THE X-FILES FINALLY on Blu-ray disc!!!

The sixth season of the science fiction television series The X-Files commenced airing on the Fox network in the United States on November 8, 1998, concluding on the same channel on May 16, 1999, and consisted of twenty-two episodes. The season continued on from the 1998 feature film and focused heavily on FBI federal agents Fox Mulder (David Duchovny) and Dana Scully's (Gillian Anderson) separation from the X-Files Division and the demise of the Syndicate—a "shadow government" group attempting to cover up the existence of extraterrestrials—in the two part episode "Two Fathers" and "One Son". The season was the first to be filmed in Los Angeles, after production was moved from Vancouver, Canada. This move was done largely on the behest of Duchovny, who wished to be closer to his wife, Téa Leoni. Series creator Chris Carter opposed the move, although series director Kim Manners and Anderson approved of it, although to a less-vocal degree than Duchovny. The first half of the season also saw Mimi Rogers and Chris Owens' characters—Diana Fowley and Jeffrey Spender, respectively—become recurring characters. Despite debuting with high viewing figures and ranking as the twelfth most watched television series during the 1998–99 television year, the season saw a slight decrease in ratings from the previous one, a trend that would continue until its final year. The season received mixed to positive reviews from television critics; some critics and fans were alienated by the show, due to the different tone taken by most stand-alone episodes after the move to Los Angeles. Rather than adhering to the previous style of "monsters of the week", they were often romantic, humorous, or a combination of both.

The move to LA for Season 6 didn't slow the X-Files down at all. It's difficult to say which season is the best, in my opinion the X-files was the best show on TV in the last 30 years.

    conspiracy theory abound

In a world of cookie cutter entertainments, The X-Files was largely sui generis and continues to be one of the more distinctive entries in series television of the past couple of decades. Fans are already jonesin' for the reboot, but will at least have this massive new set to keep them knee high (or higher) in conspiracy theory until the new version begins airing in 2016. While some fans are understandably upset about the absence of the original aspect ratios for the first few seasons and/or the kind of weird decision to replace the show's iconic fonts, when taking this release as a whole, The X-Files: season 6 blu comes Highly recommended.

Great Series! One Complaint About The DVD's

If you are reading this review then you are an X Files fan. This is hands down one of the best science fiction series out there, I was sad when the series ended. I purchased all 9 seasons on DVD and very happy with the series on DVD with one complaint, the inability to watch each show consecutively. Currently, when an episode ends, I have to select the next one and click play, I don’t know what they were thinking when they created these DVD’s but they are all like this. I want to be able to click play and watch the all episodes on the DVD without being prompted click play just to watch the next episode.

    Great transfer to Blu-Ray

These new Blu-Ray releases of the X-Files seasons are a must-have for fans, due to the excellent transfer to the format, remastering them in HD quality. This makes for a striking improvement over the DVD sets, especially the earlier seasons that were not filmed in HD. Plus, all the bonus features from the DVD set carry over, and the package is much more compact and space-saving compared to the bulky, boxy packaging of the original DVD set.

    Hitting their stride

For this reviewer, Season 6 of the X-Files was probably the last season that I could truly say was unforgettable. Scully and Mulder continue to deeper their relationship as the tension rises. Familiar characters flit in and out of episodes and the "mythology" track takes a little different turn. There are plenty of light and comedic moments that further endear the protagonists to the viewer.

    The Gap Widens

The episodes that continue the alien invasion plot are still among the best. The standalone episodes are a mixed bag, some really good but a few worse than forgettable. But any show/season that includes Darren McGavin gets a 5! Blu-Ray picture quality is excellent.

The move to L.A. from Vancouver did nothing to quell the great storylines of Season 6! Coming off 'The X-Files: Fight the Future', Season 6 carries some spectacular mythology episodes, as well as classic standalone 'monster of the week' eps like 'How the Ghosts Stole Christmas' and 'Tithonus'. A great season worth having in your collection!

The 6th season of the X Files saw the show still at the top of their game before things started to slide a bit in the preceding seasons. It was no-brainer to buy the entire series at $ 9.99 per season.

This show was amazing on TV and lead the way to the shows we have now like Supernatural. I thought that being on Blu-ray the quality might degrade but it didn't. It was clear and crisp and I have enjoyed every second of the episodes and reliving the memories.

The GOAT of TV series in my opinion. Sure, like most things it tailed off in the end but that does not take away from the greatness of the first several seasons (this one included). Great upgrade over the DVDs.

I wouldn't expect anyone to buy this season without already being familiar with the show. So I'll just say the wait for X-Files on blu ray was worth it. For a show of it's age, the picture looks great!

Season 6 was arguable the last great season of the X-Files. They were just coming off of a successful movie and everything was firing on all cylinders. 14.99 for the box set was an amazing value.

A lot happens in this season that you have to hold on tight as every episode is fun to watch. This season has time warps, Area 51, and Skinner fighting for his life.
