Best Buy was quickly and easily exchanged this washer for a different model. I recommend the Whirlpool 3.6 Cu. Ft. 9 cycle top loading, #Model: WTW4800BQ. It is about $100 cheaper, has plenty of room in it, and works great!
