Now this is how a developer makes a great first game!!!!
Let’s kick things off by saying, this game is hard.... and I don’t mean dark souls hard, I mean pray that your teammates have mics and do as you say or no one will survive a second. Teamwork is the key word for this game! If you don’t communicate you won’t survive.
The game is on and offline, but it’s better to play with others.
Boards of zombies literally flood your screen! It’s amazing to see all this in a single frame without stuttering or glitching! This made me believe in miracles!!!!
Weapons are customizable as well as character perks and they all serve a purpose! Make the best of what you got
The only downside I got for this is that it was very very short. It’s very fun and enjoyable which makes replayabily extremely high!!!
Pick this game up and have fun!

World War Z is one of those rare licensed games that doesn't just happen to match the material, it blows by it, leaving the film in the dust.
In fact, it's much, MUCH closer to the "source-source" material, (the book,) in that it follows along with the titular WWZ by visiting different spots around the globe, each with its own cast of characters.
Truly, however, WWZ the game, doesn't lean too heavily on story, although each of its 4 protagonists in its 4 locations get a background story told via a comic book style cutscene once you've finished a level with them. Each of the 4 locations has a small background told via radio transmission at the selection screen, and a set of transmitted objectives during each mission.
Each location has 3 missions, except Tokyo, which inexplicably launched with two. (My guess is meeting launch deadline, as within 2 weeks of launch, the official Twitter account announced a 3rd mission and new special zombie type arriving in an upcoming update).
That is one difference that doesn't come from either source, but rather video game tropes: special zombies. An unknown 5th is on the way, but currently, there's a Bull- a large SWAT officer that charges, grabs a party member and pummels them (or you,) until taken down. The Lurker, who hides in the shadows and will pin the victim to the ground, clawing away at them. The Screamer, a construction worker with a bullhorn whose screams continue to call in more zombies until he's quieted. Lastly, there's the Gas Bag, a former HAZMAT employee, complete in suit, who releases noxious fumes upon death. Pretty standard fare, in that regard.
What isn't standard fare, (among the zombie side of things,) is the unparalleled size & scope of the zombie swarms re-enacting, in real-time, and in almost every case, interactively, the best scenes of mass zombie movement and attacks from the film.
From flowing like a river through streets, to flinging themselves from great heights in pursuit of prey, to making "pyramids" to scale walls, it's all impressive with no signs of slowdown, even on a base PS4.
And while the comparisons to Left 4 Dead are certainly warranted, I'm not *entirely* certain it's completely fair- in all honesty, I've forgotten much of my playtime in L4D, so I'll leave that for you to decide. Yes, it's an up-to 4 person co-op shooter, although (and IMHO, at least on consoles,) better for being in 3rd person. It also features 8 person versus modes, complete with zombie hordes.
Despite it being 4 person co-op, there are 6 different classes. Each class has its own permanent leveling tree. A gunmaster, explosives expert, medic, ammo support, melee, and an "exterminator" who gains bonuses versus hordes and specials.
Next up is a WIDE variety of weapons. While each class starts with a particular loadout which can't be changed initially, as you level that class, unlocked perks may give you a few different options, but most weapons will have to be found scattered around the maps. Like classes, each main and sidearm weapon will level up with use, unlocking more powerful versions of each of the many available. (Usually between 4 and 8 variants).
After finishing a level, you'll earn some XP that you choose where to spend. Bank it? Unlock a perk for your class? Or, unlock a more powerful variant of your starting or favorite weapon?
Because each class' skill tree only allows for 1 ACTIVE perk per branch, (3 different perks per branch,) playing with one team's gunslinger online may be different than landing on a team with a different player playing as that same class, as each player will personalize a class to their playstyle.
Lastly, gameplay-wise, playing solo in WWZ isn't nearly as awful as similar online co-op games. The bots are generally capable, although far from perfect. They generally hold their own, help appropriately (ie, don't forget to try and save their own skin while attempting to help you,) and can be counted on for revives. Still, they're not above stepping in front of you and taking damage while you're shooting, and occasionally are known to crowd into you, clipping into your body/ view as you use a gun emplacement/ stationary weapon. (Hopping off the weapon and getting back on seems to fix this).
Outside the game, the developers are extremely active with the community, genuinely overwhelmed by the love of the game by fans. They've been asking for feedback, error reporting, and wishlists of what to add, as they plan to continue to support the game for some time.
This is a great game, even just to solo, scratching an itch for a co-op shooter that has been attempted many times since L4D, but not nearly as successfully as WWZ. At a retail price of $40, the few issues are easily forgotten. Had I paid the full $60 AAA price, I'd still be as happy. If the devs keep adding as they've stated, that $40 is going to look like even more of a steal.
Run, don't walk, to add this to your collection.

When I got the game, I opened it, popped it into my PS4, waited for the updates to download, started the game and met with "Could not connect to WWZ servers".... yay. Although since its launch, the servers worked well and havent had a problem since.... a few crashes sure and lost my data (But it was backed up, somehow). But with the recent update, havent had a problem since. Now for the game, the story is pretty short but a ton of fun if playing with friends or randoms online. There is Friendly Fire so be-careful not to shoot a teammate especially at a higher difficulty as you'll be taking a chunk of your teammate's health. It definitely has the Left 4 Dead vibe going with a bit of The Division. Now for the MP, the PVPVZ, also during launch, the MP was so laggy but with the recent update, it became a much smoother experience but anywho, that is also fun especially when there are rounds where a huge horde of zombies will come in and attack whoever they see. Gotta watchout for both the enemy team and zombies when going for the objectives. For $40 (Unless you got GCU then $32), you cant go wrong with that price.

This game is fun if your playing online, my only disappointment is that I thought it was split screen and I can't play co-op at home, you can only play online and offline, but no co-op at home that was the only bummer, overall if you like multiplayer this game is fun, it's not bad and for $40 you can't go wrong, I hope this helps.

I've only had the game a day, but I can't put it down. For those of you wondering like I was, yes, it is like Left 4 Dead...but better! The concept is the same, 4 survivors stranded in a city trying to escape hordes of zombies. What this game has that the Left 4 Dead series lacks is better graphics, and the weapons are better, upgradeable, and there are more of them. You also get a class structure with upgradeable abilities. The gameplay is intensely fun. Go quiet with your silenced weapons to get through areas with minimal effort. Then hunker down and prepare you defenses for a big fight, where hundreds of zombies come pouring in NON STOP, and just like the movie they will pile up and climb over walls, so topple that pyramid or you'll be in a world of hurt.
I love this game and I recommend it to everyone. Its simple run and gun style can be picked up easily by almost anyone. When you want an arcade style shooter that's intense with action, but simple enough to pick up and play I highly recommend getting this game.

I watch a playtrough of World War Z online first. This game was everything I hoped it would be. Smooth graphics, controls, and action.
You have a crew helping you obliterate waves of infected zombies. This was my favorite feature of the game. The Co-Op aspect really gives you a realistic feel when you get surrounded.
You have plenty of weapons to fit your style of game play. You can use silence/stealth at times, or bring out the heavy guns for some fun. You will like World War Z.

A Fun Mindless Zombie Game

After watching the trailer and a few gameplay streams on Twitch, I decided to give World War Z a go. I bought the game for PS4, fired it up, next thing I know I'm with a few friends online having lots of fun exterminating zombies... lots of zombies... swarms of zombies.
Such an awesome, fun game. The online multiplayer campaign is extremely fun but it is limited to just 4 levels, which can be completed in less than 24 hours. I hope the developers of the game eventually release new content, especially for the online multiplayer campaign, with various playable cities throughout the world, in order to keep the story moving forward. The game is currently extremely short, and that's my only complaint about it.

If you dig co-op campaign zombie killing action, this game is for you. This game is basically Left for Dead with more characters, levels and fully customizable weapons and classes. Also has multiplayer modes such as swarm deathmatch and domination, where human squads fight each other while zombie hordes get in the mix. Currently the main downfall I have experienced is the intelligence of the other players when playing offline and allowing the programming to play with you. This has been addressed by the creators and should be patched and updated shortly, as well as new levels and character additions. For the $40 price it is well worth it, and honestly could have been a $60 game initially in my opinion.

The game is fun to play, but is a bit buggy. I didn’t get a chance to play it until a few weeks after the release and the game was very buggy. It would crash often. Other than that, the game is a blast to play. You not only get attacked by other players, but also zombies. Leveling up takes a while, unless you have plenty of time to spend on the game. Would give it a 5 if it wasn’t for the crashes.

Bought this on a whim to play with some friends and it turned out to be much better than expected. It kind of feels like The Division but with zombies and obviously not anywhere near as robust. It has 4 different scenarios to play through and each one can feel tense. It's just an overall fun game to play with friends.

this is a wonderful game! It is different story from the Movie. Graphics are alright for a 40 dollar game. You can play with friends. The weapons have a lot of customization. 5 skulls are the toughest difficulty! I'm 1 trophy away from the platinum! This is a tough one my fellow hunters!

I like zombie games but there were a lot of mixed reviews about this game so I was not too sure about buying it. Some of my friends said that it was a pretty good game so I decided to buy it. It’s actually a really good game because I like the constant action and intense battles. If you like this kind of game you will love this game.

This is better than most zombie games, however I wish it was more 1 person friendly. Trying to play a game on your own is annoying. If you are used to any other game that once you beat a level/mission you proceed to the next... this does not happen here. Therefore it loses a star.

It is a fun game! Very quick to jump in and kill tons. Nice polished graphics, very smooth gameplay, and a lot of fun... but I'm playing Days Gone now, so it will be a while before I return to this multiplayer zombie shooter. Days Gone is single player.
