Customers are saying

Customers are impressed with the 4.3 Cu. Ft. High Efficiency Top Load Washer's cleaning performance and large capacity, finding it easy to use and a good value for the price. However, some customers noted that the washer can be noisy and that the lack of an agitator, less-than-ideal spin cycle, and absence of a fabric softener dispenser were drawbacks. A small number of users also reported reliability issues.

Noise Will Drive Me Over The Edge!

Not understanding how people are saying this unit is quiet! The noise is driving my entire family crazy. I do laundry on the weekends, and there is no way I can tolerate it. Also, the locking lid is unnecessary and frustrating. Returning and getting a standard agitator washing machine. But with that said, it cleaned our clothes well, but my sanity is much more important. The loads also took significantly longer than my previous standard washer. Time is precious, so we can't have that.

    Bad -- Piece of Junk!

This washer is the worst washer that I have ever owned. Spoke to Best Buy about returning it -- they said "No"......referred me to Whirlpool. Whirlpool sent out a repair person who stated there was nothing wrong. It leaves dry soap all over the clothes. It doesn't use enough water to get anything clean. It tangles the clothes so badly that I have ripped some pieces to get the clothes out of the washer. The spin is so strong that it leaves creases in the clothes so deep that everything has to be ironed. I have even tried running them through the dryer for a second time with a wet towel and they are still so wrinkled that I have to iron them. I washed one pillow today and opened the washer after the cycle was finished and there was still dry soap in the middle of the pillow and I had it on "Deep Water Wash". Doesn't have a softner dispenser. DON'T BUY THIS WASHER! You will regret your choice.

    Love and hate

I really love this washing machine when it is working. I bought the washing machine in May. As soon as I got it, it would not do the drain cycle. Just go through the whole process like it was then once "done" it would go to the wash light again and shut off with "wash" light up. Tried doing every setting to see if maybe it was something I was doing wrong but the same thing happened every time. After 2 weeks of having to "drain & spin" every load I washed I finally did something I hate doing and had to have Best Buy replace it. They delivered the same one in a very timely fashion and wow! Amazing how great the washer works. Everything is clean and every cycle is working the way they were supposed to. I believe the delivery man was right saying that it might have been a computer chip probably. He was just guessing. And now let's fast forward to today, less then a month later. This weekend guess what is happening again. Yes! Same issue new machine. Will not drain and malfunctions every time. Till Friday when I can contact Best Buy, looks like I will be doing "wash" and then "drain & spin" till I can get my 3rd replacement in less then 2 months.

    Not for Large Loads

    Posted .

This washer is okay for light/small loads. There are many things I dislike in this washer. The wash cycles are too gentle, you cannot switch cycles in between washes, and the water is measured by weight. Usually the problem in my experience with this washer is the amount of water that goes in. I have previously paused it in between cycles to add more clothes and the clothes in it are not fully submerged in the water and cycle is way too slow and gentle. Being that wash cycles are too gentle, with large loads I’ve opened up the washer only to still find stinky smells in my clothes, meaning it was too gentle or not enough water. Another thing that is very frustrating is that if I decide to put in a load and it ends up being too large and I want to switch cycles after it already began filling, the washer has to start over, empty all the water out and restart in the new selected cycle. Hence it takes forever! Overall this washer is okay for small households and small loads. It didn’t cut it for my household with two kids and lots of laundry!

    Love My New Washer

This is the first washer I have ever bought. After reading many reviews for multiple units we settled on this one. We didn't need anything fancy just something simple. So the price was spot on for what we wanted. It did take some getting use it not having an agitator in the middle lol but, other then that it has been great.

Why did I have to reboot my washer???

The first one delivered was defective, would only pump water. Second one arrived today, and this one would pump water and would agitate, but would get stuck in the rinse cycle. I am posting this so maybe this might help someone else. And I highly suggest to whirlpool to put an insert in their packet that explains these steps, so you dont lose customers thinking your products are defective. Place the cycle knob on "Normal". Then turn one complete to to the left. Then three clicks to the right. Then one click to the left. Then one click to the right. Now all the lights will begin to flash. Now turn to the right until the "Wash, Rinse, Complete" lights are all lit. Press the Start button. Unplug the washer from the wall for "10 seconds". Plug it back in. No Lights = Fixed. I now have a functioning washer. Also I would ask best buy why dont you installers know to do this? Why don they just do this with ever install? So you dont have returns? Frustrated customers dont buy products from you. Whirlpool you should put something in your manual about this. At the moment I am not feeling really great about whirlpool And not sure I will buy another whirlpool appliance. When its new I just want to plug it in and see it work.

Only 6 years old, and need to replace suspension rods again. Hubby can do it, but its not an easy job, and parts run $100+. Id hate to see what a repairman would charge. We do not overload this machine. Very disappointed in what i thought was a good machine. Considering buying a new machine, but wont be a Whirlpool!

    Choose Another Washer

Waste of good money! Clothes seem to get clean but, it's incredibly loud and causes water hammer in my pipes. The kicker is the clothes don't spin enough and are soaking wet at the end of the cycle. EVEN after 2-3 more "Drain & Spin" cycles, because these cycles for some reason use water??!! There is also a "Rinse & Spin" cycle so not quite sure what the "Drain & Spin" actually does...or maybe mine is just defective?? Whirlpool lost a customer with this product...too bad. Was mistakenly told by the sales associate this was an energy saver when it is NOT Energy Star qualified and because of the extra cycles that must be run in order to put clothes in the dryer, it's an energy waster! Do yourself a favor and choose a different model.

Love this washer, so much more efficient than LG washer, less than 6 yrs old, cost twice as much, cleaned half as well, & caught on fire when NOT in use. Hopefully Whirlpool's customer service is equally superior to LG's, if needed. Especially like the low profile agitator.

    Hunk o' junk

I've had a Whirlpool top loader for 3 years that I loved, but when I moved into my new house, I figured I'd get a new machine since I didn't need all the features and size of my old one. What a mistake! This thing is loud, never stays balanced, doesn't wash particularly well, and sometimes doesn't even drain properly. I like having knobs instead of buttons, but despite all the fancy cycles (and you'll only use about 3), it doesn't even have a fabric softener dispenser; you have to remember to run into the laundry room at the right point in the cycle, something I haven't had to do with an appliance for 25-30 years. Normally I keep my appliances until they're worn out; I'm already saving money to replace this disaster.

First HE washer I've had. I really miss my old washer. It doesn't feel like the clothes get wet enough. And I put it on HOT water and its just warm??? I don't even know how that happens. Must do something internally. And it has no fabric softener dispenser!!

I hate this washer. I'm on my main floor right now, and it's set up in the basement. I can hear it making a terrible noise, but apparently that's just how it works(on the spin cycle). It sounds like jet plan stalling, and revving an engine. It's just not that it's LOUD, it's that it sounds awful- like it's sick. My 20 year old set was so much better. Don't upgrade unless you have to. I really just wish i had my old set back. I actually had them replace the first washer, b/c i thought it was broken. But nope..second one is the same way.

I bought it in 2020 & it was perfect washer until I put comforter in the basket . It doesn't have regular agitator in the basket so they're not telling you is that you can't put large blankets in the washer cause it will break.

Have had bad experiences with Maytag and Samsung top loaders in the past due to low water capacity regardless of cycle and water level options. THis washer is very plain and simple but does a great job at washing clothes with sufficient water. You would think is not a water efficient He washer but it is. Only negative is that it doesn’t have a detergent tray so you have to be around to add any softener during the rinse cycle if desired. Otherwise great washer

After spending more than I wanted to replace my dryer (the unit itself was about $650, but install - including permits and upgrading my gas valves brought the total bill to about $1,100), I was nervous when the washer also needed replacing about two months later. I found this appliance to be much easier - this unit was on sale for a very affordable price and has a lot of the extra settings my old machine didn't have. It also has a huge basket to hold large, bulky quilts, rugs, and pillows. Did I mention it is quiet too? Installation by Best Buy took about five minutes. I'm very happy!

I purchased the whirlpool washer and dryer April 2021 and I would not recommend this washer. I have been very disappointed. The washer makes so much noise and the worst part is the clothes are still dirty. We have to constantly rewash our clothes or wash by hand. I am very upset that I spent so much money on it for it to not even work.

I had a Crosley washer/dryer set for 20 yrs. Old school, a tank! Was excited to get a new set with more options than just wash, rinse. 2 out of 3 loads did not spin the water out. On the third load (4 bath towels, some socks and a sheet), I set it to re-spin after I 'redistributed the unbalanced load' as per the troubleshooting instructions. Still didn't work. I had to remove sopping towels and break it up into 3 tiny loads-a total of 6 spin cycles for one load. Not thanks, it's going back-TODAY. I wish I would have read these reviews first, would have saved me some time. Going back to old school!
