    I WANT TO BELIEVE

X Files I Want to Believe was not what many fans were hoping for after a 6 year absence after the show's final episode in 2002. It had nothing to do with the upcoming alien invasion (in 2012) which the show's primary storyline was all leading up to. Chris Carter believed he could create a standalone movie that appealed to all people, not just fans of the show. This goal was not the end result as seen from its box office earnings and the fact that many die hard fans (including myself) were somewhat disappointed with the film. I was dying for a alien invasion plot! However, after seeing the film twice it grew on me. This movie was meant to show and revolve around the ever complicated relationship of Mulder and Scully, and it does this rather well. While the plot was rather boring and unimportant and did not have the paranormal essence which made the show and first movie so fun, for people who love the characters of Mulder and Scully this movie is a nice addition to your X Files collection. However, if a third movie based on the invasion is not made, this movie WOULD NOT serve as a good final appearance from our favorite paranormal detectives. Final words: A third movie depends on the sales of this DVD so all those who want that third and final invasion movie, GO OUT and BUY!!!

First of all, my wife and I are huge movie collectors. We currently own around 2,000 DVDs, including the entire X-Files boxed set with every episode and the first movie. I'm not bragging, just showing some credibility. My wife and I HUGE X-Files fans! We watched this in the theater and again on DVD, and I'm sorry, but we can't figure out why so many people were dissing this movie. All I can think of, is that people set thier expectations too high. I don't know what they were expecting, more about UFOs maybe? I don't know. This makes me think about the last Indiana Jones movie (the Crystal Skull.) People just ripped that apart, and again, my wife and I couldn't figure out why, we loved it. I just think that people set thier sites so high for a sequel of this caliber, and when it doesn't meet their standards, they get all bent out of shape! If you like the X-Files or even if you don't, I still recommend this movie. But, ignore the hype, don't expect the movie-of-the-century, relax, and just enjoy the film for what it is. This is a really good film and deserves to be appreciated. So, if you haven't seen it, watch it with a clear head and make your own judgement. If you don't like it, I'm sorry. If you do enjoy it, as we did, then you 'll understand what I'm talking about. I highly recommend it!

The X-Files, I Want to Like

While I was hoping for a great return of Mulder and Scully (and the acting was good), the script was not what I expected. Perhaps I was too nostalgic in my opion, but I was left wanting more from the writing. While overall this was a good movie, it wasn't the best of the X-FIles series. I guess since Chris Carter killed off all the characters I loved (and sometimes loved to hate) on the series, there wasn't as much of the true X-Files feel to this movie. Perhaps my expectations were far greater than they should have been, and I will be interested to see how I feel after a second viewing, but for now I rate it as good, but not great.

    Many Layers

I think this movie is brilliant, but not in an affected, self-important way. David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson really bring new, wise life into Mulder and Scully after six years away from the story, and a few, to some people, questionable years before that. It's a joy to see them again. I loved the movie on my first viewing, but I wasn't quite sure why. It took a few additional viewings for the meaning of the plot and the other characters to become apparent. I think viewers really have to look beyond the phenomena here to get to the important themes of loss, redemption and forgiveness, the limits of science and religion, etc. Fans of the show that were really interested in the surface phenomena only, rather than the universal themes, haven't appreciated this film, and that's a shame. I'd like to think some of the movie's value would seep in, but it's turned out to be a movie for people that appreciate mood and thought and the give-and-take of questioning ideas, which really was the essence of the series.

I have been a huge fan since the "pilot", so when I heard about this new movie coming out I was excited. I of course went to the midnight show, the first day it came out, and walked out loving every minute of it. Once coming down from my euphoria, I realized that it was not the best story plot for the movie. It would make the perfect episode, but didn't hold up for a movie. With that being said, I give it 5 stars because there is nothing like seeing the two of them together after The Truth, the final episode, first aired. If there is another movie in the future, no matter how bad...I shall be there at midnight AGAIN! I bought the DVD because I couldn't wait to see some behind the scenes documentaries...and this DVD delivers and then some!

I wrote a privious review under the regular copy, if you want to read it. I'm writing this review specifically for the special edition, which my wife and I own. I recommend this copy over the other copy for the extened version of the film and the special features. If you're an X-Files nut, as my wife and I are, you'll want this copy. If you're not that big of a fan and just curious about the movie, read my other review and maybe you'll want to get the other one. I hope this and my other review were helpful. I highly recommend this movie in general.

I am a X-Files fan and i greatly enjoyed the series but i have to say after watching the movie i didnt rlly like it as i thought tht i waz going to like it. i felt that there waz nooooooo point in writing the movie i do give credit of course to all the people who contributed to the movie. Althought i didnt like i rated it a 5 because there waz some good parts to the movie and i seeing Mulder and Scully in the movie. Seeing how Mulder and Scully were since the last time is season 9 waz great. The bedroom sence which every1 made a big deal about waznt all tht amazing but yet it wz still cute betwwen Mulder and Scully and the end part waz good too.

I'm an X-files fan and found myself laughing in tears of sadness about the black helicopter...under one condition, the old clerk at the pool, imploring "doesn't he know that the ladies area", father Joe's convictions after the fact, Mulder indicated he would be in bed ......." etc. the first time I saw it, I felt it was a flop. But you have to watch it over a couple of times connect the "pieces", literally and rhetorically, the relationship between the two Russian men & why father Joe could only "feel" whether someone is alive, well duh....keep switching heads is enough to confuse the heck out of any psychic. But after finally figuring it out, it still was nowhere near as good of a movie as the first one, almost as if they were "sanctioned" by let say the FBI itself? not to go into much details about ET, aliens etc, cause we got the goods on you both......Dave Duchvny marital issue and Gillian Anderson's "weight" issue before the movie was made. It was kind of a lulaby... lets wrap up this series once and for all. Should of done a version of Bio genesis, 6th Extinction & Amor Fati, Season 6 & 7....oops but that deals with aliens....shucks, can't do that now.

    Ending on an average note

If you're a fan of the series, this movie might be worth checking out, otherwise you probably won't bother. The acting is what I expect from the cast, otherwise I would've rated it lower and the extras are pretty good. There wasn't much of a mystery to it, which is the whole point of the franchise, but it is good to visit Mulder and Scully again.

I was a long time TV series viewer, and I enjoyed the previous movie. This one just didn't seem that special to me. I don't think I would want to watch again.

    Disappointment

I have watched every episode of the X-Files and I was very disappointed with the move. The "personalities" of Mulder and Scully were totally inconsistent with the series. Overall, I think it was unimaginative, left too many questions unanswered, and what I feel was a poor excuse of an ending to such masterpiece. If you didn't follow the show and enjoy mystery/love stories, this might interest you. But if you followed the series, I would not recommend it.
