First movie that I liked out of the X-Men saga...great acting and story.

I bought this movie on sale on Black Friday and was pleased with the price for it being the combo+digital copy. I would have purchased it at a higher price if not for budgetary restrictions so I was ecstatic to see it featured on Black Friday. As for the movie itself, this is my personal favorite entry so far in the whole of Fox's X-Men verse. I was a kid when the original trilogy was released so I do have some nostalgic connection to those, but this film still trumps those because of how unique it is as an origin story in the super-genre. The characters' struggles and personalities are allowed to be fleshed out and the weaving of real-world events with the existence of mutants is interesting. The period-piece aspect is super fun too. While Days of Future Past is also a really fun entry and I have yet to know if Apocalypse will surpass this one in terms of overall quality, First Class will probably always have a really fond spot in my heart among all of the X-Men films and I would recommend it to anyone.

The movie was very good. I was impressed by the depth of emotions the actors portrayed and the level of story they managed to squeeze in without it feeling crowded. This is a side to the characters I haven't previously been able to see and I found it quite compelling. Despite the vast amount of action and violence, the movie managed to balance it well with just enough humor. The cameos throughout the movie were a fun Easter egg for fans of the original trilogy. The movie had me wishing there were more to watch. My only complaint was with the actual stream itself. Despite being an HD rental, there were moments that the picture was blurry or grainy. Toward the end in a pivotal scene, the picture and sound kept jumping around taking me out of the action a bit. I won't take stars away because the movie itself was phenomenal, but I wish I had been able to watch it on bluray instead of the unreliable Amazon stream.

First Class is a very good xmen movie, some may say the best. I still love e first two xmen movies though they were never as big as I always thought an xmen movie should be. First class introduces us to Charles Xavier and Erik Lenscher as young men. The two actors who play them are honestly the best parts of the movie, especially Fassbender (Magneto). The story is also great, setting the movie in the 1960s which is actually when the original xmen comics were introduced. The issues I have with this film is the actual first class themselves. The original line up of xmen were cyclops, jean grey, beast, iceman, and angel. Here we only get beast and a female character nicknamed angel... Kinda lame. The other issue I have with this film is continuity. One example is how in the original xmen movie, Charles states he and Erik meet when they are teenagers. In this film they meet in their 30s. Though this isn't a big issue there are a bunch of other continuity issues. All in all the movie is pretty entertaining. It still kind of follows the mediocre fight the villain at the end comic book stuff. But what sets it apart from other comic book movies is it's setting and it's inclusion of what's going on at the time, like the Cuban missile crisis. Very cool.
