A change in tone

The 6th Season (especially the first few episodes) had a serious change of tone that almost rendered it a different (if not altogether bad) show for quite some time.

There is a fantastic episode called "Triangle," in which Mulder is accidentally sent to the past, (during WWII). It's a very well done episode with great effects and beautiful costumes and set designs. "Dreamland" is a great two-part comedic episode, in which Mulder switches bodies with Michael McKean, who will most likely return again.... This season also includes a haunting Christmas episode, full of ghosts. BRUCE CAMPBELL even guest stars in an episode. We learn a few more things about Skinner. There's also a big revelation about the alien colonists. I know that many people may think that the X-Files left many things unexplained, but this season has a two-part episode that basically explains much of the series. And it has Agent Spender. "Arcadia" is my favorite episode of Season Six, in which Mulder and Scully pretend to be married in a seemingly perfect neighborhood. Suzanne Modeski from Season Five also makes a return. Supernatural elements of this season include ghosts, Area 51, the Bermuda Triangle, haunted houses, demon babies, sea creatures, severe deja-vu, and, of course, aliens.

First Post-Movie Season Delivers the Goods

The 6th season of The X-Files was significant for two reasons: it followed the feature film that premiered the summer of 1998 and introduced the world of alien conspiracies and government secrets to a wider audience, and it was the first to be filmed in Los Angeles (the first five seasons of the show were shot in Vancouver). The producers take advantage of the new environment (a lot more episodes take place in the desert or the southwestern US), and the show successfully builds on the events of the movie. The X-Files have been closed by the FBI, but agents Mulder and Scully still manage to find strange and supernatural events wherever they turn, as well continue to investigate the shadowy Syndicate plotting with aliens bent on an invasion of the planet. The 6th season balances episodes devoted to Monsters of the Week, the overall alien "mythology" and humor quite well, and may be the last during the show's peak. The HD upgrade the show recently got adds considerable value and if you're a long-time fan of the show or are intrigued at discovering a TV classic, you're in for a treat.
